Language is the first beneficiary of cultural exchange. Long may it continue evolve despite the efforts of backward elements in every generation to have it set in stone.

This is only according to *some* post-modern academics spouting the linear/progressive approach to history, aka history as time/man-influenced change gravitating towards higher-order. I disagree with this ideological narrative. History is the movement of ideas and biological cycles and all changes aren't to be considered 'progress'.

We must first look at the quality of any changes that are happening to determine if they are beneficial or negative, in order to become better as a people/society. This is something your theory ignores. We must remember that all change is not good, as change is either inferior - thus is regressive - or increases the value and prospects of society - i.e. is a positive change. Language is a human function and subjective tool that ideally should lead to a better understanding and elucidating of thoughts and ideas. This leads to a complex and efficient society capable of advancement, as language (materialisation of ideas) is the basis of all civilisation, whether art, philosophy, media, science, religion, etc. Cultural Americanism doesn't embody the raising of quality, instead it brings everything down to the lowest common denominator. Everything is brought down to 'the many' and rarely goes higher, with fast food, Hollywood, rapid consumerism, sarcastic/manipulative mass-media being peculiar American norms.

If we continue to embrace their language we'll in time become increasingly more like them, just as we became much like the British after the adoption/ forcing of their language. If this does occur, long may we revel in the inferior, politically/ethnically divided, live-to-work & money-worshiping, intellectually defunct society just as they have. Pearse was correct - change the language and you change the essential thought-structure and soul of a civilisation. In this case, we, along with the other unique and original cultures, will be replaced by something that is culturally grotesque.
