Australia v India Test series

Test cricket is the pinnacle and all that but I dunno if they really should be playing four tests with the world cup so close, and lets be honest the recent ones have been one sided.

Hoping Kholi is captain as I think he will at least play Aaron or Yadev, Dhoni will probably leave both out as they are to expensive. Boring. :(

Dhawan has bombed so far on tour, doubtful he will last the four tests.

Hope Pujara steps up, had 2 horror tours of NZ and England, one more bad tour and the "flat track bully" accusations will get very loud.

Fancy Australia to win easily, they are just a better side than India in these conditions.

Not a bad start for the Aussies....

Just stayed up to watch the first 5 overs - Australia 45/0 with David Warner on 37no:eek:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,456 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Incredible start by him. India have managed to slow things down a bit since but run rate is still over 5.

Karn Sharma on now. Leg spinner on debut.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,206 ✭✭✭✭Rjd2

Ojha last test, 10 wickets. How filthy do they think his action is?:eek:

Aaron sadly has been cack all morning, Ishant the pick of the bowlers.

450 plus should be minimum target for Australia, road of a pitch, 2 seamers bowling silliness and leg spinner on debut on a road.

Did like the applause when Warner reached 63. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,456 ✭✭✭Gillespy

The applause Aaron's first bouncer got was good too.

Important toss and India made no use of the new ball. I would like Clarke to get a few now.

Yeah I think everyone bar Indian fans would, the way he handled the Hughes tragedy was incredible, he deserves a moment.

To be fair his record at Adelaide is amazing, so I'd be surprised if he didn't go big here.

India wasted the new ball, Ishant kept it somewhat respectable, but they need a really strong session here to get somewhat back into it.

Hopefully Aaron isn't as useless this time around, pace is great only if you know what to do with it. :o

This is going to be a long tour for India. Overhead conditions, on and off all day, Clarke carrying an injury and they still only took one wicket. Clueless. What is Fletcher doing for them?

Excited to see the Aussie attack steam in tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,206 ✭✭✭✭Rjd2

Decent start from India to be fair although despite some nice shots, always felt Dhawan wasn't going to last long.

Siddle needs to fire I reckon in this test match, Hazzlewood and a few others sniffing after hiss spot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,456 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Marsh's bowling opens the door for Hazelwood. Big fan of Siddle though and it's only right he got this test at least to show he still has it.

true, but he was dropped in the Saffer tour and did little v Pakistan, so he does need to fire this test.

Anyway well done India, good fightback, far from safe yet and crazy things can happen in Adelaide. The concern for India is the tail is abysmal, Ishant, Aaron and Shami are all number elevens. It is still possible Australia if they break the Saha/Rohit partnership quickly they could rip them out very quickly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,456 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Lyon is bowling well and could rip through the tail if Johnson doesn't do it. Bit wayward at times but came back strong at the end there.

I think it is tough to criticise Mitch, as he definitely seemed to be affected when he hit Kohli first ball, and that is perfectly understandable for obvious reasons. I didn't see the last session, but from all accounts, Saha didn't have to much fun dealing with Mitch. :pac:

Its a cliche obviously, but first session is crucial, I don't know much about the leg spinner and how he bats, although supposedly a mini Jadeja.:p

The three quick bowlers are trash with the bat, so its a great opportunity for Rohit to step up and shush the critics for a bit, a pretty forty won't be enough for him nor India, he needs to dig in go big and will probably have to do a lot of that with thee tail.

    Should be good. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,456 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Saha played Johnson well, swayed his short balls nicely. Kholi will be angry with himself for exposing Saha to the new ball like that after looking in complete control until that shot.

    Rohit?
    out after a start?

    Stunned. :pac:

On first impressions not impressed. Awful innings and lucky to get 4.

Another reason Ashwin should feel annoyed about been left out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,206 ✭✭✭✭Rjd2

Its near 2015, ffs India cop on and get DRS, Dhawan would still be their if they had.

Brisbane next for Dhawan, he is so ****ed their though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,456 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Did you hear Ravi Shastri on The Verdict during the summer talking about DRS? It's not going to happen anytime soon.

