Woke at about 9 am on January 1st. Had a leisurely breakfast followed by a walk. I'll not go into detail about the coffee break but the dinner was delicious turkey.
Eldest granddaughter called that night and we had a great chat and a laugh.

2nd Jan we visited friends living in the nearest town. Watched TV that night but there wasn't much on really.

I'll come back with the rest of the review as time allows.

A whole year is a lot to review.

    I'm still alive I suppose. 3/10.

The joint worst year of my life so far.

    Had a poo.

    Stared at it.

Opened too many mindless threads on AH.

Went back to staring at the poo.

It's been a year of skyscraping highs and periods of elation, mixed with hell reaching lows and bouts of doubt, uncertainty and hopelessness

It has been a delightfully average year, just the way i like em.

Started of great, 3, 4 then 5 concerts in January. Something to look forward to. A pick me up, a high would have lasted for life.

July, they were cancelled. All down hill since then. No fun.

3rd Jan was a Friday so we did the regular weekly shop. Dunne's was very quiet. We had lunch in town and visited some of the cribs.

On 4th January it was more or less like any other Saturday. I washed the cars and then settled down in front of a lovely fire to do the crossword. Opened a new box of celebrations and had a few brandys.

    Back later with more.

2014 sucked a massive bag of dicks keeping with the tradition of all the years I've been alive and I am in no doubt that 2015 will do likewise.

Lost my job...........how careless of me,

Got a job after a lot of soul searching, decided it was the year of me so new job is 3 days a week, suits me to have more time, down side no money but no big expenses any more, when busy step up to 5 days though,

Spent 3 months in healthy programme, lost 3 stone in 4 months, still have it off..

Spending 2014 with me myself and I, and the dogs, oh and himself

just lost 11 hens to fox this week, 2 left so far, spent my summer watching them, after 4 years gonna miss them,

Folks broke up after 50 years together, my new hours gives me more time with my mum,

I am happy with my year, I spent 25 years working, had 2 jobs on occasion, commuted 4 1/2 hours a day in the end, and now it feels like a great big holiday.

I work with tourists, so love my job - the year of me,

I would highly recommend if you can, time rich but cash poor and life is good,

I finally had/have time to carry out things I have always wanted to do, like go to Ballymaloe for lunch, (a cafe lunch mind you).

I never thought I would survive loosing my job, Best thing to happen to me,

    2015
    Get fitter and be happy

+ Baby due in a few days
+ Got good job and saved lots
+ Lost job, can help girlfriend with the first hard weeks, much more time for relaxing
    + Got better at cooking
    + Got better at sex
    + Painted a picture
+ Took up the guitar again

    - Got a spot on my nose in February. Cleared up a few days later.

    + Got a Masters degree
    + Got a job

    - Mental health crap
    - Still haven't gotten fit or lost any noticeable weight. For about the fifteenth year in a row.

2014 was better than 2013 but not as good as 2012.

Overall - a big fat meh.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,985 ✭✭✭✭dgt

    +Graduated
    +Working towards a better future
+Finally cutting down on the cars and sorting my act

-Split up with mrs earlier this year
-Still not in my own place
-No immediate decent job lined up yet

The year went by fairly fast

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 237 ✭✭The Adversary

2012 was an amazing year for me. 2013 was awful, so this year has been a major improvement despite probably only being average in reality.

For 2015, like all years, I hope for it to be a slightly above average year.

    • Got engaged
    • Quit the smokes - Asthma attack left me in hospital so no better time than when my chest was in pieces
    • Had to get 3 teeth taken out of me head, one because it grew sideways so my inner cheek and gum had to be sliced open. Surgery was grand because since I was knocked out and was loopy for a few hours afterwards but was spitting blood for a few days.
    • Went to Vegas and somewhere out in the sticks in a 70's Airstream camper in NY state for 2 weeks, going to biker bars and shooting ex-police combat shotguns with loud as fúck buckshots into piles of wardrobes and tables. Coming home from that made everything look boring to myself and the GF :D
    • Our 2 dwarf hamsters died, 1 of the degus died, and 1 of thee goldfish died.

The highlights of an otherwise bland year, I'm pretty sure 2013 was too because I can't remember anything of worth from that year.............then again I can't remember what I was doing 15 minutes ago.

On 5th January I discovered daughter no. 1 was planning a surprise 70th birthday party for me. Not good!
Went to mass and met a friend home for Christmas. We arranged to meet the following week.
6th January was the day we took down the decorations. The house seemed so empty without them but we were glad to see them gone for another year.

