though this game could do with a build up thread to get the blood pumping before friday!

Im heading down to this one, it will be my first Thomond experience :)

Leinster coming into it after being totally bossed in the reverse fixture last october, and i can see them being well pumped for it. If they can bring the same aggression the had on saturday in the rds that will be a good start.

hope we see JJ versus mads at the 10 battle.... and hopefully mads will be outside reddan.

    We're ****ed.

  • Live in hope but considering the pummeling in the first fixture and the general ordinaryness of the Leinster side/coaching/some combinations it's hard to be too optimistic. If everyone is available wouldn't mind seeing something like:

    Kearney
    Kirchner
    Fitz
    Reid
    Kearney
    Madigan
    Reddan
    Heaslip
    Jennings
    Ryan
    Toner
    Douglas
    Ross
    Cronin
    McGrath

If internationals are being rested then go knows what the team would be. And some of the above are obviously not going to happen.

Losing to Glasgow in the fashion we did was poor and I'm not happy. Need a win here for sure.

I expect a full side from Munster and then rotated selections away to Connacht and Zebre before Saracens.

    J Ryan, Casey, Archer, POC, Foley, POM, TOD, Copeland;
Murray, Keatley, Zebo, JJH, Howard, Conway, Jones

Bench: Scannell, Guinazu, Botha, Holland, Stander, Williams, Hurley, ROM

    Injured/assumed injured:
Sherry, Varley, Cronin, Kilcoyne, Cotter, D Ryan, Butler, BOM,
Sheridan, Holland, Smith, Bohane, Earls, LOD, GVDH, Murphy

Used to go every season but tbh the travel has put me off in recent years. Sat in traffic for an hour in Limerick city two years ago, nearly lost my mind. Have always enjoyed my trips to Thomond though.

Will it be that bad on the 26th?

I'm using the OLSC return bus so I can have a few beers.

    Team i'd like to see line out;
    1. Ryan
    2. Casey
    3. Botha
    4. Foley
    5. POC
    6. POM
    7. TOD
    8. Stander
    9. Murray
    10. JJ
    11. Zebo
    12. Keatley
    13. Howard
    14. Conway
    15. Jones

    Bench: 16. KOB 17. Guinazu 18. Archer 19. Holland 20. Copeland 21. Williams 22. Hurley. 23. ROM
I presume Cronin is out as there has been no mention of him so another big game for Ryan. Stander will come back in after a much needed rest so ill be expecting a big game from him, we badly need his ball carrying now that kilcoyne and Cronin are out.
I'd like to see JJ start a big game at 10 with a full strength team, but i think Foley will put him at 12 and keep Keats at 10.
The rest of the team picks itself really. It will be a tight game with both teams not playing particularly well recently but ill go Munster by 5 because of home advantage.

McCarthy didn't feature for Leinster against Connacht - he's had his break so. He'll be in the team.

Me too, I was hoping we could back to back wins over Leinster, after yesterday, I'm not so sure. The missed tackles are a huge concern. We need the same intensity as the Aviva but more accuracy and discipline.

Surely Foley at 4 with Paulie at 5

This'll be tight. Very hard to know what teams will be put out but I would expect us to both field the best we have.

So, Sunday night and we have a match thread for ..... OK. I might not stick the pace!

I think Dave O'Callaghan might feature in this game even if from the bench. Great to see him back from injury.

Yeah you could nearly bet your house Keatley will start at 10 but i'd love to see JJ there, still even if he's at 12 i'll have no complaints.
There was no mention of Stander in the squad update so hopefully he was just rested against Glasgow, he would be a big loss.

Nice to see the two DOC's on at the weekend. I felt that DOC1 was a bit off the pace.

If I was picking the team id probably go with

    McGrath Cronin Furlong
    Toner Douglas
    Conan Heaslip Jennings

    Reddan Madigan
    Reid Fitzgerald
    DK Kearney Kirchner

I would like to see the Reid Fitzgerald partnership get a run of games above all else. With Madigan and Darce and Te'o floating around that's unlikely though

Yes, I'd like that midfield. I think McCarthy will start though.

Ooh, he must be nearly there, but he hasn't been mentioned lately, so maybe 'a week too soon'.

I'd say Heaslip, Toner and Rob Kearney will be rested.

    Accordingly, Munster to win.

Yup, I think they will all be rested and so..............not good Leinster.

I'm not falling for this cute hoorism.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,540 ✭✭✭✭phog

What's this talk of Leinster resting players about? Why would they want to or need to? If they want to top the league they need to beat those above them. Munster are one point ahead of them, winning in Thomond Park would be huge for them and take some pressure off MOC. I can't see him not sending down his best team and take his chances with Ulster & Cardiff.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,784 ✭✭✭total former

I'm not falling for this cute hoorism.

Yerrah sure we've no hope, only going for the Stephens Day pints etc.

