Can My Motherboard Handle My GTX 980

Ok so I have a MSI 2AE0 motherboard in my PC. And I am think of buying an EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Superclocked ACX 2.0 4GB Nvidia PCI Express Graphics Card. But my motherboard only has:

    1 x PCI Express x16 (2.0)
    1 x PCI Express Mini Card x1
    3 x PCI Express x1 (2.0)

So I was wondering whether this would bottleneck my PC not having a PCI Express 3.0 or if it would allow the GPU to run fine.

    Thanks.

It would run fine as its backwards compatible.Afaik latest gpu's barely saturate 2.0 so you should not notice any difference not having 3.0.

What processor do you have? It's pretty much guaranteed it'll be a bottleneck given that it's FM2. Better off getting a new board + Intel cpu and a GTX970 then putting a GTX980 into an FM2 machine.

Ye I'm buying a new board an ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO and Intel i7 4790k CPU and I'm going to over clock it. So my specs will be:

    Processor: Intel i7 4790k
    Motherboard: Asus Maximus VII Hero
    Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX Superclock ACX 2.0 4GB
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
