    Hi Folks

This is a bit of a complex problem so I hope someone may be able to help. My Acer laptop has a problem with the motherboard. Turns out it is a common problem for that model Laptop. Any way I tried the HD in another Laptop and Windows 7 is getting the BSOD and rebooting. I was able to use parts from an external HD to connect the Laptop HD as a removable disk on another PC (WinXP) so I didn't lose any files.

The issue is that I have Ubuntu on this Laptop as a dual boot. I can't log into Windows because the HD keeps getting the BSOD and I can't log into Ubuntu because I forgot the password. I haven't logged into Ubuntu in years and it was only to test it out. So is there a way to remove Ubuntu from the HD when it is connected to a Win XP machine as a removable disk or can Ubuntu be removed from the GRUB boot menu?

The Laptop is still in warranty but I don't want to give them any excuses to not fix it and I'm pretty sure I had a file on the Ubuntu desktop for all my various accounts. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

boot it (ubuntu) in single-user mode and you should be able to fix that up

With the drive in the other laptop try booting into safe mode. It's probably the wireless card which is causing the problem.

It's not uncommon when booting a drive from a laptop by one manufacturer in a different manufactures laptop. A missing driver causes a BSOD.

Hi gctest50, can you explain that more? How do I boot in single user mode? It doesn't seem to be an option on the GRUB menu. Thanks.
