I don't think the lads robbing cash in transit vans get their info from rte news so I have no problem with them broadcasting it :)

Those trucks were empty anyways, it was just a ploy by the banks to let people think they had money

I've never understood this, I thought they had automated systems to put the cash beyond use in the event of a robbery.

They do. We send it all to Germany. They mind it using guns.

I wouldn't like to be the driver of those vans now. The criminals will be too dumb to understand the technology behind securing the money. They'll just think there's money in the van so give us it. The driver will have a terrible time.

The banks have already been robbed blind from the inside by the people who ran them and the Government,Gardai and Army were powerless to stop them.
And what's more not a single person has spent a minute in prison as a result.!!

Broadcasting it might be a honeypot ploy.

I'm going to miss the horrified expressions of the American tourists in Galway as the guards and the army parade up Shop St to the bank.

I had one guy stop dead in his tracks, taking in the guns and soldiers, turn to me and whisper:

"What's happening? It's alright, you can tell me..."

The guards and army won't be happy. That's 7 million a year gone from the wages

The army will be on the dole now.

wait, did RTE not make mention of the first few banks/routes to stop using the forces as defence? This was about a year back, but it doesn't surprise me that more aren't paying for the "service".

It's not really necessary. Most countries don't use the army for this. Although I do hope it doesn't mean more redundancies.

My money is on the Gardai trailing the cash vans anyway to see if they're being tailed by gangs.

They don't usually need them because the CIT van operators are armed and trained in the use of firearms themselves.

Yes, the Bankers, Developers and Speculators, ie Fianna Fail Cronies have done it right under their noses.

They do. Use to be red dye packs that would detonate if the alarm system was triggered. My grandfather actually worked on implementing this in Ireland back in 70's/80's.

They still havent got the message though, t'was but one year ago that a gentleman thief was found by the local constabulary, with loot from a carriage heist, attempting in vain to wash said dye from the notes in a river.

(The outrage took place at Clarehall shopping center iirc)

I heard of it over the wireless, how I chortled, quel buffoonerie.

Very few countries faced the same internal security threat which Ireland did. Republicans funded much of their activities, arms/explosive procurement etc through funding from armed robberies.

This internal threat was combated by our security forces on many levels, armed CIT escorts being one.

This is probably a good move and might free up some of our troops for more overseas service.

Ah here they must not get out much. If you ever see delivers of cash in the states you'd definitely see guns. And these guys would not be half as skilled or trained as our army.

    Wrong!

They'll be on disability because there all deaf!

    Why would you post that?
    Ignoarnace? Stupidity? Jealousy?

I joined the army back at the end of the '70's.

Before I joined 800,000 passed through the services.

Tens of thousand have passed through since.

Less than 1% made a claim for hearing loss and its done and over now.
None of these could have claimed jack **** if Civil Servants and ministers paid a blind bit of attention to international studies and domestic studies that proved beyond any doubt that hearing protection was a requirement. Failure to provide it was certain to lead to hearing damage. Everyone knew this.

So, for all you ignorant finger pointers - the blame is not on the victims, many of whom paid and wore hearing protection before being ordered to remove it. The blame for all that ****e lies squarely with the usual wasters.
The worthless chair polishing, pen pushing ministers, civil servants and money grabbing solicitors ( who took double payment in many cases and then simply "lost" the files before the inquiry into their conduct) Over 1/3 of the monies paid out landed in the solicitors and barristers pockets.

We've several lifetimes service in my family and none us ever claimed a penny.
Irish Soldiers kept peace where peacekeepers were desperately needed, we repaired bomb damaged bridges, buil wells and homes and orphanages. We dismantled viable devices that were intended to kill and maim. For over fifty years when the bad guys pushed we shoved back for the people who could not do it for themselves. We represented our country with respect and honour and there is not a single country we've been that wouldn't welcome us back tomorrow.
WTF did you and the people who thanked your dog ignorant post ever do bar post ****e on internet site?

Surely the army patrol that follow the banks are more of an additional deterrent to thieves?

I can't imagine a soldier would ever raise a gun to anyone trying to steal from the van in the first place anyway. But they're a visible deterrent.

Besides, wasn't Garda Adrian Donohoe killed in a Cash In Transit robbery (albeit on a smaller scale). I wouldn't be calling Cash In Transit's safe at all. I'd imagine there are hundreds of people all over the country that will be plotting something now. They might never make away with a penny, but that won't stop them doing damage in the process.

Very, very good.. I'm sure you've sheltered (like me) with civilians in places like Haddatha, Brashit, At Tiri, Al Yatun etc.. Watched our comrades die under fire from the SLA/DFF, the IDF & Amal etc.

Helped at the Tibnin orphanage, hosting their Christmas party in Camp Shamrock during one winter trip is a treasured memory for me.

Given up a silent prayer at the many small monuments to fallen Irish soldiers in the Irish battalion area of operations, I'll include some photos of them here..

Fair play to ya for calling someone out with this hearing sh*t..

    Photos;

Well you know what, we take enough crap and sit silently by.

Mostly I let people stew in their ignorance, so it was nice to see that poster above hit back. Makes a nice change to see someone's wings being clipped.

Our defense forces have served the country proudly both at home and abroad, through war and peace.

It doesn't say if the garda escort is going to stop. Just the army. The guards were only ever there to arrest someone anyway as the army can't.

I know of a an post il van just used to get a garda escort everyday. Not sure if it's still happening.