    Back soon.

Hmm I spent last new years eve sitting on the couch, having just moved house, heavily pregnant, with my boyfriend and a new teapot.

A year later, I'm still living in the same house (a record for me - I have a habit of moving house an awful lot.) I (just about!) still have my boyfriend and baby. We have the same couch, I think we even still have that teapot knocking about somewhere. (I don't even drink tea.)

In many ways, 2014 has been a train wreck for me from start to finish. But at least I still have all the important things!

Highlights of 2014 - new baby, new (for me) car, and I didn't die. Yet.

Lowlights of 2014 - I got unwanted egg in my sandwich the other day. Who the f*ck puts egg in a cajun chicken sandwich? Oh and the rest of the year, too.

    Bring on 2015!

I really want to say that changing jobs was the highlight of 2014, but it was really the ex-wife getting re-married.......

Free at last........free at last.........oh! Lord we are free at last!!!

Crashing my bike and all that followed was the low light

    + New girlfriend
    + Amazing new apartment
    + Got promoted

    - I genuinely cannot think of one

    2014 gets a 10/10.

+ I'm still working and can pay the bills
+ kids are healthy and happy
+ planned an extension to the house

    - wife is very sick
    - extension as planned is way over budget

All in all, I'd like to invite 2014 to fuck right off and, once it's got there, to fuck off some more.

+ Doing a job I like for a company I like with people I like
    + Loving husband
+ Got to introduce said husband to extended friends and family in Germany this year
+ 4 cats to share the house with
+ Bit of cash in the bank and no current money worriies

    - Husband doesn't really like his job and its affecting his mood
    - One of our cats got diagnosed with cancer and another with a heart problem. So 2 moggies on drugs in the house now
    - My old car isn't getting any younger, so might have to fork out for a new one before too long

Other people certainly had worse years, but I certainly had better

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,294 ✭✭✭YellowFeather

Weird year. Some great stuff happened.

+New job - exactly what I've always wanted to do.
+Lots of travel, courtesy of new job.
+Met loads of new people, tonnes of new experiences, pretty much got to do stuff I had never dreamed I'd be able to in 2013.

    Some not so great.

    - A few bereavements made it a bit of a highs and lows year.

All in all though, I'm hugely grateful for the year that I've had, and I can't wait to see what 2015 brings!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,929 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

The year was all over the place. Still is...

    Positives:

Got out of 2 year long depression.
    Back in full time employment
Lost 6 stones and went from pants size 42 to 32.
Got a few friends back that I lost during last 2 years and met some cool new people
Sorted my money issue and now can even afford put away some

    negatives:

Got p45 from girl I was 10 years together with. That sucked, but thanks to that I had all the positives listed above done this year.
Started to get bold, so I just shaved my head, the good thing is that I can pull off shaved head look :).

    2014 gets a 10/10.

I will provide 2013 as a contrast. I hope someone in my 2013 position can see that there is a way out.

    2013

    + I made a new friend
+ Found a job in November

    - No job since 2012
    - Living with parents at 33
    - No money and paying debt with dole
    - No friends, as all have emigrated
    - Single, three year relationship had ended
    - Mental state not the best

2013 : 0/10. It quite literally was the worst year of my life. Interview after interview, with no job offer in sight. 2014 is like a strange alien world, to me.

So I suppose the message is hang in there, and don't give up. Things can change in the blink of an eye.

Dunno really .... fairly bland as with the last few years.

2015 however, I know for a fact that 2015 is going to suck a fat one.

    Got a raise in work.

Quit that job for a job I love, with more money.

    Quit smoking.

Went to France for my first ever 'away' rugby match.

Relationship has just gotten better and better.

Parents finally split up for good (good thing!) and get along very well as friends.

    Mental health stabilised.

    8/10

Fairly average. No crushing lows or amazing highs. Happy with that.

2015 has a long way to go to beat the awesome day in 2009 when I opened a fun size pack of Fruit Pastilles and they were all purple/black ones.

    - Lost father to cancer.
    - Lost well paid dream job to robot (me and 47 others).
    - Few friends including best friend also lost parents to cancer/heart attack.
    - Stupid car insurance went up €100 for no reason.
    - Had to move home because of job loss.

    Many more - I'm sure.

No + whatsoever. Never looked forward to see the end of a year in my life. Just been one of those years :(

Busiest year I've ever had, absolutely flat out in work, moved house, our second son was born, got loads of loose ends tied up.
More of the same in 2015 hopefully...
