Tit tape for stockings?

Would tit tape hold up stockings?

I bought a suuuuper tight dress today which will not allow for any kind of lines under it so hold ups and suspenders are out. Just wondering if I wore stockings, would tit tape keep them secure? Anyone ever done this before?

Doubt it would be strong enough.

Could you not buy hold ups instead?

Nope. Like I said in the OP, hold ups are out.

Hold ups don't sit seamlessly, they squeeze slightly, leaving a line on the thigh and dress is too tight for that.

(It's good right btw, not "should have bought a bigger size" tight).

Might be a bit mad but Could you get tight bigger than you need and pull them up over your belly (not saying you have 1) , but that would kinda come up to where your bra begins. Have done before with a fitted black dress.?

Yeh I'll defo just try tights if this doesn't work. I just hate tights! I used to buy great ones without a waistband, they were just smooth the whole way up and kind of supporty/stretchy at the top but no band pulling in - hard to explain :p

I had a google there of super strong tit tape and some answers came back suggesting doubly sided Sellotape!

You could try some Sally Hansen and go bare legged, really does make your legs look great !

Oh I forgot about Sally Hansen! That might work :)

That stays on well, doesn't it?

Yeah pretty good I put it on with a bit of sparkly moisturiser and rub it in. I find the colour of it can be a bit dark if I don't do this!

I did Irish dancing as a teenager and I had glue to keep my socks up, might be worth a Google?! Don't been know where you'd get it!

You could chance some strong fake eyelash glue, it's used in special effects makeup to stick prosthetics on etc so might be strong enough for stockings if you apply it liberally.

Whoops ya need body adhesive...gymnasts and dancers use it to keep their leotards from moving and flashing to the audience!

Thanks lads, I had a google based on your recommendations for body adhesive and ordered a product called staysput, it specifically says it works well for stockings! Hopefully so, if it does I'll wear it all the time because I don't like hold ups and suspenders don't sit right under everything!

Wolford seamless tights for the win. I can't wear cheap tights. Stockings are super fiddly no? I never got the hang of them.

Oh I was looking at wolford tights today and didn't know what to be buying!

Stockings are great. The trick, as the very lovely Faith taught me a long time ago, is to attach them to the suspender belt before you put them on, then out them on like tights! Works perfectly and you feel like a ride all day long :P

If you, um, want the knickers removed easily, put them on over the suspenders :pac:

    Sorry :o

I am a massive holdups fan, but once bought some that slithered down my legs in work.

    Sellotape solved the problem temporarily

Happened to me in a pub one night and put the fear of god into me about wearing them. I have to put a spare pair of tights in my bag now when I wear hold ups, just in case :o

I must say I prefer tights in winter. They might be unsexy but so is catching urinary tract infection because of cold.

Jaysus :pac: just a tad dramatic I think :D

I think I'll get by OK but thanks for your input!!!

I didn't mean it as it came accross but if you grow up in
-10 winters you do pay quite a bit attention to hosiery (that also means avoiding the rubbish Dunnes or m&s are selling). And I do find even Irish winters too cold to be comfortable in hold ups.

I was told by my GP to avoid tights to prevent cystitis (and thrush). I didn't know cold weather could affect it!

I never wear stockings because I considered them so fiddly, but they do look great so I guess I'll have to follow whoopsadaisydoodles' advice and just get some anyway. :)

OT: I've never heard of getting a UTI because of being cold either, they're caused by a bacterial infection aren't they?

Back on topic, Whoops (and Faith!) you've inspired me to give stockings a go :pac: Hate tights, having to readjust them after using the bathroom, the weird line/band bulge they make on your tummy, the claustrophobic feeling of them, all of it! Also had a dodgy experience with misbehaving hold-ups once but was put off stockings due to the fiddly-ness. Attaching them before putting them on is genius!

I just reported you by mistake instead of replying to message. Anyway I am in work and I posted wrongly for the second time so it is better for me just to bow out before another cock up.