Lyon looks the main threat. I don't see India holding out.

Nope missed Shastri talking about it. I know Sachin hates it, and I think Dhoni is not much of a fan either.

Lyon had Vijay absolute plum, but wasn't given out, nearly as bad as decision.

Some will say that evens it out, but why not have 2 right decisions instead?

two wrongs don't make a right etc.

Ravi wasn't convinced, pretty much the BCCI stance on the matter. And now he's in the dressing room keeping that culture alive with the young players.

I wonder what Kholi thinks of it. :pac:

To be fair, he may have known around that time he would be in charge of the ODI side for the England series. Ravi knows who pays his bills. :P

229/2 now after tea, getting much closer than I thought

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,206 ✭✭✭✭Rjd2

India blew it simple as that.

Rohit can **** off, he can't do it when under pressure he just can't.

Saha waits so long to get a chance and he slogs away his wicket when the game was under control, utterly disgraceful.

The tail were a joke as well, Karn Sharma literally contributed nothing to this side, ****e batting and so-so bowling, Ashwin would have got them so much closer.

Story of the year for India, had chances overseas, but just can't get it done.

    4-0 a cert now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,384 ✭✭✭booth70

Not too bothered by the umpiring decisions .....they generally even out during the course of the match..... Not the reason India lost

Virat Kohli take a bow though

Know a lot of Indian captains who would blocked their way to a inevitable defeat in a similar situation

In going for the win India lost this but refreshing to see an Indian captain attack rather than defend abroad

Well played Vijay and Kohli .... Rohit and Dhawan have one more chance in Brisbane I think an the bowling still looks rubbish

    GREAT TEST MATCH

Clarke out for the rest of the series and said in his presser that he may never play again. V sad if that ends up happening

In private I bet Kohli backs the DRS but officially he won't!

As long as the current group of morons run the BCCI DRS will not be a part of Tests involving India ..... The reason is simple ..... These morons didn't support it initially for some vague reason or another and will not back track out of pure spite....

Bottom line is that India did not lose bcos of poor umpiring decisions .... They lost because their rubbish bowlers can't take 20 wickets and because home track bullies Dhawan and Rohit don't know how to bat overseas

Have to say though that Nathan Lyon was brilliant after having a poor series on the spinning pitches of the UAE

At Haddin's age he is only a stop gap captain for Australia

Who is Clarke's long term replacement ?

Watson ?..... Or is it time to blood young Steve Smith?

I'l give Dhawan a slight pass for once as his decision was disgusting. I do think he is doomed though for rest of the series.

Did you see Saha dismissal? Awful, imagine waiting so long to get a chance and you do that.

The tail been useless killed them as well, Ashwin even bloody Jadeja would have been dangerous. Karn was abysmal.

Saha's dismissal was diabolical!! ...... 15 runs of the over already and he goes and does that...... Ganguly was commentating when that happened and literally blew a fuse on air

Karn will be another consignee to the list of one test players .... Can't see him playing for India again if he can't get any purchase on a spinning track like Adelaide

Ashwin and Dhoni will come in for Karn and Saha in Brisbane but I'm afraid 4-0 beckons..... The first morning at the Gabba will be crucial in deciding how the rest of this series goes

As fifth day run chases go, that was a good effort. Happy for Kohli, everyone knew he was better than what he showed in England and the captaincy suits him. I can only imagine Saha was sent out to score quickly, he applied himself well in the 1st innings and kept very well. That situation was made for Dhoni though. India defied all odds at Lord's a few months ago so they shouldn't fear Brisbane.

Clarke out of the series is a big blow. I guess Shaun Marsh will get his place.

Kohli had runs in South Africa and NZ so nobody should have doubted his class, the tour of England been such a failure is odd, but a lot of players have bogey countries maybe England it is for him?

Saha, no sympathy, Afridi gets laughed at that for such knocks, he deserves just as much scorn and criticism.

Next up is Brisbane, Dhawan is proper ****ed their, Siddle will probably be dropped and yeah Ashwin and Dhoni back, the useless twosome Karn and Saha back carrying drinks.

