How was 2014 for you?

So, I know there is still 40 days left in the year but I thought I'd start this now (in AH of all place, ohhh the humanity!). Title is pretty self explanatory.

For me, it's been a weird one. From realising a college-long dream to losing a person I care about very much, from making friends to losing a close one due to the horrid illness knows as depression it's been quite mixed. So, how has the year been for you? Any goals you hit? New Years resolution still in check? Or has it been just another normal year where you've mixed the good with the bad?

Its been a ****e year for ireland. Politicians takin us for a ride the whole time. Fatcats lining their pockets up in dublin wile we sit here hashing away day in day out to pay for water that falls out of the sky. Sooner we have revolution the better. Look at countries like mexico killing their politicians yet here we are giving garda escorts to the jokers running this country into the ground.

Give me depression any day - try living with someone who has bipolar. Then again hey-ho still breathing. I guess I wouldn't take on anyone else's problems at the same time

For me, it's been pretty much a fairly mixed bag with various ups and downs, to be honest. Can only hope that 2015 will be better!

Terrible, even worse than last year.

I received a pretty exclusive award in my area of work for my second year, which I wanted to do, to prove it wasn't just a fluke. Some people get it and don't get renewed because they get found out. I feel like I proved myself. I started a new job, working with some really cool and smart people. I got to learn some new things. I got a puppy.

It was going great, until last Saturday. One of my best friends and one of my only friends where I am died(living abroad now). He had cancer but was told things were looking good. Unfortunately, the chemo killed him. Got an e-mail from him saying he was finishing up his chemo this week and wanted to meet up after the week after Thanksgiving...which would have been 2 weeks from now.

The last time we met up, he was saying a lot of cryptic sh1t. He was scared. Heartbreaking.

A combination of brilliant and sh1t.

Met my OH, fell in love.
    Started an exciting new job.
Worked more than I've ever worked in my life and started having panic attacks.
Moved to a new city that I'm not quite sure of.
    Lost a close friend.

I think really that last one will define 2014 for me. The rest of them, well that's just life, but I'll never see my friend again and that's an enormously difficult pill to swallow.

    Less shít than 2013 was.
    A lot shíttier than 2012.

A mixed result, one could say. I'm sure 2015 will be totes amazeballs though....

    Fast. 2014 was very fast.

A good summer is alot of the reason, found this and last year flew.

Last January Garth Brooks came to Dublin and announced his gigs. My sister and I went battling for tickets and were lucky to get tickets. For some time we were both dealing with the aftermath of muck being thrown upon on backs. All that kinda melted away as we looked forward together in anticipation for the gigs. My sister travelled to croke park on the day of the announcement in the hope that her guessing would be correct and the artist would turn out to be Garth Brooks. She met him, got his autograph and her picture taken with him and it provided a huge emotional boost for her and I was so happy for her too. For the first time in ages she was lifted. The first part of the year flew so fast and looking forward to the gigs helped that. Anyways, it never happened and it was a huge crash down. Unfortunately we're not holding any hope or light for him to return to Ireland and that's dampening.

After this, another family member emergrated.

Another family member living abroad, had a baby and that was very exciting but it is very hard because they are on the other side of the world and the distance is so big.

All in all, it's been a sh1t year with sprinklings of other bullsh1t and worries.

    All in all,

Jeez folks, that's absolutely awful. Condolences.

It was an uneventful year for me, which when put into perspective like the above, is a good thing. Well work has been quite sucky for a while, but I've started upskilling and looking for another job. It's something that's easy to have a contingency plan for (and the jobs market does appear to be improving where I am - I know that's not the case throughout Ireland by any means though) even if it can be kinda soul-destroying at times.

    It was eventful.

I got married, bought my first home, got a pug puppy, applied to be a foster carer and did a course.

