Running on your pill...

I was getting married at the end of last year so I did a run on on my pill.. not taking a break and doing 2 packs back to back, did it the month of the wedding & then again for the honeymoon... all grand. Went back to having my period normal.

Over Christmas I did another run on but this time, I feel just drained & I've had break-through bleeding for the last 10 days & I'm not even due my period until this weekend. Feeling crappy & moody & generally just lacking in energy... I know with the wedding/christmas it has been busy & I'm probably run down anyway but I feel this spot bleeding isnt helping the situation.

    Anyone else experienced this before??

I know we can't give medical advice but are you sure you're not pregant? A lot of thsoe symptoms are exactly like pregnancy symptoms and breakthrough bleeding can be related to implantation. I'd do a test to rule it out and then check back with your GP.

Nope definitely not pregnant - not being funny but myself & hubbie have been wrecked the last few weeks since all the wedding stuff so havent actually being doing anything since the honeymoon!! And I had a period as normal after the honeymoon.

    Jasus I hope not anyway!

Yeah running on has led to breakthroughs for me before, and being that drained is frequent pms symptom for me
Put me off trying to run on again in future since it ended up worse like

Drained would be a normal PMS for me aswell Bluewolf so thats why I'm figuring its early early PMT cause of the run on... but it just seems to be going on for a while & it really annoying me now!

I use the patch but I know when I do a run on into the next month I find it completely messes me up. It only do it if I really really have to.

On Mercilon and exactly the same. Liable to be in period mode for anything up to 2 weeks starting from the middle of the 2nd cycle if I try and run on. No point really because it's such a pain.

I used to do this all the time without any issues. I'd often run 3 packs together at a time and it was so handy.

Guess I was just lucky; I didn't realise other people had problems doing it!

I had same problems with Mercilon, but was also told by my GP that I could do with a higher hormonal dose due to my age (soon to be 37) and was put on stronger stuff that I can't remember the name of atm. So I will see if I have any spotting in future.

I had a 2 week period before, thanks to taking two pill packs back to back! So much for skipping a period!

No harm to do a test tho.

Also my doctor told me that breakthrough bleeding can be a sign that the pill isn't providing enough contraceptive cover. Probably doesn't apply in this case as it wssvdue to taking the packs back to back, but good for women to be aware of this, as I wasn't.

Thanks a mil ladies - the more I think about it the more impossible it is to be pregnant...!! Poor husband, I'm not a very good wife at the minute! lol!

And while its a symptom of first stage of pregnancy - exact same symptom is listed for skipping a period on the pill plus I'm thinking its just because I did it too much over the last few months so my body is saying it just hates me really! ;)

It depends on the Pill. I'm on Yasmin and only take two or three withdrawal bleeds per year. My sister is on Cileste and can't run on at all because of the breakthrough bleeding.

Yep when I was on microlite I'd get breakthrough bleeding if I ever ran two packs together. Wasn't worth it so I never ran two packs together again after the first couple of times I did it.

I'm going through the exact same thing at the minute and it's driving me crazy! Ran 2 packs together during my summer holiday without a bother but did it again for new year's and I'm suffering badly. ToTM isn't due for another 8 days but I've been having awful cramps and bloating since last week.

I just came off the back of running two together for Christmas - just didn't want to be dealing with it Christmas week! I've done it before for important college exams and one holiday and had no problems.

However, I also had breakthrough bleeding last Thursday, even though my period was not due until today. I felt like crap for the last week with bloating and generally low energy levels. Don't think it's a coincidence to be honest!

I'm on microlite, but I think part of the reason I suffered a bit more this time around was because I was very stressed in work in the run up to Christmas (retail! :pac: ) and I had a close bereavement Stephen's Night. I was more run down than usual and I think running the packs together just compounded all of that!

Won't stop me doing it again in the future if I think it's necessary/

    Totally!

Well it was definitely my period... am completely fed up with it now :(

Just for anyone who this might happen to aswell, I'm on Yasmin, have never had any issues with it before but I had done 2 run-ons together and then had a normal period & then did another run on - so maybe it was just too many in a short space of time!

I was reading online that some people with stressful/shift work jobs like nurses, constantly take packs back to back in order to never have their period!!

I guess I don't understand this decision. If I wanted to never have a period, I would look at getting Depo shots, since those are for that purpose. It would make me nervous about slip ups to start messing with other prescriptions beyond just a one month extension run on.

I run two packs together all the time. When I started I would get the odd bit of breakthrough bleeding at the end of the second pack but my body seems to have adjusted now. I do usually get a bit PMS-y in the last week of the 2nd pack as well but I used to get that when I just took one pack as well.

I did run three packs together once and got a good bit of breakthrough bleeding, I'm guessing because my body wasn't used to it so could be the same for you?
