Just spotted that TV3 are showing this movie tonight at 9PM.. It's kind of gone under the radar a bit. In case anybody doesnt know about it, Peter Coonan from Love/Hate plays David Drumm....:mad::mad::mad: .... in the lead up to the guarantee.. It's meant to be really good..

Thanks for the heads up. Think I'll record it. Can't watch TV3 live with those interminable ad breaks.

Should be good but with the impending extradition of Drumm back here it might only help him evade any charges if there's anything dodgy in it.

.. It's meant to be really good..

Really! I heard the opposite. Heard it uses a lot of tv3 footage. I know they funded it. A tv3 production being good would certainly be refreshing.

I'm tired of seeing people from Love/Hate appearing in everything. In fairness though, Peter Coonan is a brilliant actor.

Have to admit, I'm kind of rooting for TV3 at the moment. Their output has improved a lot over the last while. At least they're trying. They don't deserve to be taken down by UTV 'Ireland'.

Well it's starting now, hope it will be good...

It looks and sounds absolutely terrible. That little snigger they have at the end of the trailer ... panto stuff. I won't be watching it though so I'm going to have to rely on the folk of boards to tell me how right I was.

Who's this handsome bloke who is going to "talk to the taoiseach"?

    Edit - I see it's Brian Lenihan

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,657 ✭✭✭CountyHurler

Chris O'Donoghue on TV3, the traitor...

He has none of the mannerisms of Brian Lenihan.. I might as well be playing Lenihan meself..

Did Drumm have such a big belly in real life?! It's huge!!!

Fran should be playing Brian Cowen, how did the casting person miss that.

    .

Can't stand the way Chris O'Donghue talks - he ends all his words with a hard T.

He was your proverbial 'fat cat' i suppose you could say. Terrible mismatch of actors. Gary Lydons Clowen really being shown up for the complete buffoon we suspected he was. Lydon is a good actor to be fair to him though and is probably the nearest match to his character

Yeah, I thought they had fattened him up to more fit the stereotype.... He wasnt athletic but he wasnt that fat..

Here come the ads.. From what I remember the film is only about 73 minutes long, yet the continuity announcer at the start said that Vincent will be discussing the film after.... So I can only presume that we will be treated to 47 minutes of adverts..

    That's a bit unfair.

    Wait, what's this on 3E?

All new "Darndale: Edge of Town". Documentary about one of Ireland's most notorious estates, apparently.

    Sounds good.

I was watching with a few mins delay there so couldn't comment, but now I've caught up while the ads are on.

Did Sarkozy really say that when Biffo became Taoiseach?

"The Irish people have spoken - We have to accept that".

I missed the first few minutes but am I right in thinking that this is a better attempt at a show then Charlie on RTE?
Or is it simply that I'm more familiar with the topic?

Drumm is being portrayed as a fairly vile creature

There is a Comic Strip film called The Strike where Hollywood Executives get Al Pacino to play Arthur Scargill in a drama about the 1984 UK Miners Strike.

That made as much sense as whoever is playing Brian Lenihan in this. He looks and sounds nothing like him.

I sincerely hope David Drumm's extradition goes ahead, the sooner the better. It's hard to find any redeeming features in the guy.

The portrayal of Drumm is a bit too flash.

It's terrible Skid... At least all the others are TRYING to imitate their counterparts, but the guy playing Lenihan is far too dispassionate and forthright to be Brian Lenihan...

They based a lot of the script on the phone calls... I would say that it is slightly exaggerated, but not hugely so..

God it's kinda stomach churning looking back at it now. Just speaking about my own personal circumstances, we just had no clue how bad things would get!

David Murray as Brian Lenihan/Wilson, Gary Lydon as Brian Cowen/The Developer, Orla Fitzgerald as Kate Walsh/Hedge Fund CEO, Morgan Jones as Sean Fitzpatrick/O'Sullivan and Peter Coonan as David Drumm/The Central Banker.

What's going on? Are they all playing two different characters?

This is terrible. It would be more or less unintelligible if you hadn't followed the story closely for the last few years.
And Coonan playing two different characters! - Pythonesque. Doesn't work at all. Did they run out of money for actors?

She a fictional character. Expose did a piece on the movie today and she's basically the character that represents the every day person.

It that supposed to be a clever vehicle to explain the two-facedness of people !

The dual roles have wrecked it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 882 ✭✭✭JohnFalstaff

Having actors play multiple roles in something like this is bizarre...and confusing! What were they thinking?

I can only guess that it is a legacy of the project's origins as a stage play where doubling is fairly standard.

I'm half expecting Eva Birthistle to run in to Brian Lenihan and shout out "We've Found Amber"... "Also, is your electric razor working again?"

Gary Lydon you mean? Midlander too i think

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,741 ✭✭✭✭Ally Dick

One thing I like about this drama is that they are not going for identikit actors or accents. But the mood is right. Compared to Charlie. Actors with accurate accents and no atmosphere

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,973 ✭✭✭RayM

When you think about it, getting the same actor to play the dodgy bank boss and the man from the Central Bank is kind of clever.
