Yeah it's not my favourite bit either but it's part of my measured grass mile loop which is handy for doing shorter midweek runs without the watch. I suppose I could always avoid that bit by running the other side of the pitches for more or less the same distance.

I'm always wary of that stretch too, but seem to miss all the drama around here!

Well done, G on the track PBs!!! Bring on the Nats :D

    Saturday – LSR

Joined the Novices for this in the Phoenix Park. Lovely to put faces to the familiar names of Wubble Wubble and The Muppet and to meet Fitza, AceyGray, Kin9pin, PaddyDriver, The Black Oil and of course to catch up with Nop and Firedance. Hope I didn’t miss anyone :o. Probably the most sociable long run I’ve done in a long time! Park was jammers with runners, marathon fever in full swing!

    Sunday – Speed

Started the day at Junior parkrun in Albo. Thanks to Mrs KennyG for the cheerleading and well done to the KennyG juniors who did super runs! BG Jr has a love/hate relationship with parkrun but only has two left to get to the magical 20* where she gets her mits on a parkrun hoodie AND a celebratory cake.

6 hours later I was back in Albo for my session, having jogged up from home. Plan was 8 x 200m @ faster than 800m pace with 2 mins recoveries. This was tough on the grass compared to the track, but I worked hard and was happy with the paces after the fact. My 200m ended up being long so the reps ended up faster than I thought at the time. :D

    5:05, 4:54, 4:53, 5:09, 4:55, 4:49, 4:57, 5:16 min/miles

That’s the last big session done now before the Nats. Just a mini session on Tuesday and easy runs after that. Just hoping the body holds up and I can stay niggle and germ-free between now and then.
    • 5.9 miles (path, grass) incl. 8 x 200m

    TOTAL WEEKLY MILES: 28.9

*I should point out that the reward of a hoodie for doing 20 parkruns is my own attempt at bribery rather than any official parkrun incentive and the cake (which really got BG Jr motivated) was very kindly offered by Mrs. KennyG

Mrs KennyG's baking skills are definately worth the running effort :)

Nom! Can't wait. Bad reflection on my parenting though to make my child run for cake :o.

    Monday – REST

Let the taper madness commence! Quick trip to the local osteopath who tackled some nagging back pain with acupuncture and a few strategic clicks. Apparently a very tight sacro-iliac joint was the culprit and everything felt instantly better after the treatment.

    Tuesday - Speed

Last of the speedy stuff. And last of the summer it would seem . Headed to the track in Santry in the afternoon while BG Jr. was otherwise occupied. It was hot, hot, hot but with a nice breeze on the home straight. They also had the sprinklers on in the infield which made for a lovely occasional spray of cool water. Session was brief and to the point: 3 x 400m @ 1500m pace and 3 x 200m at 800m pace, all with big (2 mins) recoveries. Target times were 1:30 / 6 min/mile for the 400s and 40 secs / 5:22 min/mile for the 200s

    1:28.9, 1:26.8, 1:28.6, (5:53-5:57 min/mile)
    39.7, 38.7, 39.4, (4:59 – 5:15 min mile)

Felt good on these. I suppose I’d want to at this point seeing as I need to string an additional rep at those paces together with zero recoveries .

    Wednesday – Easy

Bailed on my Pilates class and just went for an easy run in the rain. Really enjoyed this as I was soaked to the skin within 5 seconds anyway so just embraced the conditions and imagined myself in a suburban steeplechase hurdling dogs and splashing in puddles :D. There was very little wind compared to recently and the clear air was very refreshing after all the humidity.

A hashtag ? For me ? You shouldn't have :o. Thanks all, getting very excited here and can't wait to race. Feeling good (hope I haven't jinxed that now) so will be grand once the taper madness doesn't get me.

Enjoy the nats BG. Feels like an extension to the olympics for me. And we wont have to stay up all night for the results. Give it socks.
