knee trouble

    Hi there,

My knee has been clicking for the past few days when I put a lot of weight on it, say going up the stairs etc.

It's not really painful but the sound actually makes me feel quite unwell so I want to get it looked at.

Should I go to the physio or the GP? I dont want to go to one to be told to go to the other and waste the fee. If I need an MRI then maybe the GP? Not sure if the physio is the way forward?

    Have ye an opinion?

Just to also say that I have had a cruciate done on that knee before but it's been moreor less fine since then (2001). Certainly no clicking since then.

    Thanks!

Unless it's painful, it probably won't be an issue. My knees were popping like bubble wrap when I was going through different movement screens with the physio and they said as much.

A GP will probably just refer you so I would be inclined to go to a physio if I really wanted to get it seen to.

I was at the physio last nite for glute issues etc but he was doing some checks and I noticed one knee clicking. I said that had never happened before and he said once there's no pain, no need to worry, Tight IT bands, quads etc can all cause a patella top click I think, (im no doctor) but without pain, give it a while it might pass.

Id Stretch out all the muscle tissue that attaches to the knee. I'd also ensure I'm getting enough oil in my diet. patella tracking could be the result of itb syndrome. Plenty of stretching could sort it out. As others have said, if it's not causing pain it should be ok.

Thanks all, really appreciate theadvice. Will see a physio just in case but I'm a lot happier now.

Knee cracking is a very common occurrence. My knees personally click any opportunity they get. I wouldn't be overly worried if it doesn't cause pain as others have mentioned.

If you are worried, go to a physio. there are simple tests that can be done to see if there are any serious problems going on in the knee.
