Just a reminder for all, batch of entries opens up on Sunday evening at 6pm.

Not the NC, nor the 30th anniversary this year, so numbers probably down on last year but would still expect this one to get a big entry level.

how much is entry, just so I have enough on the card for Saturday at 1pm!

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 8,766 Mod ✭✭✭✭mossym

    65 notes trig

Absolutely love this race but am disappointed with a couple of things

    1. the price :65 was ok for the 30th anniversary but to continue with that is disappointing. The rucksack we got last year personally was of no use to me as too big to bring to the swimming pool or gym as a gym bag. The jacket the year before was great. A t shirt will do me.

    2. Gripe no 2:Trying to sell out the race in January when everyone is skint

Will still sign up though under protest ;)

there is only a couple of races i'd consider worth the higher entry fees, kilkee and lost sheep. one of the local races to me charged almost 50 euros last year for a small local sprint. Ridiculous. even though i'd planned on doing it that was too much, and I'm not going to support races that try to do that.

How much is lost sheep usually??

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 8,766 Mod ✭✭✭✭mossym

think it was 80 last year. not bad for a HIM though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 388 ✭✭shansey

thats great.. i half expected around €120

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 8,766 Mod ✭✭✭✭mossym

sorry, i lied, went back and checked, it was 96

I think 50e is about right, theres not a lot of return for a club or organiser in running a race a much less than that unless there are some unusual circumstances.

Smaller races also have to plan for breakeven with their pricing as entry numbers are an unknown.

Deadline for entry transfers is 31 May. Anyone looking to move an entry on? I know a few people on the look out for entries.

    Cheers

I never thought I'd have difficulty getting rid of a HOTW slot but apparently there is nobody left on the waiting list.
Will sell my entry for €40 if anybody is still looking for an entry.

sorry, i meant Gavin was listed as being qualified for Cat1, as in had met the qualifying requirements, not that he was doing any of the SS or doing any racing at all. he's in warmer climates at the moment anyway

i hope so, had the unpleasant experience of being stung in the face a few years ago, don't fancy that happening again...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 153 ✭✭Doeshedare

Anyone know what class of jellyfish they are? I think it means the water has warmed up but then with rain forecast it might cool down again a tad which could send them back out - or is this wishful thinking?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,929 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

Eh sorry? Surely the race team is going to arrange for an inspection and trawl the swim course for jellies? Last year one of the long distance swim events coordinated with DLR coco to have the bay at seapoint trawled and cleared out - was a couple of hours work tops. it's an activity the local councils have to do regardless so makes sense to tie it in with an event.

I'm gonna get my excuses in now.

I've never worn my wetsuit before (except in the B2R pool)

I haven't sat on a bike in two weeks.

I'm pulling out before the run.

    Still, should be good craic.