Think I've been happy this entire year, first time I've been able to say that in years :)

Quite a mixed one for me. Just had year anniversary with the gf and thats going well. Passed all my college exams easy and into year 2 and that's going well although I have 2 assignments and about 5500 words between them to complete before the weekend is out:o Im a serial procrastinator. After 7 years of stagnation and no promotions in work, I finally got a promotion which brings a wealth of new opportunities so looking good there.

But financially I have fallen apart this year. I've fallen into arrears on some loans and constantly feeling deflated and stressed the last few months. Its a rut I'm determined to work my way out of and will mean moving back with the folks for a while. So yeah a mixed year and overall I would say more positive than negative.

Overall 2014 has been a great year. I'll be sorry to see the back of it. It wasn't 100% perfect - I didn't do well with my "stop fcucking procrastinating" resolution and there was some fam1ly **** that I wish never happened. But mostly it was bloody brilliant.

I cut ties with a toxic friend and I was amazed at how much easier and happier my life was without them. No drama, no emotional blackmail, no feeling bad about myself, no more constant competition, no more Bully B1tch! After getting away from their personality stealing "that's MY thing" behaviour, I am finally getting myself back.

My relationship is going from strength to strength. I can honestly say I have never been this happy. Or this in love.

I'm feeling healthier than I have felt in a long, long time. I've lost 2st 7 pounds and I'm back to a healthy size 12. I feel fitter and stronger and I've proven to myself that I CAN achieve something if I just commit to it and believe in myself. And I'm starting to get the confidence to apply that to other aspects of my life.

    Roll on 2015.

Still too much of it left to truly evaluate.. some things stand out,,, my first broken bones, well bones actually... not bad at 70... first real experience of bad medical care over that and the memories are with me permanently with deformity. Learned that at this age everything take longer to heal . .

My thankfulness to be alive grows daily and my thankfulness for the pension eetc that means I can live in my own home.. an awareness of the value of life..

Workwise and that for me means knitting and beading and selling, a blessedly busy year and the Christmas Fairs start tomorrow.. Love to work and knit and design.

And to meet so many and chat a I knit.

Not looking forward or back now,, the day and the morrow are all, to be lived to the full .. got rammed by an Italian tourist turning on to the wrong side of the road and for a second thought I would be killed and that puts everything into proportion

Pretty mixed. Lost an aunt and uncle in the space of a month and wasn't able to get home for the funerals.

But got to travel to lots of places this year that I always wanted to go to and had some really good news in my immediate family. Actually, a fairly good year all in all.

It's been a grand year as in there's been no major disasters. Two biggest events for me was walking the full Camino Francés on my own and starting back at uni. Things are still going strong with your man and we're approaching 4 years now, which is a record for me. I'm very happy on that front.

A few of my very close friends left Spain in the last 6 months, which has been ****, tbh. Harder to make friends like them as you get older. Place is not the same without them at all and a few more are planning to leave soon. End of an era. My job is doing my head in as well and it's starting to get very tedious. Putting too much energy into something that only a few bother their arse with. Adult students who've paid for classes and complain about homework and don't do any study whatsoever after class is getting to me and it's becoming very disheartening, particularly when I put so much energy into it. Inertia is kicking in so I'm leaving next Summer to go back to England and hopefully do my master's and work in something more interesting.

Overall though, I've no real reason to complain. Looking forward to next year! Hopefully I won't have any real complaints this time next year either.

On the plus side left a job I despised.

    Fantastic :)

    Relationship still going strong.
    Got a raise.
I've applied to go back to college.
Cut some bad 'friends' out of my life, and made new ones.
Getting on exceptionally well with my family.
    Mental health firmly under control.
    Quit smoking.

It got off to a bad start but since March it has been good. I'm happier in my job, I met a great girl and I've added a bit of width to my shoulders through a lot of hard work in the gym. Next year I'm gonna work on those stubborn calf muscles.

^^ Never skip Leg Day! :)

I'm trying to think of a positive spin on ANYthing that happened this year, but in truth, 2014 was shíte for me in every single way, bar none. The only positive thing I can think of is that I didn't lose anybody very close to me over the past year.