But if the above were rested, with Ruddock and McFadden missing on top of all the longer term injuries, it's hard to see Leinster winning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,599 ✭✭✭matthew8

Resting Toner and Kearney isn't a massive deal when Kirchner and McCarthy are the replacements. I'd also be happy with Furlong starting again though you'd want McGrath in. Dundon's a good pro12 player probably too good for the minutes he gets at Leinster but Leinster-Munster isn't an ordinary pro12 match and I'd like to see one of the other 2 in there. As for Heaslip I want him for the interpros, he's the sort of man you need in Thomond, if he needs a rest give him the Cardiff game off.

MOC was interviews on 98fm that's what I call sport. He said both provinces will be missing internationals who were at a training camp.podcast is on 98s website and he mentions it at the end of the interview.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

If either team is forced to rest players then this is appalling scheduling. This is one of the flagship fixtures in the league and the league isn't exactly great.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,767 ✭✭✭✭molloyjh

The internationals are in Irish camp at the moment. It was mentioned on the RTE sports award thing tonight. So there will be players rested.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,536 ✭✭✭case885

Thats pretty rubbish if the internationals are going to miss this, they should be released to play and join up again next week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,308 ✭✭✭✭.ak

There are always players rested on the Stephens day interpros. It's just far more noticeable now because the provinces are on a more level pegging.

As I said in the other thread I reckon we'll see a Leinster team of.

I don't think so, infact I think it's pretty much accepted that a lot of players will be rested here.

    Reckon we'll see:

    Bent
    Dundon
    Furlong
    McCarthy
    Douglas
    Murphy
    Jennings
    Conan
    Reddan
    Madigan
    D. Kearney
    Reid
    Fitzgerald
    Kirchner

    Strauss
    McGrath
    Hagan
    Denton
    Marshall
    Boss
    Gopperth
    Fanning

I can't see Leinster winning this one. I think munsters 2nds a bit more well gelled, Leinster have really troubled to get any constisency going with any of the team combos. Although if we play with the same sort of intensity as we did on Friday we have a good chance of getting a LBP.

That's not cute huerism, when I saw this fixture on the calendar I knew it was going to be a loss and we'd send a weak team.

It's not cute hoorism saying that you'll put out only 14 players? Yeah right :P

I assume the Ireland camp is pretty extensive, as in... I would imagine it's not just starters for Ireland who will be there, the likes of McCarthy, Reddan, Madigan, Dave Kearney, Fitzgerald will surely be there? And so, it doesn't mean that all Ireland starters will be rested.

I think Murray & POC might be rested sadly, but I think POM & Zebo might play.

Haha. Don't know how I missed that. So I suppose fanning will start and maybe Darce or McGrath to bench

I reckon there'll be a few exceptions, and nobody who didn't feature in the AIs will be called up.

Rumours abound with what players won't be allowed play due to Ireland camp, add that to our extensive injury list, and we will struggle to put a proper team out
it's getting a bit jokeshop when the biggest domestic match in Thomond is going to be an outing for our seconds

I don't know why they messed with the scheduling. This match had been in April for the last few seasons, always virtually full strength, just don't get it.

The injury situation in the Irish provinces in general this season is a bit of a worry. We could well be looking at 2nd and 3rd string guys taking the field for both teams on Friday.

actually when are the teams announced for this

MoC will announce his Team wednesday afternoon, announce a revised team Friday morning and then a different team will take the field on Friday evening.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,784 ✭✭✭total former

If either team is forced to rest players then this is appalling scheduling. This is one of the flagship fixtures in the league and the league isn't exactly great.

Don't think either team will be forced to rest anyone for this match, but the guys under player welfare will have to be rested at some stage. So you take guys like Heaslip, Kearney, Murray, O'Connell, who came off the back of the November internationals into the Heineken Cup then back into league action, they can't play all the games over the Christmas period.

So Leinster are looking at Friday's game against Munster (away) and a home game eight days later against Ulster. There will have to be serious rotation so it will be interesting to see how they approach it. My guess is that we'll really target the Ulster game and pick the team accordingly while the weaker selection will go to Limerick.

Likewise, Munster might decide it's less risky to send the second string to Connacht next week and go all out to beat Leinster.

    Should be interesting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,632 ✭✭✭ssaye2

We will give you this game Munster, we will target the Ulster home game and hopefully do well over the 6N again.

    That's the plan

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

I would go mad if Munster send a seconds team to Leinster to get a kicking.

Having 3 interpros in a row over Christmas just seems odd.

Something had to give with the Irish camp, very annoying it seems

Now this is a bummer if we can't field our best teams. It is one of the most important fixtures in the Pro12 season. How could they have messed it up? I'll be away, but would certainly have made every effort to get to Thomond for this.....and I would say a lot of Leinster supporters won't be there. Bad scheduling.....it was fine the way it was IMO.

Continue through the Limerick tunnel, in the Clare side do a u turn at Cratloe and zoom back in the Meelick Rd. Traffic is never too bad on the Clare side. I leave Ennis 45 mins before kick off and am always in my seat on time.
