What did I miss in three years?

So today is the third year anniversary of my emigration.

As far as I can figure out the only thing that has changed in Ireland is that house prices are now going up and that Dublin bikes are now sponsored by Coca-Cola.

Anything else significant happen? I appear to have missed the incarceration of Bertie Ahern, Fingers Fingleton and the Anglo Golden Circle. What else didn't happen?

Yeah, I heard a bit about that. Apparently you can rape the taxpayers to pay back bondholders that you are not obligated to pay back and no-one bats an eye, but bring in a bit of a charge to try and update an antiquated and wasteful water supply and everyone loses their mind.

Ireland has become the new Vegas.

A place where high rollers gamble other people's money (ours) and piss it all away.

But then, we voted for them.

Awww.. sweet. Thanks for asking. I've been over once for about a week, but I doubt it. I'm not sure I'll be in the US for the rest of the natural. I feel like I have one more move in me (I've changed countries three times) but where I don't know. South America perhaps.

Global warming! Because of this every home and business in Ireland is now solar powered, so we all have negative ESB bills. I am ATM sitting on the veranda planning my Christmas Barbie, while plucking a lime to squeeze into my G&T. Best not brag though.

Yeah, mine's a 5.89 Mwh system (105%) of our usage. 310 days of sun a year which means our average Electric and Gas utility bills is about $6 net a month. We generally get a cheque for $36 from the electric company each month.

Which country did you emigrate to from Ireland, while passing lazy soundbites and no longer paying taxes here?

Can you list the prosecutions of bankers in the US, UK, and Germany, etc?

I'll give you one in the US for every one in Ireland.
Kareem Serageldin sentenced to 30 months in 2014 .

    Your turn. :)

I wasn't aware emigrants had to pay taxes to use boards.ie, I'm a subscriber though (just lapsed - must pay the next year) does that count?

It rained last Tuesday for a bit, and Steve McDonald left the wife one day last week, not sure as it's the wife that watches it tbh.

Also, willy (my neighbour) cut down the tree in his backyard, and a new chipper opened up down the village, chips are much from it though.

Twink won't be doing the Limerick panto this year.

Her two daughters in America were very upset.

But, don't worry, she wasn't sacked, she resigned.

    Twink's dog escaped.

But, don't worry, the dog was returned.

Something that hasn't changed is irish people's negativity and cynicism toward their own country. I've said it before and I'll say it again: nobody deserves a recession as much as us. We absolutely love having something to complain and whinge about. I've been lucky enough to travel around the world a bit, and to have met many fine people from all over the place, and I can assure you, we are the most miserable I've come across. Of course the great irony here is that it's taken my depressing Irish attitude to notice it.

Actually I did. I live in the Southwest and they are actually very practical hats for driving, and riding horses, and people nod at you when you also wear a hat. As I live in horse country I do actually ride quite a bit now. Not a big fan of large Stetson (which is a brand rather than a style) I went for the black hat badassery that is this one... a decent hat is serious business as you can tell by the price.

I 'found myself' in Ireland really through circumstance rather than choice and if you take a little gander at the cost of an Irish Passport for people such as myself you will see why the US one will be my second, not my third! Traitor lol.

Fact (or stalker alert!) - a reply by your good self was the very first thing I read on boards. Think the thread was about road trips in the states or something similar. Your username and location have stuck in my head since.

At the rates things are going here - we're in the middle of a Thanksgiving/Black Friday/Cyber Monday thingy - we will be very much Americanised by the time you do come back.
