It would all depend on what shape you're currently in and how long you've been away from it. Either way you can't go wrong with walking for 5 or 6 minutes, then jogging for 3 or 4 minutes. As time goes on just reduce the walking and increase the jogging. I know that's pretty basic stuff but it worked for me.

You may be better going to the Athletics/Running forum.

Main advice would be to start slowly and not try and do too much too soon, but to keep at it regularly.

If your absence was health related make sure to get the all clear before you start.

The Couch-to-5K program is ideal. There are plenty of apps for it. It's 3 times a week annd it starts the first week with a brisk walk for 5 minutes, then followed by 60 seconds jogging, 90 seconds walking. Rinse and repeat for a total of 20 minutes since you began the brisk walk.

Every week it eases it up a notch but nothing drastic...but in 9 or 10 weeks you'll have improved significantly.

How to ease yourself back into it? Walking, IMO. If you can't walk at a brisk pace for 15 minutes without getting a stitch, you shouldn't run. If you can walk for an hour without slowing down, you can go for a 20 minute jog.

Thanks. I downloaded the couch to 5k app. Going to start it next week. I know I'm making excuses here. but hopefully the weather is good and not too cold.
