Just had a look around at reviews and the general opinion is that it's a very well featured Chromebook but the main disadvantages are the high price ($300 RRP) and only having 2GB of RAM.

However, this version actually has 4GB and is €190!

    Seriously tempting.

4gb of ram and 11.6" touchscreen are good features

chromeOS i'd be a bit unsure of long term, has been a bit slow to develop, although google seem to be more focused on getting apps to it lately

Anyone know if you could play mine craft on this? I'm useless. :(

It probably won't work with Windows, at least not for now. You could try to load Linux with more success and use Linux client for Minecraft.

Folks just to be clear here, this device doesn't have a hdd or installed os. Its a cloud PC, everything is run from the cloud on it.

To be clearer, it has a 16gb SSD. It runs on Chrome OS which focuses on working via the cloud. Google gives 1TB of cloud space for a year (possibly two, can't remember) with each chromebook.

Edit: it's two years of Google drive, 1TB

Yes, my point being you wouldn't really be planning to install a linux OS and Minecraft client.

    Reviews are very ordinary!

But for that price, its very tempting.

Any other good offers on chrome books?

Most reviews I've seen are based on the 2gb version. Reviews seem to indicate it's too expensive. This has 4gb and is cheap. I jumped in, I've been looking for a chromebook since the Toshiba chromebook 2 with 4gb ram isn't out until next year in Europe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,663 ✭✭✭pah

Jumped on this too, any chromebook for under 200 quid is an option IMO and the spec on this for 189 is great.

Exactly my reasoning for this being a great bargain. Like has been mentioned, just make sure you understand what a Chromebook is and whether it will suit your needs or not.

My dad has an iPad, loves it cos he only browses the web and sends emails etc. He does need an SD card slot sometimes though and has mooted that he would like a laptop of his own sometime.

How easy to use is the Chrome OS?

When you save a file etc like in a standard laptop does it automatically get saved to the cloud, what happens if you dont have internet connection?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 264 ✭✭evostik

Amazon showing it for £279.99 at the moment. Just bought one.

Coupon expiring tomorrow night 1st Dec.

very easy to use, when you save a file a window opens as usual and available locations are local which has 16gb or Google drive for the cloud. can also save to sd or USB drive.

Now £179 on Amazon though. Though it will likely go up once Irish VAT is factored in.

Nothing yet just says 'Order Status: Order in Process'.
Supposed to be 2-3 working days for shipping so will get on to them tomorrow if I still haven't heard anything.

I don't have a Lenovo, but got a Acer C720 chromebook, got it second hand for 130 euro. Anyone on the fence about getting any chromebook, for general surfing, notes, emailing etc you can't go wrong. Like streaming football? Get a chromecast and send that stream to your TV. Screens are not always the best but are getting better on the newer machines, overall really happy with it, battery lasts forever, almost zero fan noise, very portable (no moving parts) and boots up in 6 seconds.

They must be shipping them from China. I'm in no rush but poor show from buying direct from them

Got my shipping notice too. I'm hopeful the 3-6 days is just covering their ass and its actually delivered on Friday. Unlikely but we can hope! :D

I have the Samsung Chrome book for 2 years ,it is good , not good for dev and very limited shell but very good for web and college work .
It is far easier to use then an iPad .
I got my husband the new Lenovo one for Christmas because the Toshiba 2 is out of my price range .
Paid £179 for it on Amazon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,204 ✭✭✭moonboy52

The 2 year 1Tb Drive offer swung it for me.

I would have liked an IPS screen, but at least is has 4Gb of Ram.

I am not sure if one can do it on the Lenovo, but i was reading that some people have Linux installed as a dual boot or by way of a Virtual machine.

You will have it despatched later today or tomorrow morning i'm sure.

It seems to be around 72 hours after the confirmation comes through.

Is anyone considering this or has done it already?

I am in the same boat, although I ordered a Flex laptop on Monday, the details are the same! "Order in Process" even though the product was listed as shipping in 2-3 days! :(

I called the IE number earlier today and was put through to their call centre that I assume is in the far east. The response on giving the order number was "hmm, that should ship in 2-3 days, let me check up what the problem is and I will send you an e-mail." I am still waiting?

Taking a rather late look at the performance of Digitalriver I am very disappointed that Lenovo are using such an unprofessional company for direct sales.

From all the complaints in the links, it seems that they have serious issues and as soon as you click buy you can't then cancel!

    Very dodgy indeed!

Cheers for that. I'm going to try something like that. The first avi file I tried to play on it had no audio. There is no vlc alternative and I cant seem to get latest codecs to work. In saying that, I'm no expert and didn't spend hours working it out. I'd really like to be able to play various video files. It might say the chromebook supports mp4, avi etc but I'm finding it won't play everything you throw at it. Bit of homework to do.

It is possible ,I have not bothered though as for now it does everything I need and I just ssh to any other machines I need to access.
The limited shell is a bit of a pain for trouble shooting but nothing a "normal" user would notice.

    Bit of homework to do.

Uploading the file to Drive and playing it from there or re-encoding is the only way i could find in the few minutes googling it. There has to be another way :P

Lots of people use the Chromebox for XBMC so you could easily dual boot Openelec from a USB stick on this chromebook and it will play just about anything you throw at it.

I was in two minds, should really have jumped on it when the discount code was still valid - still tempted even now.
