Best wishes and hope he has a good recovery.

Yeah its a pretty frightening to read about, some truly disgusting "journalism" about, "last week he was fighting for his test place, this week his life" from one of the Aussie rags.

Got to feel for Abbot the bowler as well, former team mates with Hughes as well, he must be in bits right now. :(:(:(

It's really shocking to see him collapse to the floor face-first with no arms out to break his fall.

Also surprising to see reports of how long it took for an ambulance to arrive/him to leave the field.

I wondered that a bit, and also why he was taken by road ambulance when the air ambulance was there. Unless Vincent's is right there next to the ground.

True, no interest in watching cricket at the moment, and I was quite looking forward to the return of Vettori in the UAE.:(

This is a superb article btw, Hughes comes across as a top notch bloke.

Really hope the guy fully recovers but he still seems to be in an induced coma so there may be some time before more news comes out

I've seen from one report that they actually flew specialists in by helicopter to treat him at the ground. From personal experience getting the right treatment quickly is potentially a lot more critical than getting someone to hospital which may explain the delay

Another article just published same writer, Peter Lalor. Its very moving and worth a read. :(

Probably sound like his agent in this thread, but its worth keeping an eye on his twitter, he seems to be the main media person on top of this.

Such a tragedy when people lose their lives playing sport. Thoughts must also go out to Sean Abbott, the poor 22 year old who bowled that fatal ball and has been receiving counselling since the incident.

Sad to hear the news this morning that he passed away.
Shocking that someone could die whilst playing a sport, but it was a freak accident.
Feel for his family and the bowler, who will struggle to deal with this I'm sure.

    R.I.P

    Horrendous news, RIP.

I hope it doesn't destroy Sean Abbott, it could have been any bowler, just a freak accident.

What a dreadful accident, heartbreaking for all concerned. Could just as easily have happened at any age, any grade, anywhere.

    RIP Phillip.

Woke up to the devastating news a couple of hours ago. So sad, thoughts go to his family and friends. 25 is no age at all to be taken from your family.

    RIP Phil

Edit: I also want to say, spare a thought for the bowler Sean Abbott, he must be in bits after it too.

I am an occasional cricket follower, but I don't think I'll be able to watch for a while now. Such a tragedy form someone so young and so talented to lost his life playing sport. I cannot imagine the grief of the unfortunate bowler.

RIP Phil Hughes. Absolutely tragic. Didn't think this was a possibility, thought a full recovery would be made. Poor Sean Abbott as well. Only 22 - he may never recover.

From what I have read Clarke and Hughes sister have reached out to him which is very touching. He shouldn't blame himself and everyone will tell him that, but its going to be hard for him to come back. He can bat a bit so if he does it maybe as a batsman only. Won't criticise his choice either way.

    anyways

Cricket Australia posted this tribute, I'd defy anyone not to have at least a tear watching it. :(

Very sad, so young as well, he was already a top batsman but I genuinely think his best was still to come, not that matters now. Gone far too young.

Thoughts as well with Sean Abbott, I don't know how he will deal with this, he must be a broken man, only 22 himself and will have to carry this around for the rest of his life.

This is a real sporting tragedy.

Very touching video there as well.

    RIP

    No thats Moises Henriques.

I'd say in some way a piece of Sean Abbott died as well. Hard to see anyone coming back from a tragedy like this, and even if he does continue to play would he be able to put this behind him. What would be going through his mind at the top of his run-up. At least Phil is at rest, this poor young man will be tormented for the rest of his days. I pray he is looked after well.

Perplexed how it could, funeral will only be a day or so before the test match.

Supposedly the players don't want to play which is understandable.
