I work near Harristown Garage and regularly see the trainee drivers driving around near the garage.

Until recently they used to use red and white buses with big L plates all over them, however, now they seem to be using normal blue and yellow buses with no L plates and the only way to know it is a trainee driver is from the destination "Training School". You can also see a special seat for the trainer in the middle of the bus

This seems a bit dangerous as trainee drivers obviously wouldn't be as used to driving as fully qualified drivers and no warning is been given to other road users

Has anyone else noticed this recently?

All Dublin Bus Trainee Drivers under instruction, will be in appropriately marked vehicles with very apparent "L" markings

However, the current intake of new Busdrivers have to possess FULL Class D Licences and FULL Drivers CPC Certificates.

The Drivers you refer to,although new staff, are all fully licenced and are undergoing route/bus type familiarization rather than Driving Instruction.

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

These buses are used for drivers doing the vanguard course and correction instruction

Because it isnt out of service, its training, also when its driving past stops it is more recognisable for passengers waiting at stops who may think it an out of service bus.

A training bus owned by Dublin Bus is not really a normal bus to use for passengers.

When I have seen a driver going for route training in the bus it has either an inspector on it's own or have a team of inspectors to guide the driver through training of how it can handle the bus when going on their newly allocated route.

Some examples of their training buses I've seen nowadays would even have all of their seats on the top deck removed including the staircase so passengers would not be able to go upstairs in them at any given opportunity.
