Do go safe vans have a front camera?

Coming off roundabout today, saw go safe vans. Was doing 70 in a sixty. Slowed down before I passed it. I was approaching it from the front so well under by the time I passed the back window. OK or screwed?

You would very likely be ok anyway. There is a 9kph grace on them I think. And the car spedo reading 70 is likely to be over reading by a few kph.

I'd love to see where your getting your 9kmph grace info from??

I was always of the understanding the cameras can capture traffic on either side of the road?

They can, but the cameras only operate out the back of the van.

Yeah that's what I was getting at.

The other one that goes around a lot that if you don't see it flash in the evening than you're grand!

    No front camera or radar.

Camera only for survalence at the front.

They can. for traffic approaching the rear of the van, and for traffic driving away from the rear of the van if that makes sence.

That's lies I was doing 58 in a 50 and got the fine. I thought it was 80 zone.

Perhaps you thought you were doing 58 as well. Or the fine said it

But anyway, I went through them myself 4 or 5 kph above the limit. No fines yet.

You probably went 4 or 5 kph over the limit as indicated by your speedometer. That does not necessarily mean your true speed was over the limit. Speedometers can indicate a slightly higher speed than your true speed.

I often have the sat nav on.

    My own post earlier

I doubt a go safe van indicates a driver is OK at 100 kph but issues tickets at 101 anyway.

Apparently the leeway was +6km/h i.e. You would be 'done' for 66km/h or more in a 60km/h zone. But that was halved to +3km/h over the limit given the low detection rate.

But still, to do a true 83km/h, your speedo would be showing probably close to 92km/h or so. So any leeway is really irrelevant as to be over, you know you are well over.

Might well have been reduced if there was one. When I asked the go safe van operator, he said 9km/h was given. That was 2 or 3 years ago. Seems possible there would be something.

Leeway would be relevant when you come across a van hiding just after a road speed limit reduction. Car spedeo would usually show it well over alright though.

Only checking speed... pictures are saved to a hard drive and then uploaded at the end of a shift.
Go safe are a horrible company to work for and most people leave to work somewhere else after a short time. It's an un healthy un safe job.
Most of the radars are not set up properly and this gives a false reading.

I would have thought that it's was a ok job.
I would have thought that the pay and conditions would be good.
I wonder would an employee have to be careful if he were asked what his job was, at a party or social function for example.
It can't be easy for Employees.
There could always be someone who feels hard done by, present

the money was ok but the conditions are not. no toilet and no were to wash hands. i remember we asked HR in head office what do we do if we need to pee. she said " u may go in the ditch". this from HR should of been the first eye opener.
its so un healthy u sit at home waiting to go to work then sit down all day/night in work and come home to sit/sleep. repeat repeat repeat.

the managment are very 2faced they promise all these things wen u first start during training but its all lies. im not talking about it anymore but i will answer any questions people might have about the vans or court.

@icesnowfrost, a lot of what you are saying was featured in the prime time program. Not that I agree with GoSafe, see my previous posts, but like a Reddit AMA you'd probably want to post up some back up to your claim of working for them.

listen i dont have to post anything i dont want to and im not going to justify myself. anyone who worked for them that sees my post will no i worked for go safe at some point. iv nothing to gain by pretending to have worked for them.
plus how would u want me to back it up? should i name people, because i wont be doing that. u either believe me or u dont. personally i dont care to much.
as i said before, ask me any questions about the vans and court.
    cheers.

Do van operators live in the area they operate in, where do you leave van back to after shift (not the actual address!)
    Thanks.

no not normally. some drivers have an hour or so drive to there depot to collect a van. some have a 5 min drive. all vans go back to a depot. most of the depots are in business parks but the unit wont say go safe on it for obvious reasons.

Cheers for the replies, that's a relief. Actually got nabbed 3 times in a monthon the same stretch when I originally moved to the area, it's a real soft touch spot, as you naturally accelerate coming off a roundabout, 1st points I'd got in 4 years. have 6 points as it was under the old regime, if I had been caught this time would be one off losing my licence

Alot of the sites they park at they don't even have permission to park there. I remember I was asked to move on loads of times by a land owner ie parked in front of a farm gate or a lay by that was owned by someone.

So if u no anyone who's land they are parked on ask them to tell the driver to move on and not use the site anymore. The driver will ring head office and report it then move on. They might come back some other day but if u keep asking them to move on then go safe strike that site

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 605 ✭✭✭breghall

Can the vans park anywhere they want to or are there designated areas assigned to drivers where they can only park. I was told before that they are only meant to be in 'black spot' areas, but that's not the case around my way, sometimes they are parked in areas where there have never been accidents..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,011 ✭✭✭icesnowfrost

All the areas are designated to drivers. And not all are black spot areas no. They send managers all around the country looking for spots they can fit a van in. Really as simple as that.

GoSafe vans used to regularly man a location in Drogheda, then suddenly stopped and haven't returned. Obviously the fines weren't rolling in. Can they decide themselves to do this?

They might of been asked to move on by a land owner or found a better location somewhere else. Area managers and head office make the decision to change not a driver. Drivers are emailed every week there times and locations for the following week.
