Warhammer: Total War

Finished the Beastmen vortex campaign and honestly they've almost made them too strong, particularly if you play as Taurox. With the momentum mechanic you can do an insane amount of damage in a single turn, and being able to confed the rest of the LLs at the push of a button, give Malaghor the Sword of Khaine and he's pretty much unbeatable. Played on VH, I've never tried legendary because I like to have the option of rolling back saves but might have to try this on legendary. If anything having more enemies to fight is a benefit to Taurox. Give him some minotaurs and the heroes who buff their weapon strength and..

There are mixed reviews on three so far. I started the tutorial game but didn’t get too drawn in as I was waiting on the blood pack which is only coming with the immortal empires update (third quarter). People don’t seem to like the demons of chaos main game (just like the vortex campaign in two). It’s hard to get drawn into something when it’s really not finished.

Realms of Chaos is deeply flawed, to put it politely. I've had two major patches necessitating two restarts. On my first run, all AI factions save Cathay just gunned for me. I was Kislev. Second time was better. Third time, I actually completed the campaign.

I appreciate that Creative Assembly wanted more than just map painting. The factions themselves are great and they'll hopefully only get better with DLC and updates. The game runs much worse than Warhammer 2 for me. Hopefully, this improves.

I've completed Realms of Chaos once and sadly may not bother to do so again. It's just appalling designed at the fundamental level. CA have tweaked it via patches to improve it but they can't fix it properly when it's this broken.

Basically, there are four realms. Each realm can only be traversed via rifts which appear on the map with your faction leader and their army. The objective is to collect a Demon Prince's soul from each realm. Each realm is different and plays differently. The problem is that it takes multiple to several turns to traverse a realm culminating in a survival battle to get the soul. Khorne's realm is nice and quick so no issues there. You just fight battles until you can pass to the survival battle. With Slaanesh, you pass down levels with offerings at each level to get you to leave. There are a few battles and the survival battle at the bottom. Nurgle has high corruption and attrition but is straightforward enough, just time consuming. Tzeentch's is by far the worst. You make your way through it via nodes but you don't know the right path between each one and they're in sets of two. You can reveal some via winning battles but the AI always finds its way after five.

If any other faction gets 4 souls, you've to park your lord at the forge of souls and wait to intercept them. They are improving it this week by increasing the AI's threshold in Tzeentch's realm to 8 and allowing your leader to intercept from the campaign map.

I adore the design of the game's world and the characters, particularly the chaos factions. Just a shame about the campaign design and optimization. Hopefully both improve. I'm not too fussed about IE. I feel like the game's been partly ruined by realms of chaos. It's a real shame.

It will probably be years before it is finished entirely! Though I agree the immortal empires will be the main update. I am looking forward to it. Did the Chaos realms a few times which was alright but am just waiting on IE now.
