Looks let us know how you get with pixmania, an idea would be to open box while delivery guy is there and make sure no damage on telly before you sign anything.

Have been looking out for a TV for the house for some time, pulled the trigger and bought this one earlier in the week, has some good reviews on the net.

Seems to be great value and the cheapest price by far that I can find it on the net.

I;m a perma-pixmania hater, I received an empty box from DHL when a camera was supposed to be inside, opened it in front of him, he noted it was empty and I did not sign for it - Pixmania would not refund me the money I paid because they accused me of taking the camera out of the DHL box. Nasty, nasty company.

Hope you did a charge back, that's shocking. Ive bought loads from them over the years big and small and never had a problem.

I'd always go for Amazon over any online retailer though.

I have a 55UE6400, I assume it is the same, maybe an extra port or something but it is a great tv, I paid 4 figures for mine

Speakers are ok too but i have it hooked to a surround sound system for the extra power, get a surround sound or sound bar if you want to have it perfect as a cinema system.

The tv has a great picture though, and all the smart tv functionality

If i was ever to buy a tv again i would buy the biggest and best available without the smart functions saving a few quid as i have a ps4 and xbox 360 that have all all the apps

of the apps it has, netflix is good, youtube is good, internet is rubbish, 3d is a novelty at the start and then gets abandoned.

its a great buy for 700 euro though, nice looking tv too

oh forgot to say, it has the rte and tv3 player apps too which is good, but if you buy from pixmania it may have apps from another region (french etc....but these may not even work)

rte app was one of the selling points over all the other similar sized, similar resolution, similarly priced tvs so if rte player is important be careful

you can stream straight from smartphone too so use the tv as your smartphone screen, good for youtube and watching videos

Agree - the smart TV functionality is a waste. between a PS4, Sky and a server running XBMC - I have no use for its features.

Maybe so, but there is a warning on pixmania that it may not be possible to get local apps. Perhaps this tv can if as you say you did it. Just be aware of the issue though op or anyone else

Pixmania have a 4 K TV i've been after for about €250-300 cheaper than any where else but some of the stories on BOARDS.IE and elsewhere where putting me off.Funny thing is i have used them twice for cameras and have had no trouble but nothing this expensive before.Great idea with the PAYPAL as i have used them to refund money from dodgy Ebayers once or twice so that might be the way to go.

Possibly the same tv on Ibood tonight, same price

I've used Pixmania a few times, not loads but a few. Bought my current Samsung 40" off them with no problems. The only problem I had once was when I paid for faster shipping for Xmas a couple of years ago and it didn't arrive on time. They refunded the cost of the shipping without any problems. I talked to someone from Ireland too if I remember correctly, perhaps UK.

Also got a TV from pixmania with no trouble, it arrived 4 days later. Unless you're really stuck for a TV right now though I'd advise holding off for another year or two for 4k to be in full swing so you can future proof yourself. Hopefully OLED will also be going strong by then.

One thing to watch with pix is that if the Sammy is a European model it will be difficult if not impossible to get freesat on it. Only an issue if you're a cable cutter obviously.

Freesat is a UK only satellite feed, doubt any non UK model beit Continental or Irish would have onboard. I have Freesat on my TVs but they were all UK sourced, excellent interface and saves another box to connect up.

I can't see the previous Samsung but the Panasonic is a serious piece of kit.

699 for 55 inches is a great price considering the 48 inch is on sale in Currys for 679 and I got the 40 inch for 599 a few months ago.

It's a really good TV, picture quality is unreal and good sound for an LCD, review of the 40 inch here:
    http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/tx40as640b-201406183815.htm

Smart features work well too, I mainly just use YouTube and casting, the smartphone remote app is good too. Haven't got round to getting a 3D blu ray yet so no opinion there.

I've never used iBood so can't comment on them but this price in a bricks and mortar shop would be a savage bargain.

Apologies, I was tired! It is indeed a Panasonic, probably a superior screen, and I say that as the owner of 3 Samsung tvs

On many TV's you can change the country and region through a hidden menu. I did that with my Samsung HU8500. I have all the UK apps now.

You will loose RTE player etc though.

Bought my current tv from pixmania 5 years ago. Paid for next day delivery and got it the following day. TV is a European model but works great. I actually wouldn't have a hesitation ordering again from them even though all the bad reviews. Bad news makes the most noise than good news.

Did the 40 inch come with glasses? The 55 inch listed on ibood doesn't mention them.

