Great to hear McGee still going strong! Hopefully he'll get the win. A good grass court season should improve his chances of getting a Wimbledon wildcard.

On a side note, the tickets for the Surbiton Trophy tournament are ridiculously cheap!! I know it's a Challenger event but I thought prices would be a bit higher. Such a gap between ATP Tour and Challenger/Futures ticket prices.

It would be the perfect time of year to host one in Ireland in the run up to Wimbledon. However I can't see it happening as neither the demand/interest nor the finances are there.

Ireland has a Futures event 20-26 July - Irish Open. According to Tennis Ireland in April, there will be 3 ITF events here as well. If they go well, we might get to host a bigger event some time. An ideal location since we're so close to England which has loads of Challenger/Futures/ITF events this summer.

While we do have futures events planned, I see quite a step up to getting a Challenger event. I look at the way Auckland has a 250 event in the run up to Melbourne as an example of how it could be done.

New Zealand is a good example. Similar population to Ireland and tennis wouldn't be one of the most popular sports.

Over at the US Open, the new roof on Arthur Ashe is set to be completed by 2016. The structure is already in place (pic below). Apparently it's been 12 years in the making! A new 8,000- seater Grandstand court will also be completed for the 2016 tournament

Also, Andy Roddick will be part of the BBC's coverage of Wimbledon this year. Great news!

Looking at the court from that angle really hit home just how poorly designed the stadium was first day ever. I mean look at all the room taken up by those silly private boxes. And then the poor people on the upper tier, they may as well be in space for all the action they can actually see. The crowds are also so spread out that the stadium has to be pretty full to get any kind of an atmosphere going. Anyway sorry for the random rant... glad it's finally going to have a roof though! :pac:

So..... the spectators this year will be sitting in the middle of a building site?

Watching the players play in hard hats would be interesting.

It's probably one of the worst designed main stadium in the Slams. Seriously no need for all those boxes and have the real fans up in the nosebleed seats. I have a horrible image in my head of something falling on court during the tournament. Hopefully everything is tied down. The incident at the FO is making me nervous of scoreboards in windy weather. Was there no way they could have finished the roof between US Opens?

Can't wait to hear Andy Roddick on BBC!!:D

Would be great if Ireland could get an ATP 250 ... such a pity there is such
little interest from the government and the media of tennis in Ireland.

Great news on Roddick, so that stadium - Arthur Ashe - will it be usable for the USO 2015?

I mean with the roof being incomplete ?

IDK. According to the US Open Facebook page, the steel structure is in place. Now they're moving onto the Grandstand stadium. What's the point in starting a new roof when the big one isn't even finished??:confused:

Makes more sense to finish Ashe for this year's tournament. And start Grandstand as soon as the tennis is finished. At least it does to me.

Well actually what they are doing does make sense, basically they had a crew in to put up the Steel structure for the roof, so now that is finished that crew moves off and another crew comes in to finish off the roof, while the crew that put up the steel structure start on the putting the steel structure in place on Grandstand. Standard practice in construction projects.

Not long until the US Open starts. Just over 2 months; hopefully Grandstand would be okay for play.

But if matches are in play in Arthur Ashe stadium, it will hinder a lot of fans views unless they reallocate the seating, which I can't imagine they'll do until project is completed.

Looking at the pictures the darker coloured steel looks like supports that were there when the roof was being built and will be taken down between now and the start of the US open. I reckon by the start of the US Open a lot of the roof will be in place with just the retractable part to completed.

Del Potro has announced he'll be undergoing yet more surgery on his wrist, he uploaded a video to his Facebook page explaining his decision. I didn't watch the whole thing, but he seems really deflated and his body language is utterly defeatist. Kinda seems like a final throw of the dice before he eventually decides to pack it in.

Agreed, seems highly unlikely. He'll be 27 in September.

Interesting to see Nadal winning the title in Stuttgart. If he can continue playing himself into from at Halle then I see no reason why he couldn't go deep at Wimbledon. Obviously winning still seems like a long shot though.

I know Nadal is considered a god by some but to be in 2 places at once is really taking the Mickey. Nadal is playing Queens this week. Be interesting to see how he does against proper opposition. Its a great line up at Queens with 14 of the top 20 players playing. Murray seeded #1 and Wawrinka is at #2 and Nadal is at #5.

Great match tomorrow between Kyrgios and Wawrinka. Hopefully Stan will be up for it, he has already said he is feeling drained after the French Open win. :(

So sad. His career is made up of what ifs.:( I really believe that he'd win more Major titles if it wasn't for the wrist injury. Love watching him play - his forehand is something else.

Such a shame about Del Po ... such promise after him winning the US 09 ..

    I obviously meant Queens :)

Kyrgios-Wawrinka should be fun. Would love to see Stan make an impact at Wimbledon too. Would it be greedy of me to hope for SF/F? :pac:

I saw him play a few years ago at Wimbledon, I was right on the front row practically on the court and he was absolutely magnificent. It's cruel the way his talent is just going to go to waste, he must be devastated by the way his career has turned out :(

On a happier note, I always forget each year how much I love watching grass court tennis. It's just special.

I hope Stan can do something at Wimbledon, wouldn't it just be incredible if he won back to back slams :pac:
I feel that a disappointing early exit is just as likely though!

Yes very greedy, he can f*ck right off with his FO win ...
Wimby is for Djokovic ... I hope ... but can only see Murray winning it to be honest ..

The way Stan is talking it is looking like an early exit from Wimbledon.