It was a superb test match though, and a fitting tribute to philip Hughes.

Hopefully India remain competitive, today was amazing, nobody outside their own countries enjoy watching these route each other overseas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,456 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Kohli will need to do it in England if he wants to be considered a great player. He will get a few more tours to put it right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,206 ✭✭✭✭Rjd2

Looks certain that Smith will be captain for rest of the series according to Aussie media. It makes sense, in immense form and its doubtful Haddin will last past the Ashes if it he even makes it to that as his current form has been awful.
Smith has some experience as well, obviously not as much as Haddin but he has some in the Shield.

Warner to much of a hothead to be considered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,456 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Big call especially if Clarke misses the World Cup and the Ashes. But then I suspect they'll only give it to Smith if Clarke's future is in doubt. Good for Smith. Remember the ridicule he got when he was first selected, in the team to boost moral and bowl some leg breaks.

Haddin is a safe bet for the busy period ahead. Great competitor and experienced. He held it together well the last day with Clarke off the field.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,206 ✭✭✭✭Rjd2

I think Bailey will keep the ODI captaincy for now, lets not forget Smith has been out of that side for a while until recently.

Yeah the Smith turnaround has been truly remarkable, what is more stunning he has done so well, and he hasn't had one gimme/ average boosting series since he started:eek:

No feasting on Bangladesh for him, 3 Ashes series, trips to India, Asif and Amir in England, UAE and a South Africa tour. Clutch player indeed.

Haddin will be fine, and what will help him, Sam Whiteman and Peter Nevil the 2 lads who played the A tours last year and most likely to replace him have done nothing of note in Shield cricket this season.

Big day for India tomoro ..... A poor first day then 4-0 on for sure

Can't help but think Dhoni's return might take India back to the same defensive nonsense that is a feature of their play outside India

Will be interesting to see how Smith fares as captain

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,206 ✭✭✭✭Rjd2

I think Ashwin will play, hopefully for Karn. I like the five bowlers idea, but Karn isn't the man for this series.

Harris is out, but Hazlewood is a class replacement. Not so sure about Starc coming in, but Siddle really didn't deserve any more chances.

I hope for the sake of the series, India are at least competitive, nobody really needs to see another dull home whitewash.:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,456 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Injury is probably the only way Siddle gets another game now with so many good fast bowlers around.

Starc has loads to offer. He just needs a run in the team.

32/0. Surprised tbh, thought India would be 1 down by now.

Brilliant from VIjay and Rahane today and an almost perfect day for India

Question is can they keep it going tomoro and can their bowlers deliver?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,456 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Difficult first day for the new skipper with so many bowlers going down. It could have been worse if they went after Lyon earlier.

Vijay was excellent, deserved that 100 after Adelaide.

Asking for Rohit Sharma to deliver?

Raina is a test flop, but not sure if flat track bully Rohit offers that much more than he or even Jadeja.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,384 ✭✭✭booth70

Superb spell of bowling from Josh Hazlewood this morning

Warner off to a flyer as usual.....why Ishant Sharma continues to go around the wicket to a batsman who made 2 hundreds against a similar tactic in the last test is beyond me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,206 ✭✭✭✭Rjd2

Lucky boy Brad that Sam Whiteman and Peter Nevill got zero runs between them in this Shield and Wade is comedy with the gloves.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,456 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Give some credit to the bowler. Hell of a ball first up after drinks.

India can't allow the tail to wag. Johnson is dangerous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,206 ✭✭✭✭Rjd2

True it was a goo ball, but he needs runs, coming off total failure in South Africa and UAE.

Awesome partnership from Mitch and Smith which has won the game and nearly secured the series, India very unlikely to recover from that trashing. Mitch very likely to run riot in the second innings as well, always does well with the ball when he goes big with the bat.

You can say that again ...... India being caned by Johnson and what looked like a promising first innings lead now in danger of turning into a big deficit

Dhoni's lost the plot against the tail as usual......

How good is Steve Smith though....

I think the last 5 wickets have nearly outscored the first five. I was watching earlier and thinking Australia will probably get mid to high 300s. A good performance by India could have had Australia gone at low 300s.
