Well done on your pb, you really deserve it! I think we must live fairly close - was BG jr in Marino community games last weekend? A lot of your runs seem to mention roads I'm very familiar with :)

Ha ha, you wouldn't be the first neighbour I've come across on this forum. One more for the D.3 bus ?? Yes it was the community games in Marino, were you there ?

And thanks, I really fought hard for that PB so I'm delighted with it :D

    Garmin Splits (6:55, 6:59, 7:01, 7:05, 6:51 + 3 seconds to make it to the finish line)
    199th overall, 20th ? F, 5th in age group
    :)
FANTASTIC to read this! Over the moon for you! Brilliant placing and time and best of all you're on THE TABLE! I had no doubt you'd get there!

Which one will you target next? 800m would be easy for you off that 5m time!
Well done again and for putting the table back on the front page!

Thanks so much Ososlo. I'm not sure where that last mile came from but The Table was a major motivator.

I think the 800m might be possible, but I'm going to be base building with no racing over the summer so may not get the opportunity. Hoping to do a half marathon in November so if training goes well there's an outside chance of sub 100 but given my history with the longer stuff I wouldn't rate my chances :o

You're going so well lately, I can see you adding your name to the table sooner rather than later :D

You really really wanted it and were well capable of getting it so it all added up for you on the night! And rightly so!

Course you'd achieve the 800m time if you attempted it. You could do it as a TT if you just wanted to fill another box and I don't think it'd take too much out of you so shouldn't disrupt your training too much over the summer.

Me! Ha maybe hit one of them by the end of the year....it's not completely out of the bounds of possibility if things keep progressing as they are. Thanks for the faith! Positivity works wonders:D

There's an 800M in the graded meet in Tallaght next Wednesday night by the way.

Does 'graded meet' mean just for club members?
    Sorry for the hijack BG!

Yeah, I think you need to be a club member to run them.

There was a discussion on the middle distance thread about how you can "guest" for a club. Basically run as if you were a member of a different club, not sure how this works though.

Thanks Adrian, I did look at that - briefly ;) - but I've only just rejoined my club so doubt I'd have my AAI number on time. Plus they might not want me getting lapped in my new club vest on its first outing :o. I must have a look at the rest of the dates though and see if there's another 800m on again. The BHAA Trinity Track races are 1200m and 2000m. I'll see what sort of a 800m split I get during the 1200m and it might give me an idea if I'd be on for a sub 3 min.

Well done on nailing the 5 miler BG, delighted for you, sounds like a tough run but I'm sure well worth the satisfaction! Not racing will be an interesting time for you - do you think you'll resist temptation??

    Thanks Runchick!

Oddly enough I'm looking forward to a break from racing now, although I'll be sad to miss some trail races in the summer. I love XC and trail racing but find it very tough (and less enjoyable) racing for a time or chasing PBs (the pressure!!). I've never done any base building before so I'm looking forward to trying something new and see does it make a difference to my times for the longer stuff.

apart from the odd 800 as mentioned above :) I'd say you'll find the base building will make a huge difference to your longer races... great to see you planning to tackle a half... you know what comes after that of course...

    Friday

Pilates was much tougher than it should have been. Possibly due to an indulgence of the red grape variety on Thursday evening. Headed out to Malahide after for no real reason other than I felt like a scenic run and just can’t handle the wind on the promenade these days. Lovely, quiet run at a nice relaxing pace. No time to visit Avoca afterwards unfortunately.

Saturday – St. Anne’s parkrun (mission aborted)

Beautiful morning for a parkrun! Got the bus up seeing as BG Jr has first dibs on the car on Saturdays . Was there nice and early so did a lap warm up. Met Annapr and Murph_D who were volunteering and then lined up a couple of rows back. Aim was a non-Jingle Bells PB and I was hoping for around 21:15. Settled quickly enough into 4:10Km pace and felt pretty good but it was early days. Just after the first bend this* came thundering out of the bushes heading straight for me and another girl alongside me. Next thing I know my legs are gone from under me and I’ve landed on the grass verge with the wind knocked out of me. Banged my head and scraped my arm. Loads of people stopped to help and check I was ok (with the notable exception of the dog-owner) and two girls (including boards’ MrsMc) were kind enough to give up their race and bring me back to HQ. I was a big weepy mess – (morto) – and a bit shaken up but grand now. I realised two things: I am not a good patient (bordering on the belligerent if I’m honest), and parkrunners are just the best bunch of people. Also token sorting is excellent therapy. Got a lift home from Annapr while poor Murph_D had to take the bus (those sporty 2-seaters don’t ya know ;)).

*he may not have been exactly this size

After I got home and made sure I knew what year it was and who the president is I went out for a ‘recovery’ run and did a 5K loop at anger management pace (which is tempo pace as it turns out). Feeling much better now.

oh no!!!! the incident was mentioned on the parkrun thread, didn't realise it was you  hope you've recovered, the ole anger management runs are great! I would never have my dog off a lead when there are runners around (mostly cause he'd want to join in!!) so shocking behaviour from that owner, its not on...

REALLY sorry to read this BG. Main thing is you seem to be ok??

Hope you recover really quickly from the episode and can give it a good bash again next week or soon after that.

    Rest up and recovery quickly!

Thanks Ososlo. I feel fine now, I was lucky that Digby had the sense to knock me on to the grass . I didn't get to stop my Garmin though ;)

Hopefully I'll get a chance to do another 5K before my racing hiatus starts in a few weeks.

Sorry to hear BG. We got a directive to make sure to be considerate of dog walkers this morning, they should maybe also tell the owners the same thing ;).

    Anyway there'll be other weekends....

Seems like many of us were on the parkrun trail this morning!
