What do you think of Stephanie Roche as a role model for women, I think she is fantastic fit, active, making a name for herself as a professional footballer. I would like to think she will make as much money from it as some of her male counterparts.

I doubt she'll make anywhere near as much money as some of the top male footballers. Women's football just isn't popular enough for that happen.

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

She has to admired, full marks to her to achieving what she did, and also raising the profile of women's football.

From the financial side I am sure that she may do quite well from the advertising angle, though I cannot see her making anything near the level of her male counterparts due to the general lack of interest in the women's game.

Well apparently it is her legs and lacey dress that matter.

Football365's take on braindead article on mail online:
    You Roche My World
We present to you some extracts from the MailOnline's story on Stephanie Roche, second in FIFA's Goal of The Year...

'When Stephanie Roche turned up at the Fifa awards ceremony as the first woman to be nominated, it was for her daring lace dress that she was noticed.'

Of course, it wasn't the goal she scored that merited first mention.

'Roche is now a forward for her country, and still finds time to keep a smart pink manicure.'

Well, that's just vital information. Why don't we find out about Sergio Aguero's moisturising routine? And when did Alex Song last paint his toenails?

'Stephanie Roche scored a stunning goal billed as 'best in world' last year. She then joined likes of Ronaldo on the shortlist for FIFA's best goal of the year. The Brazilian was then caught staring at her legs as she strode to her seat.'

Yes, that's right. So desperate was the MailOnline to tell you about the 'pink manicure' that they confused Cristiano Ronaldo with the portly Brazilian Ronaldo. That tells you all you need to know about the 'Sports Website of the Year'.

I think the level of interest shown in the OP's thread is pretty telling. Doesn't seem to be much gra for women's football about that place ...

I don't really have any interest in any football

Same here. Delighted for Stephanie, it's a great achievement but football is so boring no matter who is playing.

I meant she is a good role model because she is recognised/in the media for something that requires hard work and effort( professional sport ) as opposed to being in the media for being a 'celebrity' or because of how she looks.

I know. The usual b.s. from Mail annoyed me. She is good representative for sport she is playing. Besides it was a hell of an achievement (and a great goal) in a most popular sport in the world and most played sport in the world. She was nominated in a mixed gender category. This is like Katie Taylor competing with Klitchkov for the best k.o. Oh and I for one think football is a great sport.

I also agree with the fact that what she has achieved is fantastic.

The 'ah no, shes the next Katie' thing fills me with dismay though. There have been threads / portions of threads in TLL around the topic of why are women in sport not taken more seriously.

I think we have the answer.

Seems like a true lady. Would rather see humble women like her and Katie Taylor 'idolised' as celebrities than degenerates like Kim kardashian.
