Hey I saw this done on TLL - could be interesting?!

I met my only significant gf (now ex) on a night out with friends - through mutual friends.....any other girls I've met have mostly been on nights out with drink onboard

Tinder. I know some people give it a bad rap, but it's just a modern way to get introduced. I've got a few of my friends on it and several have met their OH's on it too!

I developed an addiction to live music. And I built a social life up around organising pre gig meetups for bands and singers I liked - by picking a place near the venue - and then posting a time and stuff on the web site forums of those bands and singers.

Many of the people I have met and still call friend - including my current relationship - was through doing this.

Smoking ban has probably got more people laid and kick started more relationships than any other single piece of legislation passed in the history of law.

In a club on a night when I really didn't want to go out. My housemate at the time stretched my arm to go out and I reluctantly agreed.

Spotted her early in the night across the dance floor and thought she was stunning. Through drunkenness and general messing never went up to talk to her. Roll forward to the end of the night and collecting my coat from the cloakroom and feel a tap on my shoulder. She asks me for my number and the rest is history.

Probably owe my mate a pint come to think of it.

Nothing exciting, through mutual friends at 18. Coming up to 8 years now though, we were both still at school when we met.

I bumped into her one night outside a chippers. I knocked the food out of her hand so I offered to buy her a bag of chips which we ended up sharing. I said to her if you give me your phone number I can take you out for a proper meal sometime. So she did and a week later we were having dinner in Abrakebabra.

Did she ever get that proper meal :D

Th current Mrs Jawgap I met at a dinner-thing (the first Mrs Jawgap having been disposed of via the divorce courts some months earlier). I was sat opposite her and we spent most of the night arguing. She doesn't post on boards.ie so I can conclusively say she lost the argument and was bowled over by rhetoric! There is no truth in the rumour that I spent a few days ruminating on the argument before engineering a meeting for round #2.........

.......10 years on I've still not managed to get the last word in;)

Is dating looking for a relationship or is it just going places & doing things with people with no real intent beyond passing the time pleasantly?

I'd known her forever. I couldn't believe we ended up in the same office. Then one day at work I just knew I felt something more. While for her, well, we were just mates. Then out of the blue she asks me to this charity ball thing. And I texted her, just for a joke really "is this a date?", and she texted back "I don't know, is it?".

2010, I stayed the night at the lads house (college house) after a night out. Woke up at 2pm th next day to strange voices downstairs (lads all at work), ran down, painfully hungover.. turns out there was a new girl moving into the spare room in the house. They key to her room wouldn't work so her dad borrowed a ladder from a neighbour and me and him moved her stuff into the room via her open bedroom window. She went home wit her dad that day but when she moved up properly we had a night out as a housewarming and we kissed. She says the moment she saw me, she just knew there was something.

Asked the soldier on the main gate of McKee barracks to call me a taxi, and got chatting while waiting. Took the plunge and numbers were swapped. 15 years later, we're married with 2 kids and one on the way.

I believe in not letting an opportunity pass you by, step out of your comfort zone.

I really am enjoying meeting new people and casually spending time but mentally I feel I'm ready to be in another relationship again, despite how crap I felt for months!

Was working in a remote part of Canada where all there was to do in the evening was go to the on site gym and spend the evening on the Internet.

Was checking out some random weight loss vlogs I randomly clicked on one and it was a a vlog belong to a complete cutie. Noticed she had an irish accent and a link to her boards thread in the comments.

As I was returning back to Ireland i said I'd send her a message on boards. Starting messaging back and forward and we arranged to meet up. 3 years later we're still together :)

    So thank you boards.

Bumped into her walking along with a mutual friend from college. She was in the last 2 weeks of erasmus. Ended up heading with them for the night, we chatted the whole time.

Long story short, I moved to Spain a year a later and we're married 4 years now.

Facebook. No mutual friends - we "winked" at or "poked" each other, or whatever was the rage in virtual introductions back then, and that was about 7 years ago.

Back in February 2010, my Irish teacher at the time convinced me to do this revision course in the back arse of Connemara as it'd help me get my A. We'd chatted a few times during the week, but I wasn't attracted to her at all. Ended up talking to her for a bit longer on the last day and spent the bus journey back to dublin chatting (in English) to her. By the end of the journey, we had each other's numbers and texted a bit more. Two weeks later we went on a date (watched avatar, oh the cringe of going to the cinema on a first date) and two weeks after that I asked her out. Happily together since then with more ups than downs!
Oh and yes I got my a1 :)

    Hi Guys,
I came across this thread and had to look. I know this is a men's thread but who better to ask. :-)!
I am a separated woman, 15 months now, in my early 40's and have only had one relationship (we met in our teens..too young and I wouldn't recommend it) but I would now love to met a lovely, kind, decent attractive man. I am a very nice woman, loving and affectionate and I do have a lot to offer the right man.

I do notice I seem to get complements all the time and am told I am attractive and look younger than my age, (but that is irrelevant to me at the end of the day because I am still single) but married friends say I wont be for long but I feel I will never met anyone and I would love too. I live in a small place and it the last place to find a partner.... and I rarely go out either as I have two almost grown children and most my friends are married still, so it's hard to find people to go out with!
My ex was quiet attractive but sadly wasn't very nice towards the end and I would like to meet someone equally attractive and around my own age (not really any older), I am on 2 dating websites but find them a disaster.. any suggestions gentlemen..

I live between Louth and Meath so my question is where do I go to meet nice men with the hopes of finding a partner? It seem a impossibility but the ex was quick enough to move on! Suggestions please!

    *Mod Note*

eve38 - not looking to make you feel unwelcome here but this thread is for discussion of where people met partners, rather than where to meet partners.

To that end I'd ask other posters here not to respond as online dating discussion goes against the charter of this forum. With that said, I have put some links below and I feel you may find topics of conversation more in line with what you're looking for here:

    Personal Issues
    Relationship Issues
Online Dating group - for this you can contact one or all of the moderators of the group to look for access: knucklehead6, miamee, and Coleman Slawski - if you search for their usernames on this site you'll see them in the results.

If you have any queries, feel free to PM for clarification.
