Q on starting out - Saorview and Freesat

Hi I am hoping that someone here might be able to help me out in choosing my TV options. I am an ex Sky customer after over a decade so I am completely out of the loop regarding all the changes.
I think I have a Saorview TV and have tried researching all this. I had decided to go with the Humax Freesat+ Freetime 1000S Twin Tuner 1TB and great an aerial installed (thanks to reading boards). However I am unclear about a few things.

Also is this a good price for that box E257?

    1. My TV manual says it is MHEG-5 Digital & fully DVB-T Compatible (cannot find anything on MPEG 2 or 4) is this Saorview compatible or if not how can I find out - its model number Hisense LTD42V68EU but I can't find whether it is or not on the internet or manual.

    2. Assuming it is Saorview TV if I purchase the above can I record the Saorview channels on the Humax box?

    3. If I buy the box online is it just plug and play as advertised - I note the site I am looking at says to use a UK post code (its an irish site)?

    4. If I get an aerial installed then do I end up with a remote for the freesat and then use the TV one for Saorview by switching source as I currently do for netflix?

I would be grateful for any advice anyone can offer.
    Thanks

Can't find much info. on that TV, but what I can says it's MPEG2 only, so no use for Saorview.

Even if you have a Saorview TV, you won't be able to record programmes received via its tuner onto the Humax box. The Humax can only record from its own tuners.

Okay thats disappointing that it is not Saorview TV but thanks for looking at that for me. Maybe I should go for one of those combo boxes then. I just wish I could make up my mind

My suggestion would be to get the Walker WP645TS-HD, it's a fairly basic combo but has both Saorview and a freesat 7 day EPG recordable and pause etc, it is not a Humax but will get you going whilst you decide on the best set up and will make an ideal second room box once you figure things out.

Dave thanks for that it probably makes sense. I think I was getting too ambitious too soon. I will look into that box now.

Also check out the Amiko alien 2
It is a triple tuner so you plug your 2 satelite feeds from your sky dish
Put up a terrestial aerial ( or get someone to do it for you )
Plug in a usb hard drive
you can record 2 stations while watching a third
all with 1 remote control & it will work on your tv via scart or hdmi

If your not too techie you can leave it on the default spark operating system which is great if you just want to watch and record tv

Tv trade ( no connection ) have a christmas offer on at the moment with an addtional 10% off which brings the price down to around €135 with free delivery

I second this option. This is a good longterm cheap solution. Read the Amiko thread here.

To save yourself a further €10 buy the SAB receiver. It does everything the Amiko does. Both use same firmware. same remote etc...

How quick does the SAB box start up from switch on? (both cold and standby)
    And the Walker box?

Reason I'm asking, is that my current combo box takes over a minute to display a picture from a cold/warm start and would like to get a faster box.

You can order it preprogrammed for satelite stations but you will most likley need to do a scan for terrestial ( saorview ) stations no matter which you choose Spark or enigma2 as each area has its own transmitter so if you were in dublin you would most likley tune to 3rock transmitter
the Enigma software is not a big deal to put on
Champonic & PogMoThoin done a great guide here

Spark is good and rock solid if your just into watching and recording tv
    Spark thread is here

If your into messing around with skins and making the image look good
then e2 is great for that
the advantage of the dual boot is that you can start off with spark and when your more confident you can swap over to enigma and do some messing around
if you dont like it you can swap back in a few minutes
you can make backups and go right back to where you left off
    Enigma2 thread is here

Thanks for that. I am in Dublin 3. Can anyone recommend someone to install aerial where I could buy box and if I run into difficulties they would be able to troubleshoot?
