    Hi all,

I built a gaming PC just before Christmas with my son thanks mainly to the people on this forum who helped spec the components and then encouraged me to build it ourselves which was a great decision. We enjoyed the process and learned a lot. We had a problem with the the graphics performance but after much trial and error disabling the motherboard Intel graphics seemed to fix whatever conflict was going on and for the past three weeks the machine has been absolutely flying along. My son has been playing Skyrim and Battlefield 3 on high settings and they've been flying along with 60 FPS and the CPU staying cool etc. Until tonight when the machine suddenly froze in the middle of playing Skyrim when the screen went blue with some black shadows across it :(

I rebooted the machine a couple of times but each time the following screen comes up and hitting F8 does nothing.

    Here's the PC Build FWIW

Anyone familiar with his problem? It looks pretty serious.

    All help greatly received.

    Cheers.

Can you get into the bios?

You could try enabling Intel Graphics again, removing the GPU and connecting the monitor to the mobo instead. See if it boots without it.

Thanks Ed, I'll give that a go in the morning. Have to move stuff around to get at the back of the machine so best not to start waking people up right now. also, the last time I started messing around with the PC after midnight I ended up doing a full wipe and re-install of the OS plus set up. Wasn't cool getting to bed at 3:30am when I had to get up at 7am :o

Looks like the OS is corrupted and needs to be reinstalled. There's an issue with the boot sequence. Not a hardware issue unless the hard drive is dying and needs a new one. Nothing to do with graphics card.

    Thanks Harry,

If you don't mind, how can you tell all that from the error message? It seems so vague to me.

Also, if a re-install of the OS is required I guess that means all the programs and data on the machine are lost and will have to be replaced?

I just had a quick Google of the 00 error code. A repair instead of a full install will probably work.

Just booted up there to start the fix process and it powered up fine.

Should I leave well alone or is there something I should do to prevent this error occurring again in the future?

Is there some sort of diagnostic I can run to check for whatever problem caused the error?

    Cheers.

Hi mate I'm no expert but been messing around with computers for years and I'd actually leave it as it is mate it could run perfectly it may have been a simple OS crash. If it happens again I'd usually format the hard drive and install windows again. Anyway I like your spec just wondering where did you purchase the parts from they seem good prices

    Thanks Jay,

My instinct is also to leave it alone for now and only try to "fix" it if it happens again.

I got the parts from http://www.hardwareversand.de/articlesearch.jsp.

    The process is:-

    1. Find the parts you want on http://www.hardwareversand.de/articlesearch.jsp

    2. Look for the parts on http://geizhals.de/ - Enter the part description, you'll see options to buy it from from various places but choose hardwareversand and you'll get some discount.

Once you've chosen all your parts they deliver them to Ireland for something like €11 and bobs your uncle.

There are a lot of good guys on the forum who are experienced in specifying and building gaming PC's, if you follow this guide http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=74542374 they will help you choose the best combination of parts for your budget and also provide advice on any issues you may have during and after the build.

    Hope that helps.

    Damm damm damm,

    Machine is still playing up.

    4j3ok3.jpg

Tried all the repair and fix options but to no avail. They all failed to achieve anything or confirm any success and when asked to insert the original windows media I inserted the Win 8.1 bootable USB drive I used to install Win 8.1 but it said it didn't recognise the inserted media.

Having gone through all that I powered the machine off and on again and now it's working fine but it seems to be temporary, it froze twice today in different programs etc so I think I need to figure a way to repair the OS via a bootable USB!!

Would it be a big problem for you to just format your hard drive and install OS again? I hate doing it but the odd time that I did get faults like that the only way I could fix them was to start afresh.

Ah, it's probably just a 2-3 hour job but a pain in the ar$e to reinstall and set up everything. If that's the worst option I'll do it no problem but I would like to know what's causing the problem in the first place so I don't re-install the OS and experience the same problems again in a few weeks.

    Yhh that's true too

Can you boot to Windows install and conduct the repair from there?

    I'd test the RAM (e.g., memtest.org).
