Possibly their last tour, anyone whose ever seen this group live in concert will know what an epic show they put on!

I'm going to have a problem with getting tickets though, tickets go on sale Wednesday morning coming, wife working on Wednesday morning coming, and that means I'll have to do the school run

Anyone managing to get more than they need (tickets) I keep me in mind, I'll pay you their value, same day!

    Anyone else intending on going?

    Garth Brooks wha???

School run in July? What school do your kids go to, Eton? :p

Can't see this one being as big as the last last ever tour though.

Unless I was a middle-aged person whose limited music taste ranges from AC/DC to Queen, and thinks that no music existed after 1989, I wouldn't be seen dead at an AC/DC gig.

    Your loss

Certainly doesn't match my musical taste, but whatever.

Or, you know, some people might like the opportunity to see them who haven't had the chance before.

What a load of rubbish. At least you're one less person looking for a ticket anyway. Thanks.

I went to see them in Punchestown for the first time in 2009, excellent show. Getting out of the car park afterwards was a nightmare though.

Pay no heed, for all intents and purposes musical evolution did end in 1989. Nowadays it's just like the post above yours, a rehash of the same oul pish

Not the biggest fan in the world but definitely gonna go for the craic.

I mean that stage set alone is worth it :pac:

I certainly disagree. Electronic music was far more innovative than rock music in the last 25 years.

Also, the irony of talking about musical evolution in a thread about a band who have released the exact same album for well over 30 years now.
You do know that electronic music was pioneered in the 19th century? And if your talking dance or acid house or whatever, mid to late 80s. Nothing has been done in the music world in the last twenty five years that hasn't been done before, so find another stick to beat the band with.

Coming from the mod of the Indie forum that post isn't surprising.

If a person likes music that ranges from AB/CD to Queen shouldnt that be a very very broad taste in music?

I think you misunderstand the word evolution. Pick any decade in music, there's always been musical idea that have been done before, there's always been new idea built on top of them. The 90's and 00's were no exception. For example, name an artist that sounded like Burial or Flying Lotus in 1989?

    Who?

It wouldn't surprise me to learn you don't play any instruments yourself, yet you deem yourself an authority on all things music.

It's usually people like that who post this kind of b0llox.

I never claimed anything. Do I have to be a film maker to have a critical opinion on films?

    No. Of course not.

It's just, the putting down of other music, the 'music snob' tone of your initial post.

You see it all the time with fans of music in particular.

Saw Ac/Dc in 1982 during the For those about to Rock tour and then two years later when they headlined Castle Donnington festival, it was great craic, although I wished I went to see them with Bonn Scott in 78, 79 and 1980, they were the true Ac/Dc years. When they chose Brian Johnson as the singer in 1981 I was surprised that the Nazareth singer Dan McCafferty wasn't a contender as he has a stronger voice than Johnson.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 120 ✭✭AnimalChin

The term 'music snob' is a meaningless word. People express their opinions on what they like and what they don't like all the time. Imagine what boards.ie would be like if they didn't?

So, on a thread about an AC/DC gig, you thought it would be constructive to come in an slate their fans and their music?

    Interesting.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,944 ✭✭✭✭Links234

Wouldn't be interested in seeing them myself, and at that price for tickets, they're taking the piss, but I can certainly see the appeal. Hell, I went to see Kiss when they played in the O2 and they're hardly the worlds most innovative band, I hadn't been much of a fan either, but holy crap did they put on an incredible show!

No need to diss others tastes, really.

Jaysus those croke park residents won't be happy about this... A ROCK AND/OR ROLL BAND.

I don't get them. With a lot of music I don't like sorta see how others might like it but whenever I hear anything by AC/DC I just feel like throwing up an ironic devil-horns gesture and bursting out laughing. I'm sure back in the 80s they might have sounded fresh but music has moved on a lot since then and and they just sound anachronistic. It's music from a different time and I think it's aged horribly. Given their persistent , enormous popularity there are obviously a lot of people who think otherwise, though like you say these often seem to be sort who never grew out of that teenage "music died in the 80s" phase.

The UK electronic music scene has been continuously evolving since it kicked off in the 80s. Jungle, drum,n, bass, garage, 2-step garage, grime, dubstep, that whole nebulous movement that was referred to as post-dubstep. There has been no end to the innovation in electronic music over the last 25 years, it's been in a constant state of flux. Like someone said, what artists from the 1980s or prior sounded like Burial? Or even prior to the 2000s?

It's a synthesiser and a drum machine, and those have been around for decades.

And AC/DC is guitar, bass and drums, and those have been around longer. Your point? It's not the instruments that are used, it's about the creativity of the musicians, it's the music they make with their tools that's important.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 803 ✭✭✭Rough Sleeper

So you have to completely change the modality of how music is produced in order to innovate?

That's like saying there was no innovation in art from the Renaissance period to the 20th century because they were still using paints and canvas.

Agreed 100%about Bon Scott, I was only a kid when he passed away, but started getting into the band, and his era in particular in my mid twenties.

Brian is an unreal replacement, no doubt about it, but Bon Scott is hard to beat.

Great gig in Punchestown, the Aviva would be perfect. Seeing Thunderstruck performed live is something everything should do

I first seen them in the RDS, 22nd October 1982 and have been a massive fan since.. But I'm FUCKED if I'll spent close to €100 (including Ticketmaster) for a ticket ~ no way!.

Didn't bother. Seen them 3 times before and I don't think they will top that epic Punchestown gig (where I made it into the pit!) anyway. Too expensive and too close to Christmas to afford to get tickets.

If you haven't seen them before then enjoy, they are a great live band.

I've seen them in Donnington, Sydney, Perth, Punchestown, Donnington again (won VIP tickets on 2fm) but I have a sneaky suspicion this is a final tour.

    Will be interesting to see.

Yeah I have a feeling it is the final tour alright. Would have loved to bring the son to see them but he is four and that is too young to go to a concert like this (although he does love their songs!).

Yeah, my eldest is also 4, loves their music also. And even though we've seats (took what I could get), I wouldn't want her in town so late.

That will be the gig of 2015.:D

Hehehe I can recommend Oslo for gigs, I went to see Rammstein there back in 2010 because I thought they'd never come here. Bring plenty of cash though the place is fierce expensive :)

I don't trust online any more. I was queueing in Maynooth from 7.30 this morning. My girlfriend was queueing in Roscommon, and my mam was online. My mam got none, I got none and my girlfriend was the one who managed to get the ticket for me.
