Not sure if this is the right section for this but I'm having Photodynamic therapy next Friday to treat my acne. It was offered as an alternative to accutane by my dermatologist because I'm not a suitable candidate for that drug. Has anyone here had the treatment, for any reason not just to treat acne? How did you respond to it?

Was accutane the first treatment considered? or had you tried other meds in the past?

No over the last 10plus years I've been on many long courses of antibiotics. Ive tried a food exclusion diet to see if its triggered by a certain food(its not). I'm not a suitable candidate for dianette or any other form of the pill. Also, I've spend thousands on beauty treatments and over the counter products. Due to my up coming wedding my doctor suggested accutane but unfortunately I can't take it. So this PDT is what he considers the only other treatment to try.

I noticed my acne was worse in winter so at some stage I started getting 6/8 minutes sessions on sunbeds/stand-up tan twice a week. Smashed loads of vitamin D too at the time. It really helped, and at the time I had been through it all - diet changes, antibiotics, creams, pillows, you name it.

Thanks, I think that would be a case of swapping one problem with another.
