there seems to be a bunch of videos on youtube however most seem to be very shallow squats. But the idea caught my attention as something to do in the morning before going to work being a good brain dead activity for the hour.
In fitness terms would 500 full range squats target be better for engaging more muscles etc.?
Is it a stupid way to exercise either in the short term or long term in terms of knee joints wear and tear or is it no worse than cycling and the like?

So 1,000 airsquats? I did that in a day once, would probably never do it again though. Gets boring. I did sets of 100.

I agree that it would be boring. And ambitious if you haven't done it before. Wouldn't feel it until the day after but the pain would be there. Would be difficult to maintain without some inspiring music.

1000? I think that's a lot for me, but have not tried yet, I just usually go out for a walk/jog for my legs.

If you plan on doing this regularly, it sounds like a good way of picking up a repetitive strain injury.

And ending up with the worst squat form imaginable because it becomes about churning out the reps.

I've seen that challenge before and don't really get the point of it. Seems to me that you could spend that amount of time it would take you to do a 1000 squats doing a long exercise routine or weight lifting that would be far more effective use of your time. Sure it might be an accomplishment but only in so far as you can say "I did 1000 squats!....Can someone carry me to work please?":P

I don't know the specifics of the 1000 Squat Challenge, but generally, yeah, the point of a "challenge" is to do it and then be able to say to people "I did that difficult thing". You work up to it, you do it and then it's done. If you are doing it regularly, it is not a challenge.

Be careful also if you are aiming to change your body shape. Like, some people think doing hundreds of sit-ups a day will slim their waist when sometimes it can actually make you appear wider in terms of girth because you end up looking more toned.

I know, I just feel it's a waste of time.:)
