how the champions league winners would look if Barcelona were not around

    2007/08 Man Utd
    2008/09 Man Utd
    2009/10 Inter Milan
    2010/11 Man Utd

You can make stuff look whatever way you like

Why? Would there be no other finalist to take Barcelona's place? What about all the great teams they knocked out over the years?

I was just making a point about that table, removing 10 games

what situation are we in? its not as if we don't have the players. The bench alone v west ham we had fellaini, mata, smalling, Herrera, mcnair, valdes Wilson, our starting 11 included rooney di maria falcao van persie blind januzaj, there is no reason why we shouldn't be playing good football now, its February we were told it would be 3 months before we see his philosophy in place, unless van gaal is happy with how we are playing now?

Our situation is that we're 5th with 24 games played and need to be in the Top 4 after 38.

    It's as simple as that.

Basically, since the start of November United's form has been table topping while the fans have become more and more irate.

Those tables simply illustrate that a lot of the commentary, particularly in here, has been overly negative. Not to say hysterical.

Everyone was happy enough for LVG to have his three months to get things going, when you look at his results from around three months on they are good. Obv we now dismiss this for the narrative's sake.

Again, this is mainly for the benefit of people I'm not convinced are genuine anyway, so maybe I'll just quit.

There is no room in this thread for that sort of sense-talking.

It was a poor point, because the comparison is not apt. Keane's table tells us something, your example told us nothing.

Is that not what he just said?

no he said they just need to turn the draws into wins, nothing about playing better football

They're irate with the standard of football not the results.

Turning draws into wins would be better football by default.

They're irate about everything. See if we can get a hands up on who's happy with the results since November?

    how?!

for example we win 1-0 tonight from a burnley OG in the last minute and its our only shot on goal you would be happy with that and would call it playing better football?

Results wise November and December were title winning.

Form wise though we got bit lucky. Arsenal and Southampton away spring to my.

I felt games like Southampton and Liverpool might change and give us more belief and see a confidence to play a style that would see us get results AND play well.

Would you say they have been unlucky in any games?

Leicester maybe, after that I don't think we dropped any points where you could say we deserved it Keane.

    would you disagree?

happy to have debate on this by the way.

They could have had 10 goals in the first half against Spurs off the top of my head.

By the way, nine goals conceded from game 11 to game 24.

As an alternative to drawing 0-0? Yes, obviously.

It seems to me that when you say 'better', what you actually mean is 'prettier'. I'll take an ugly win over a pretty draw any day of the week, thanks.

your missing the point, you said winning games automatically means playing better football

It's a shame United didn't play worse against Southampton, could have won it.

Ya fair enough will give you that, even if we were poor enough in 2nd half though.

2 games from 24 where we maybe deserved more, but then you have games like Stoke and Everton at home, where we needed a Young clearance off the line and De Gea being Superman too.

I don't remember the Everton game but the Stoke game United were by miles the better team for 89 minutes while Stoke had a few chances in injury time.

If that really counts as the rub of the green to win then I feel your criteria for bad luck must be stricter than criteria for good luck.

That's the upshot of keeping possession 60% of games. If you're a coach and you feel that you have a weak defence then you have to limit the amount of time and chances that the opposition have in a game.

If Jim McGuinness taught us anything it's that you get your defence right in year one while getting into the top four, then you get your transitions right in year two while strolling to the title.

Of course it does. The objective of the game is to win. If playing one way will make you draw, and playing another way will make you win, the latter is better. By definition. I can't believe this needs to be explained.

I thought you were saying they were lucky in those games as well. I don't think they've been particularly lucky or unlucky overall this year.
