You did miss a 777 and a A320 as well as all those 737s in procession though.
Bah! (South approach?) Saw the 737s. Maybe the A320 (assuming South approach) was quiter than last pair I heard 2 days ago (maybe low wind = less interesting sounds)

Royal Mail, for example, are very particular that domestic mail be carried on dedicated aircraft of a particular specification. They don't permit it to go as hold freight. Edit: for scheduling and security reasons I think.

Really? Didn't know that. Why do some BA planes have a Royal Mail logo on the fuselage then?

They have a contract for international mail carriage; less critical on schedules than domestic. BAW incorporated the RM crest as part of the overall livery, as they are entitled.

For domestic operations RM changed their aircraft specification a few years ago and put a few smaller players out of business ( or forced them to evolve, like Channel Express -> Jet2 ).

All domestics must now use dedicated* jet equipment with Cat II capability and something like 10 tonnes minimum payload, though they often go out much lighter. Only at Christmas do they relax that and contract some small turboprop operators to handle the surplus.

    * i.e. can only convey RM payload when on RM contract flight

Caught it myself passing over Kilkenny... just looked like a 747 or A340 from my vantage point, but the whine of the engines is subtly different... one for us nerds! :D

Wow they have a really bad climb rate. Its not even 20,000ft yet and its near dub.

I couldn't find info for the An-124, but the original non-M C-5 at a 'standard' TOW apparently required 35 mins to reach 25,000 ft and another eight hours ( ! ) to top-out at 38,000.

Interesting reg, N980GG, this GLEX. What does it signify?

    http://fr24.com/GLEX/57834e7

Registered to Lucky Fives LLC, with two employees in Concord MA. That just made me suspicious, so...

Some digging through the associations of a director of that company reveals that the GG stands for 'Gagosian Gallery'.
Opened in 1979 in New York by Larry Gagosian, Gagosian Gallery is one of the world's foremost modern and contemporary art galleries with nine locations worldwide

    http://www.gagosian.com/

New York, Athens, London, Paris, Rome, Hong Kong, Geneva... I can see how they can afford a GLEX!

That's the second go around today. The EI flight from AMS did the same thing. What's the weather doing?

What I noticed about the Lufthy coming in after the EI was that it wasn't granted landing clearance until it was at 450ft. An A330 had just taken off as well, maybe the A330 was taking to the runway so it forced EI693 to go around?

The nature of the go around (hard turn before the runway) reminds me of the avasive action I have seen before on avoiding a runway with a plane on it. In fairness its hardly good for the plane on the ground to have an A320 2000ft above you with full power.

Returning to Knock from Dublin after a diversion from STN this morning. Probably was fog. I can't see anything here in Clare Still.