That is actually slightly different from the freesat situation. Freesat requires a (small) license to use their branding/epg and so the continental models don't have it and you can't get it by switching country. So you are left with a normal sat experience, no 7 day epg, no logical grouping etc. If you are cable cutting it is really, really nice to have Freesat instead of normal sat.

There are some cases online of people hacking into the firmware and managing to turn Freesat on for some Sammy models but I'd say its not for the faint hearted

Paypal are very good at solving problems

I would say the opposite, PayPal are a pain in the arse and Credit Card companies are much better at resolving issues whereas PayPal being a middleman just complicate things.

I hope you have no issues with the tv, because Samsung have the worst customer service I've ever dealt with. Bought a 7 series 55" smart tv in arnotts, it developed a fault after 3 months, arnotts wouldn't even entertain me and just told me to deal with the manufacturer. It then took me over a year for them to acknowledge the problem and issue a refund. In all that time not once did they return an email or call when they said they would. To top that, you have to pay per minute to talk to them! Bought a 55 " Sony since, much better picture quality than the Samsung too.

Yes, I understand the difference between freesat and FTA Satellite, I was just pointing out that you can change the region on the TV. It's very useful as we don't get access to as many nice apps as the UK.

On my Samsung HU8500 all I needed to do to enable freesat was to change the smart hub country to the UK and enter a London postcode when setting up freesat and bingo, it all worked perfectly. :D

A TV is either Freesat or not, I think what you are getting to is that you got the Freesat up and running by putting in a London postcode during the TV Satellite setup as an ROI one would obviously not work, but this is just part of the process for everyone as all Freesat TV's need to be given a valid UK postcode. This would not be considered a hack and is in no way related to apps of any kind.
Anyhow, that Sammy looks like a nice TV, I'll wait a while longer before I step up to 4k but looking forward to it already.

In the Broadcasting menu, you are presented with 3 options for tuning. Terestrial, Cable and Satallite. If your smart hub country is set to UK, you also get a fourth option "Freesat" separate from Satellite. During the tuning process it asks for a UK postcode. I can use the Satellite tuner to tune in extra channels not included in Freesat. In my case since i chose London as my postcode, i get ITV HD as opposed to UTV HD, so I can manually add UTV HD in the Satellite section.

The advantage of using the UK as your smart hub location, is also the addition of extra apps and menu items not available in Ireland.

I think the reason for our doubt is that previous european samsung models didn't offer the freesat tuning option no matter what you did country wise in the menus. It seems that they have changed that, at least for your (high spec!) model. I would still advise anyone buying a euro model to check the forums before they assume they can get freesat.

You shouldn't have let Arnotts away with that. They should've sorted you so close to the date of sale. Should've been a straight swap with them dealing with Samsung.

Arnotts washed their hands of it straight away, very rudely too. Just gave me the number for the manufacturer and said I'll have to deal with them directly. I will NEVER buy from Arnotts again.

Guys, is there any technical reason why I shouldn't buy this for my dad.

I don't mind Pixmania, i've bought from them before and use PayPal.

It will be only used as a home TV, no gaming or anything, just the usual Bluray player, UPC etc

    thanks.

A lot of misinformation in this thread. Good tv for the money but the 6400 is a far superior model. Those that are saying they picked this up in Currys or Currys have the 48 inch at 679 are wrong, this is a 100hz refresh rate, doesn't come with 3D glasses or the smart remote. Spend a few quid extra and go for the 6400.

Didn't realise it was that much of a jump! Wouldn't personally go for the 6200 I'd rather the 486400. I'd prefer a smaller tv with higher spec than a bigger one with lower spec but that's just me.

This is a good tv for the same money

    http://www.currys.ie/Product/lg-50lb650v-smart-3d-50-led-tv/321788/6.9.2

    Satellite tuner too.

So essentially, he can ditch the soar view set top Box and just plug the satellite cable directly into the TV?

    Thanks.

He'll ditch the saor view box with any of them! It has the saor view tuner which will pick up his Irish terrestrial stations via an aerial, and if he wants he can get the English terrestrial stations (will still need a dish), by running the dish directly into the back of the tv. One remote for all the channels, no need for a box.

Though if he has UPC he won't be using the satellite tuner, unless he cancels his subscription down the line.

No, not misinformation. The discussion briefly switched to a Panasonic that was on ibood with a 1200hz rate and was a better TV than the Samsung. That's where the Currys references came in.

You're right though, the 6200 is an entry grade TV, personally I'd get a smaller better screen for the same money.
