What cars do you look at and think they just never grow old, cars that if you stuck a 151 plate on it you wouldnt question it.

So what cars have aged well over the time??

    I'd have to go with

    Nissan Laurel C35

    nissan-laurel-c35-05.jpg

    Nissan Skyline R32 GTR

    Nissan Siliva S15

Honda S2000 still looks fresh, mk1 TT too.

Not a specific car, as such, but I find a lot of SUVs and Jeeps seem to not only hold their age, but look a lot better than their newer counterparts.

    2004 Rav4 looks like a Jeep.

2014 Rav4 looks like a Corolla that had a little too much to eat over Christmas

    Same with the Sorento

For one specific car that I think has aged well and still looks relevant on the roads, is the Mk1 Focus. Seems to be a pretty timeless design.

(all the above is just my own opinion of course).

Stick a 151 on this and 99% wouldn't know any difference.

Subaru Legacy BL5 was introduced in 2003 and still looks fresh and modern today.

@KKV, you're way off the mark on the Sorrento. New one looks very nice, old one looks...old.

Focus isn't ageing well... You're right about the RAV 4 for sure.

Mazda RX7 FD. Very few cars come so close to being timeless as this one.

I've always liked the A2, you're dead right though. Hard to believe its around since the end of 1999.

I was looking at a Z4 the other day. They've aged so much better than the Z3.

BMW e60 still looks fresh (exterior) imo

The only one that's aged well here is the A2. Everything else posted here looks old at this stage. Particularly those skylines. Something straight out of 1992.

The defender is the exception. Its barely changed at all.

For me, the BMW E46 is a classic. It never looks old or tired. Especially in the sportier models

The skyline is really showing its age badly to me, as are the focus and the civic!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

If the a2 sold more, we'd all be used to it!

It doesn't look out of place today though. I think that's the key, if the design is good enough for others to keep following - even 10/15/20 years down the road, then it'll remain ageless.

The BMWs being posted are funny. I'd have to agree that the A2 is the only one so far (IMO) that has aged the best.

I'd be interested if Audi made a new A2. Stick the XL1 tech under the hood and there's your VW group i3 killer.

It came out in 1983. That's 32 years ago. You could launch it today and it would pass as new.

17 years ago, the mk4 came out. I still think it looks well today, maybe not as up to date as the A2, but ageing better than the mk5 imo. Pity most of them have been molested with coilovers, rs6's, tinting and "booo"

I really agree re the MK4.

I think that is one of the best designed cars ever.

I don't know if you'd get away with selling it today, but I was always fascinated that the MR2 design dates back to 1989.

On a sidenote, is there any non super cars with popup lights on sale today? I remember my sister had a 323F when I was younger and I was fascinated by the lights.

Do all the facelifted ones look like that or is that a specific spec?

The facelift design has some aspects of what you see there but not all. That's the R3. All R3's are facelift models but not all facelift models are R3. You could think of R3 as M-Sport.

It does indeed. Kinda sad I didn't buy but it sold before I could sell the MPS. I test drove it around Nenagh and the looks it got were unreal!

For a car that was launched 26 years ago, I think the Opel Calibra (if there are any unmodified ones left) still looks very fresh.
