Could it be an AN74? I've just spotted this heading this way from Paris. It's not an aircraft seen in this neck of the woods at all.

Was on a racehorse charter, doing the vice versa of what it was here a few weeks ago, Irish horses competing in Paris this weekend.

Any ideas about this one? Asked around but haven't been able to come up with a decent suggestion!

    What is happening with them?

Flying out of Cork with them Wednesday, would rather not now.

Nothing to worry about. Did anything go wrong? No. Happens all the time with every airline. You're in good hands ;)

    @mick

Looks like a Camera link plane for cycle races and motorsport providing top cover for the motorbikes cameras and helicopters.

Edit- Was it yesterday? If so it was for the great Scottish run.

Great answer, looks like that is what it could be. It was Saturday as far as I know. Thanks for the that! :)

Fog at cork 200m with the rvrs falling to around the 400m mark currently. Could be a fun evening.

    Edit:
As requested by Growler, I will explain.

Legally, an aircraft needs to have at least 300m of an RVR (Runway Visual Range) to be permitted to make an approach. Otherwise, the aircraft will hold until either the RVR goes over 300m or they decide to divert, usually to Shannon or Dublin.

That's my understanding of it anyway.

There's been a few new members to the forum since the "Great Purge" of August will you explain to them what the above means and what requirements are needed for landing. Cheers.

RVR'S now appear nearly below limits for cork, my Aero Weather app states an RVR of 300m for RWY 17 (The runway in use today). EI847 14mins away.

Thanks for the info. It would have been nice to have seen it flying over, but it wasn't possible, unfortunately.

Been 200m now for around 2 hours, its the RVR (Runway Visual Range) that matters. Listening to atc its varing around 400-450m.

There's a C56X holding at Cork, descending now by the looks of it. City jet on approach RVR's 550m to 650m.

The CE56X made an approach then went around.

Am sure you are correct but wouldn't a helicopter be used for that type of event?

Not at FL240, which was where this was operating. That needed pressurisation among other things, which is not common on helicopters.

Not sure why they needed to be that high, unless they were relaying to a very distant base station.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

My Mam rang me from her plane; her and my Dad are off to Malaga.

She said the flight (EI584) was meant to take off at 7am but the captain said he wasn't happy with the hydraulics so they're waiting for more news.

I wonder if they'll be given another flight or be put up in a hotel?

This isn't the first time this week I've heard about Aer Lingus and their hydraulics.

Checking Flightradar24 for their flight and the status is unknown.

Probably just get an engineer to look it over before sending it on its way.

It's the end of the summer and the aircraft have been working hard so unfortunately you get tech issues. The AGP allocated aircraft is worked particularly hard. It would have only been down for a few hours from the U.S. before it heads to Spain turns around in and hour and back to Dublin where it gets a few hours and then typically heads back west doing the 109 or 139. If there are any delays along the way then things quickly go pear shaped.

I'd imagine no more or less than any other airline. The above delay highlighted by a boards user and the other 3 non events reported by this new breed of armchaired twitter following sensationalising click baiting online journalists that have forgotten what its like to get away from their keyboards, out on their feet and dig up real stories.

Online media and 24 hrs "news" coverage these days follow or try to make the news or even be the news stories themselves. And they all have Flight Radar 24 now!

    Nothing against you kub :)

    Rant over!!

Engineer's been on and off the plane.
They said they were refuelling at 10am.
    They're only refuelling now.

Is there a compensation procedure my parents can follow after their holiday?

I don't get why passengers are made to sit on a plane on the tarmac for almost 4 hours.

Why not let them disembark and at least they can entertain themselves in the airport OR perhaps check the plane's hydraulics BEFORE allowing passengers on?

I was reading the procedure on Aer Lingus' website but your link explains better.

What happens if they let them off and the problem is rectified quickly lets say in 30 minutes and the passengers are now "entertaining" themselves in a bar or the shops or in the sim (if its still there). How long does it take to round up passengers who aren't aware of an expected departure time so aren't listening for announcements while they are busy drinking or shopping etc.

4 hours sat on a plane ready to go when released, that's not that hard is it ? considering passengers regularly fly 6-8-10-12-14 hour flights everyday. Yeah it's not what you originally planned for.

I understand and yeah you're right, it wouldn't make sense to try and round up 300 passengers.
I just get the frustration of having to sit on a stationery plane for 4 hours with very little update from the captain.

Why not just highlight the airline's get out of jail clause first!
    Delays over 3 hours
If the airline can prove that the delay was caused by an extraordinary circumstance which could not have been avoided, even if all reasonable measures had been taken, no compensation is payable.

What is your reasoning for their need to be compensated?

Why do you think? For being delayed more than 4 hours?
