Newbie question but what gear do you need for the swim,

Do you wear a tri suit under your wet suit or what way does it go for getting into your cycling gear.

Recent rules and their enforcement mean a tri suit is a must. There can be no exposed torsos in TI sanctioned races.

It does mean that you ride in what you swim in really.

So you do your swim, take off your wet suit to unveil your tri suit and away you go on the bike and run.

If your tri suit has a zip down the front can you zip it down partially or do you have to have it fully zipped up the whole time

As long as your nipples are covered knock yourself it.
