Foods to AVOID to achieve a flat stomach?

I know what foods to add to my diet to achieve belly fat loss, but the thing is it never works, even with exercise? I know there is some foods I could cut out, but I am wondering if there is any specific foods that are bad for adding belly fat. I have tried cutting down or eliminating the usual ones, like sweets and bad fats, but it does not make much difference.

I tried googling "foods to avoid for flat tummy" but rarely anything comes up for it.

Have you any idea of your calorie intake?

I don't really keep a constant track of my calorie intake, but roughly I can say that it usually is at the 2000 mark or a bit over sometimes, even though I try to stay healthy the best I can.

Eating healthily is a huge part of it but you need to be in a calorie deficit to lose fat.

You can drop wheat and see how it works but you'll still need to be in a calorie deficit to lose fat.

You can't lose weight if you don't know how much you are eating. Either work out calories, or macros, or WW points. There's no magic food that will flatten your belly, you have to eat fewer calories that you burn.

Download the myfitnesspal app onto your phone and keep track of everything you eat and drink. You'd be suprised how the calories build up when eating certain foods.

Yes. If you're looking to lose fat and maintrain muscle, loads of veg and loads of protein is a good idea. Both are very satiating.

I honestly think gluten indirectly contributes to weight gain by making (most) people feel bloated and lethargic and thus they burn less calories. Most of the gluten containing foods also happen to be calorie dense and easy to eat in abundance. ( bread, cereals etc)

Right, I have started to try and lose a bit of a gut.
    I am 5' 11'' and weigh 14 stones 3 lbs. late 50's.
I want to get down to 12.5 stones.
I have a big appetite and nearly always feel hungry.
Since Jan 1st i have been walking 3 miles at pace and cutting down on food.

    Breakfast --

    2 Weetabix in warm milk.

    Lunch -

Brown bread sandwich -- chicken and salad or small tin of salmon and 2 slices of brown bread.

    Dinner -

Cut down to 1 big spud, chicken, pork or fish and loads of vegs.

Will this do the trick or am I wasting my time please?

I've used this and found it excellent...it takes a bit of time to build up your database but once up & running it works really well and you are right, you would be amazed at how quickly the calories add up

Depends, how different is this from your previous diet/ exercise?

If you’ve got a big appetite and always hungry, how long will you last on this diet? Will you make it to 12.5 stone? Will you be able to do it forever? It will likely take months with just walking and a small change in diet but you should aim to make a permanent change to your diet and fitness, look at the paleo diet as an option. You won’t go hungry on that and you’re more likely stick with it long term but I would recommend sticking to it religiously bar your cheat days (no sneaky spuds). If you’d rather stick with what you’re doing, don’t starve yourself, you can snack on good healthy foods, you don’t have any fruit included in the list and stick some blueberry’s on that Weetabix.

Ok so you've started since the 1st which is a week ago tomorrow, so weigh yourself tomorrow morning and see what, if any effect it's had on you. Aim for 1-2lb a week loss but don't worry if you've lost more in the first week or so, a lot of it is water weight to begin with.

You don't need to go on a paleo diet as suggested above; in all honesty, diets like these work for some in the long term, but most people can't stick to them. Weight loss is simple, calories in are less than calories out. Try to track what you're eating daily, and find out what your tdee is, then subtract ~500cals from that daily. Even then, you don't have to do as I suggested, just cut down on portion sizes and move more.

In your mealplan above, you only had 3 meals in the day; try to cut them down in size and have about 5 or 6 a day, with a big breakfast in the morning. Try porridge or oats instead of weetabix, stick with brown bread for sandwiches and brown pasta and rice for other meals.

What annoys me about this app is that when you enter your strength exercise it doesnt effect your kilojoule daily intake and therefore is not very accurate on your whole day. However if you are not interested in weights/muscle building and are just doing cardio this app is excellent!

It's pretty common knowledge that the app is pretty limited outside of tracking your food intake.

That said, you can include strength training in the Cardiovascular section though. It's entered as Strength training (weight lifting, weight training). It goves you about 100 kcals burned per 30 minutes.

The majority of people are better off ignoring trying to account for much in the way of exercise in order to increase their allowance.

Is that general estimate close to accurate?

I've never used a HRM to determine if it is or not but it depends on how hard someone works. Two people could spend an hour at the gym - one might burn 50 kcals, the other might burn 250.

But you're better off just using MFP for food tracking.

If you drive make it a rule not drive anywhere closer than 3km. if it's within 3km walk it. You'll be amazed how much weight you'll lose by just walking a lot of irish people do not walk anyhwere. I found bread is the enemy, i cut from 14st to 12st last year by not buying bread. This was accidental because i lived alone and buying bread for one person usually leads to moldy bread. so never bothered with it. but less bread was the cause of a two stone fat loss. I have a pretty bad diet by any standard but without bread I am losing weight.

All these mad tips. Run around a bucket while singing Hanson's "Mbop" 17 times and say 3 hail marys to burn 100 cals.

Lads, track your calories on MFP, go 500 under your maintenance per day, have patience and bob's your uncle. No magic tricks.

Naw brrah,if he runz too much his hefelestrontinone levels will hit rock bottom brah making him actually put on more weight. What he needs brah is to lift the heaviest weight he can find for 2 minutes in every way possible,be careful though man if you do dis for 3 minutes you will put on one stone per session brah.

Oh and always drop the weights on the floor as hard as you can to waste more energy and make everybody else jealous of how heavy you can drop n00b.
