RTÉ has unveiled its bumper festive line-up across RTÉ One, RTÉ2 and RTÉjr - offering a huge range of programming to keep everyone entertained over the Christmas and New Year.
Viewers can look forward to comedy specials from Mrs. Brown’s Boys, Callan’s Kicks, The Savage Eye and Mario Rosenstock.
There will be explosive drama on Fair City, heart-warming specials from At Your Service To The Rescue, Una’s Dream Ticket and RTEjr’s Made with Love.
A wide variety of documentaries include Mark Pollacks’s Unbreakable, When Ryan Met Niall, Man On Bridge, The Longford Phoenix, What’s Another Year: The Life and Times of Shay Healy and Weather Beaten, a John Creedon weather special.
Plus there’ll be the annual favourites including The RTÉ Sports Awards 2014 and Christmas Carols from Kilkenny.
Big movie premières to entertain young and old across include Skyfall, Argo, Django Unchained, The Help, War Horse, Happy Feet Two, The Dark Knight Rises and Anna Karenina.
Meanwhile Kathryn Thomas and Paddy McKenna will be ringing in 2015 live on RTÉ One and the New Year will begin with a bang with Charlie, a trilogy of feature-length television dramas, based on real events, as well as the big return of The Voice of Ireland and an explosive hour-long episode of Fair City.

All in all a fairly giant crock of sh1te.

When Ryan met Niall? Jesus, its kinda creepy when Tubs latches onto some pop culture phenomena and bleeds it dry. I take it Niall Horan has replaced Saoirse Ronan's photo on his mantlepiece

Due to the actual quality of the programming, this reads like a Waterford Whispers article.

I've highlighted what appeals to me there. Safe to say I'll be sticking with TG4 for New Year anyway. Jebus H! Kathryn Thomas & Paddy McKenna!!!! I'm so glad reading this that I chucked a TV service a while back. I've seen tthe majority of the movies before but they're good enough that I'll hapilly watch along with the family.

Why is Tubs interviewing Nial Horan? Seeing as it's a fluff piece, why not send that Sinead girl from Cork from RTEjr who used to be in Six? She actually has personality and would do a good job I'd think. Sending Tubs is a bit silly IMHO.

The only thing exploding will be the TV when I put my foot through it..

The bar really isnt set that high from previous years..

And I'd doubt Liz O'Kane will come out of hiding for the show..

It seemed during those segments for the Late Late Show that Niall Horan couldnt stand the tomfoolery he was going on with... Tomfoolery being a word that the man himself would use...

Christ. The thing I find baffling is they still seem to have little to no interest in improving the quality of what they produce. You'd think they'd want to get people onboard paying for a TV licence.

They've had a whole year to plan for this month. And this is what's coming?!

Being a bit hard on RTÉ there I think. They do have the Mrs Brown's Boys Christmas Special. That's a cow good for the milking.

BBC have that as well though, and probably first airing as well! :)

i read something about this yesterday and saw that katherine lynch has a show over Christmas. had to search again, so apologies about the state of this site
    http://www.goss.ie/2014/12/revealed-the-ten-best-shows-on-rte-over-the-christmas-period/

seriously though, who does she have photos in an embarrassing situation of?
how does she still get a gig on tv??

Thankfully the days of only having 2 channels are over. Disgraceful that we have to pay a licence fee for crap like that.

Jesus. They should have just gone for a pre-recorded Imelda May Hootenanny rip-off, complete with fake countdown and everybody pretending it's not November. Invite Jools along too maybe, just for the hilarity of watching him pretend it's New Year's Eve on two channels at the same time.

Oh yeah! That's my argument over. I love the Christmas ads though. They are the best part about Christmas TV.

Just noticed they do have a Republic of Telly special. That is good.

Christmas tv was always rubbish. No change this year. RTÉ One on Christmas Day is pretty dismal.

    13.45 Stardust
15.45 Raiders of the Lost Ark
    18.15 Christmas Carols
    19.20 Kitchen Hero
    19.50 Fair City
    20.20 News
    20.30 TBA

Die Hard was every bit a part of Christmas as midnight mass, I can't believe they bought it up

No Westlife, Boyzone or Daniel O'Donal special? Aw, suppose they can repeat the dozen or so they've already shown.

RTE is good for films at Xmas I think, that's about it. The New Years show is shocking and messes up the countdown nearly every year (the only bit many people watch).

The festive schedule look worse than RTE's normal schedule.

Not inspiring, just like RTÉ for Christmas Day

    15.00 Brendan Grace
    16.15 Spiderman 3
    19.00 Emmerdale
    20.00 Coronation Street
    21.00 Forrest Gump
    23.50 Cliffhanger

TV3 never bothered with Xmas. They make a lot of their advertising revenue in the lead up to Xmas, so don't see the point in showing anything worthwhile on Xmas Day.

Surely with Christmas carols at 18:15 that schedule is Christmas Eve rather than Christmas Day?

Donal Skehan. Who wants to see him at all, let alone on Christmas.
He's doing anything he can to get on TV, and RTE are helping him.

    Failed popstar.
    Failed Eurovision act.
    Failed presenter.
    Now cookery programmes.

    Give me a break.

The movies in the OP look decent, beyond them nothing blows my skirt up at all. I think the success of the scheduling comes down to the other random movies on over the whole week, so I will wait till the RTE guide comes out before being too disappointed.
