I'm looking to restrict access on some devices at certain times and I don't think it can be done simply with my current router.

You can do this, this is a snippet from the Access Control, Schedule page
The Router, providing convenient and strong internet access control function, can control the internet activities of hosts in the LAN. You can set schedule lists on this page to control the internet activities of hosts in certain time.

Schedule Description - Here displays the description of the schedule and this description is unique.
Day - Here displays the day(s) in a week.
Time - Here displays the time period in a day.
Modify - Here you can edit or delete an existing schedule.
For example: If you desire to restrict the internet activities of host with MAC address 00-11-22-33-44-AA to access www.google.com only from 18:00 to 20:00 on Saturday and Sunday, you should first follow the settings below:

Going to post on this thread as it's the most relevant thread bought back by the boards search function.

Anyway, I've been hmming and hawing about getting a dedicated media server but I remembered that this router can act as one when there's a drive connected via USB. As it is my network is seeing the router as a media device.

Has anyone hooked up a drive to the router (I know it's only USB 2.0) and used that as a media server on their network ? As well as other devices on the network seeing it as a media server, my smart tv also does.

I'll lose the nice interface of Plex on the TV that i currently run but that's only available when the laptop is up and running.

I could also just plug the drive directly into the TV but that would mean having to connect it to a machine every now and again to load it up, whereas if it's just sitting there on the network I can just drag and drop when I need to.

So what you reckon ? I have Sky and Netflix so I'm not too concerned with not being able to use the various Plex channels and Kodi plug ins etc.

I think if you buy it just for that you may be disappointed, the media server has (or did have last time I tried it a good few months ago now) a 3000 file limit and also my Samsung TV couldn't pause or rewind movies played via it (works fine when drive is connected direct to TV) so for me anyway it was useless for music due to file limitations and useless for movies due to the pause rewind issue. Maybe these issues are fixed now in more recent fw but I moved on.

I already have the router a while now, it's figuring out my approach to integrating some sort of media player into the network is where I'm at, so hook up a NAS, or a dedicated server.

Been reading this thread and the other sticky thread.

Just ran a speed test on my phone (Nexus 4) 17/17....

Keep humming and haughing over this but might just try grab a C7 and an AC thing for my PC.

I hate NOT seeing high speeds. My HTPC connected to the current router (Cisco I think) gets 230-240 which is brilliant. But main PC only getting around 50 via homeplugs

    Want more
