It's a lot like Bones, except it's about Richard Castle who is a writer, and Kate Beckett who is a police detective. Castle gets brought in to consult on a murder case, because someone copied one of his books for the murder. Then he ends up consulting on other cases.

    The Blacklist

have only seen the ads for it. is it not just him in a room talking to the FBI?

The sopranos is still my favorite show. You can't watch that bs love/hate after watching it. The sopranos shows you a totally different side to what a tradional mob film/TV show usually is about

First 2 or 3 episodes are, then it goes all over the world, give it the first 8 episodes from Series 1, if you don't like it after that it's not for you.

The Shield > The Wire IMO

Many here will disagree but I've watched The Shield several times now and it's still fantastic :)

Suits is also good, The Last Ship for a bit of old-school-style entertainment, and Scorpion is worth it too for the same easy-viewing reasons.

You've watched some decent ones so I'll assume you've a good enough taste in TV to enjoy the wire, the sopranos, true detective and gomorrah.

The wire isn't the usual action packed, spoonfed entertainment a lot of police and crime shows are so not everyone enjoys it because they go in expecting explosions and constant shootouts and other unrealistic hollywood sh!t. It's a real slow burning drama written and produced to be realistic and gritty and make you completely attached to the characters and their stories which is why so many people claim it to be the best show of all time, because of the sense of attachment you get with whoever your favourite characters are and feeling everything they do on screen. If it sounds like a show you'd be able to commit to and work through then definitely watch it, but hold off until the new year when the HD remaster is released. The sopranos is similar in that sense but not as much. Watch the others between then.

anyone ITT who enjoyed the wire or the sopranos needs to watch Gomorrah!!!

How bout The Killing? or even better the Danish original Forbrydelsen.

The Wire is absolutely fantastic! The first few episodes are a bit slow but then it really takes off. It's heavy watching though, you really have to pay attention. If you're looking for something shorter, I've been watching The Fall (finale is this week) and I love it :)

I thought The Killing/Forbrydelsen was very good even with the subtitles.

House of Cards is definitely worth watching.

Going back a while Rome, Band of Brothers, The Pacific and Generation Kill.

I loved the wire, absolutely brilliant show. The shield is also great tv IMO and well worth a watch. Also you could have a look at brotherhood on Netflix. It's not as well known as some of the others but I really liked it.

    Gritty Drama: The Wire

    Comedy: Always Sunny In Philadelphia

If I was told I had 2 shows to watch the rest of my life these would be the 2.

Definitely Always Sunny! It's one of the best comedies ever shown on tv, dark humour, and 9 solid seasons of greatness which are all on Netflix, there are probably 2 single episodes in the whole run that I skip.

I just came here to tell you to avoid The Blacklist like the plague, I'd like to think I've got very good taste in TV and film and that's the biggest pile of garbage I've ever been misfortunate to see, I know you said that you're not interested in Homeland but this season has been insanely good so you're really missing out.

For some light, but very enjoyable - I'll second Supernatural. Fantastic show. Great fun.

I was skeptical at first, but if you like things like The X-Files and Buffy, you'll like it I think.

    I recently watched and enjoyed
    Rookie Blue
    Power
    Gang Related
    Outlander

Can't recommend both Chicago Fire & PD highly enough

Supernatural is my favourite show. Would highly recommend it.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is hilarious too

I think the title suggests it's more limited than it is. I think it's great.

I quite like the black list. It's not perfect by any stretch and it's almost carried by James Spader but IMO it's worth a watch and not as bad as you make out.

Sherlock is brilliant OP. I'm away during the week for work at the moment and I knocked them out in a about the 5 nights.

Somebody said the good wife there, I think it deserves allot more attention then it gets. It's very solid all around with not a weak link in the cast.

Sherlock, Luther and Fargo are all worth a go. Not too many episodes in them either!

    I really enjoyed Luther.

Currrently watching The 100 which is ok. Just finished watching Love/Hate, hadn't watched any of it up to a few weeks ago.

Heard good things about Fargo. Will try Sherlock next I think. Is Elementary any good?

What is Under the Dome like?

You're right, it's not as bad as I make out, it's actually much worse than that! I know a few people that do like it, but I rate it as one of the worst popular TV shows I've ever been misfortunate to watch.

    Sherlock is fantastic.

Elementary is more of a procedural show but when it hits its heights it's a great show, Lucy Liu is far better than I would have assumed as well, worth the watch for sure!

If you're looking for something short and frankly completely off the wall, Rick and Morty is absolutely brilliant. I only heard about it a week or so back and have got through a half dozen episodes already. Premise is a genius inventor/scientist who is also an alcoholic and his dimwitted grandson going on implausible adventures, which the parents and the kids sister who they both live with are completely unaware of. It's kind of a really dark take on what Back to the Future would have been like on a day-to-day basis, but utterly insane at the same time. :D

Gotta agree with you here. The plot is so utterly ludicrous it's almost funny. I gave up after a few episodes. It does seem to be very popular though.

Six Feet Under. Rarely gets a mention these days, it was one of HBO's first really high-quality dramas.

Don't know if it was mentioned but Peaky Blinders is brilliant.Marvels agents of Shield(the first half of the season is a struggle but it's turned into my top 3 favourite tv shows at the moment.)

Didn't see The Walking Dead in your list but Z nation is so dunno what your at there.Youd want to Rectify that.
Speaking of that Rectify is another show.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,846 ✭✭✭✭somesoldiers

I started Peaky Blinders season one during the week and couldn't wait to get home to watch the next episode. Going to start s2 tonight
gonna miss the irish girl though i see she is credited with 9 episdoes on imdb so maybe not

Corp agus Anam on the TG4 player isn't bad at all.
I'm not sure if the first series is still on the player, but basically it follows an investigative journalist in the west of Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,533 ✭✭✭don ramo

Covert Affairs i think is a very underrated show, its about a spy (annie Walker) fresh out of the CIA academy, the first season or two are fairly fun to watch, its had a bit or a cool slick feeling to it, but it evolves nicely over the 5 season into a very good spy show, with great season long arcs and well constructed bad guys for Annie to take on,

like i said the first season or two are mission of the week kind of stuff, but once you hit season 3 it really gets into its stride

    This too shall pass.

Possibly not for everyone but I think Battlestar Galactica is one of the best shows ever made. I think allot of people write it off as another star trek which is very unfair.

Looses it's way towards the end but I was really on the edge of my seat for some of it.