Actually my gynae told me before that tights foster UTIs and anaerobic infections.

I think this is true if you get too hot. If temperature is comfortable etc, should be fine.
The cold bum issue would deter me from stockings, plus my thighs are definitely not my favourite area.

This stuff is brilliant for preventing the misbehaving hold ups issue http://www.boots.ie/en/Sanctuary-Long-Lasting-Moisture-4-Day-Moisture-Body-Oil-Spray-125ml_1296513/

If anyone is interested, these are the seamless tights I love. Not cheap but you can get them in sales or Kildare village. I normally buy one pair a year. http://www.wolfordshop.ie/product/boutique/fatal-50/10788

Really? I was always told that the golden rule of hold ups is to not use any sort of moisturiser on your legs before putting them on, because it destroys the grip of the rubber (I can confirm I made that mistake in my early days of wearing hold ups!).

It's a dry oil mist, I don't know why it works but it does for me! Any other body lotion has the opposite effect :)

I used to wear a lot of holdups. I work with mainly men so it does be a bit awkward if I wear them now.

Anyway. I always found holdups stayed up great with no help! Just don't moisturise and you will be grand. I top used to bring tit tape just incase but only had to use it once when the holdups I bought were too big.

You can get this in Dance World but I'm not sure I'd be 100% confident in its ability to keep stockings up.

While we're vaguely on the topic (but sorry if I'm hijacking your thread, whoopsa!), where do you all wear suspender belts? Low down, along the top of your knicker line, roughly, or up higher on your waist?

NSFW so I'll just link the images!

Higher up, mostly because my hips are small so it feels more secure!

Higher up because I'm hourglass kind of a shape so they sit neater above my hips.

Note to self - find a dress to wear with hold ups... My legs are my favourite body part so I refuse to wear tights on those grounds but just the thoughts of hold ups and a suspender belt worn outside the bedroom is making me feel like a bit of a ride :)

  • Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 25,948 Mod ✭✭✭✭Neyite

I cant vouch for stockings, but I've used tit tape very successfully when heel grips+nylons failed me. A couple of strips where your heels are on your shoes, and a couple more instead of the heel grips. In fact sometimes its hard to get the bloody shoes off!

I did know the knickers and stockings trick, but attaching the stockings to the belt is a genius idea!

I was also very prone to uti's leading into frequent kidney infections and tights and synthetic drawers seemed to encourage the bouts, as did thongs. A good trick my GP told me about was to double void when having a wee: Go as normal, wait a moment or two and squeeze out a drop or two more. It fully empties the bladder and reduces the pool that the bacteria can grow in. Since I did this, I rarely get them anymore.

The staysput stuff finally arrived yesterday! I haven't tried it yet. Will report back :D

    This stuff is feckin brilliant!

Stockings held perfectly in place, no budging, really comfy. None of the rolling you worry about with hold ups and no line where they sit. I'm very likely converted to this tbh!

I wear mostly body con style dresses so tight hold ups or suspenders don't always sit right, this is just perfect! Yay :D

Glad I asked here, I would never have known what to look for :)

Slighty OT but what stockings do you buy whoops? I find nearly all of them leave lines where the top is and the flesh bulges over!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48 doodlebops2015

    Some great tips here ..
I'm another who loves to wear hold ups and suspenders but the lines left with bodycon dresses makes me keep them strictly for special occasions.
Going to order some of that stays put stuff and hopefully can wear hold ups more often.
(my hubby will be happy) lol

    I missed this before, sorry.

I don't wear hold ups, only stockings, the that line isn't a problem. I bought falkes most recently and they're brill.

So you wear a stocking like a hold up with the staysput to act like the grip at the top of the holdup?

Yep. Doesn't budge, no lines under body con dresses, no worrying about them rolling down, and still hot as hell :D

Oh I'm looking forward to trying it out. I can keep the wonder knickers for the body con dresses but add a bit of hotness with the stockings ..
We all like to feel sexy !!!! ha ha
