From UPC live chat, just moments ago:

How do I join for the €1 offer?
    http://www.upc.ie/television/premium/SS/

What do I need to do if I need to cancel before the usual price kicks in?
You can just ring our customer care team on freephone 1908 and there would be a once off €10 downgrade fee when you remove them.

So, yes, you'll get the offer alright- but you will pay a tenner if you wish to quit it before the normal price in January.
I believe that this is the case with Sky and others as well. Just be aware of it. €11 isn't bad, all the same.

100% can't get it if availed of it before

You have previously activated this once-off offer.
If you have any queries, please contact us.

    Boo!

I don't think Sky charge the €10 downgrade fee just UPC

For UPC customers, keep an eye out for the following:

"Please note: The €1 offer will start on your next bill date. You will pay the non-promotional rate between now and then."

"Setanta Plus - €1 for one month
Customers who have signed up for the Setanta Plus €1 offer will have the offer applied to their account from their next bill date. Full non-promotional monthly rate will apply from the date the customer orders Setanta Plus until the next bill date. Offer can only be applied to customers that currently do not have a Setanta Sports product or promotion on their UPC subscription. Offer applies from December 1st 2014. Offer ends January 4th 2015. Offer will apply for one billing month. A €10 downgrade administration fee will be applied anytime you downgrade any element of your service. If you cancel Setanta Sports after the one month promotional discount period, your credit will be calculated on a pro-rata basis, based on the discounted rate of the premium service."

Personally, my next bill doesn't arrive until December 20th. It sounds like I'd be paying full wack for most of this month, and the promotional rate would then run from Dec 21 - Jan 21st.

I asked about it in the webchat and was told "you'll only be charged €1 for month of December", but to be honest everything in the T&Cs indicates otherwise.

It would be easy to be caught out.

It'll work itself out over 2 billing periods.
But to sign up to this deal on UPC, and then cancel before 4/01/15...it will cost €1 + €10 downgrade UPC fee.
    So nothing to see here

    For Sky..

What details are they using to check if it is a duplicate ?

I used my first initial and surname, spelled the address a little differently and used a secondary phone number and email and it seems to have worked OK. I got it last year too.

Depends on what details you use. Have a try with slightly different info.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 473 ✭✭magicmoves

I have sky and if I will cancel the contract after a month will I be charged 10 euros?
Also to cancel the account do I just ring up Sky? Do I need to give a notice period?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,474 ✭✭✭deadybai

Is there a 10euro cancellation fee with if you get this deal with Sky?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,487 ✭✭✭Mountjoy Mugger

You don't deal with Sky. You deal directly with Setanta, and no, there's no cancellation fee.

After spreading the word with my mates, the first question one fella asked is "how much is it to ring them?" There's always one, getting a months sports for a Euro & tries to skimp on a few cent of a phonecall.

Sky writer over their offices would seem the simplest method

Can you get this deal on UPC if you don't have a satelitte dish?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 144 ✭✭Conchy

Please note: The €1 offer will start on your next bill date. You will pay the non-promotional rate between now and then

So I have to pay the normal charge untill my next bill ?

  • Site Banned Posts: 880 ✭✭✭whiteshorts

€3.99 for 2 boxes for month of December, can't be bad :)
Now just have to remember to put the reminder in the phone for cancellation before 31st December.
€21.99 + €2.99 for extra box a month after would be a bit steep though.

second viewing card number Is the key I'd say

Exactly my point earlier in the thread Conchy. Personally my next bill is 20 December, so I may get 30 days at €1, but those 30 days would be 20 Dec to 20 Jan, and everything between now and 20th Dec will be charged at full price.

Yes, they wouldn't keep the credit card details.

I am with sky at the moment and have not availed of this before
Could someone in the know tell me if I sign up to this tonight and cancel before midnight 31st Dec will I only be charged 1 euro or will it be pay the full rate up untill my bill date 21st dec and then 1 euro for the rest of month.
    Very confused I am

    Aah nuts....

    Not working for me.
It acknowledges that I've activated the offering before.

All different details of course, I guess they are wise to the viewing card number.

If we got this offer last year we can't get it this year is it? Even if we are not an existing customer? I cancelled months ago.

I did it last year and only paid €1 for the month of December. When I rang to cancel at the end of December, I was offered and took a three month deal at 9.99 per month, and this was followed by two months at 12.99, after which I cancelled. So I never paid the full rate. So by my reckoning, there is no reason for you to be charged the full rate at all on this deal....I think that is only happening with UPC customers.

And now I'm on the €99 for twelve months.

Signed up few minutes ago and the channels unscrambled simultaneously.
Email confirmed that the fee is zero and connection fee was 1 euro.
Thanks for heads up folks. This is a great bargain alert
