My husband is a chartered engineer works in the construction sector and is earning about 1/3 less now that he was getting in the boom, when he came here in the late 90's ( from the UK ) salaries were nearly double what you could get in the Uk for similar positions.

Salaries in some sectors have come down a lot since the boom, although a reduction form 32k to 23k does sound a lot.

Enda Kenny will still be Taoiseach until 2021. It's 2014 now, this country will still be the backwards, corrupt kip it is as the current moment.

I SEE..You're future..I see you moving to Australia or Canada. Not making as much money as you thought, working a job which you dislike, getting your heart broken and moving back to Ireland to the realization that it is in fact, not a kip!

I never thought, Ireland was a kip. Been living in the US for 3 years. I still don't think it's a kip. I'd love to move back at some stage too

2021? He'll be lucky to last to Christmas ffs.

You underestimate the skill Irish politicians have at not giving up their jobs. The facts are FG are heavy favourites to lead the next government, and if Enda Kenny leads them into there is 0 reason he will not stay on for another term.

Not that it particularly matters who is the Taoiseach from FG. Leo Varadkar would be better, at least he is younger. I dont see anything changing regardless though.

When I save enough dole I'll emigrate, this country is a backwards banana republic. I have no seen any "recovery" and I live beside a large rural town, jobs are very difficult to come by unless you know the right people. This recovery talk is just typical bull**** political spin. Most of my friends with good jobs work abroad.

Jobs are not being created thats the cold hard facts, especially outside Dublin. Enda Kennys always there for a photo opportunity with RTE news when a couple of jobs are created usually in a place than made twice that number redundant several months before. Nothing will change in the next election either, theres plenty of people out there particularly in the media and other high up positions happy with the status quo.

Enda Kenny will still be Taoiseach until 2021. It's 2014 now, this country will still be the backwards, corrupt kip it is as the current moment.

There is no land of milk and honey. You are in for a rude awakening when you realise that, bar the Nordic States, we have it as good as any country in the world. In reality being born in Ireland is like winning the lottery, our way of life and even our political system is miles ahead of 99% of the world. If your miserable here chances are you will be miserable any where. Have you ever thought that Ireland is not to blame , it's you.

I envy you. You obviously weren't foolish enough to read the whole thread.

As for me I just finished reading after starting at post one. I went from thinking, poor OP, shure he's better off than he thinks as he was selected for interview, only to end up banging my head off the desk at what he has done.

Not sure how he got the job offer considering how he has come across on this thread.

Company had a lucky escape me thinks... unless the job was for Village idiot.

16 years experience, a masters and not even able to demand 30k when offered a job?

What's the **** is the masters in? Basket Weaving?

And you turn your nose up at the thought of upskilling?

I just realised that the Op turned down the job. Jesus wept, some people have no pride!

Just a word on the company I work for, 3 people left in the last 4 months for new jobs. We have been doing interviews and the standard is appalling, turning up late, CV's that don't add up. I was shocked I thought people would have the basics nailed on.

When I was job hunting myself I sometimes went for jobs that were a little out of my comfort zone, but at least I'd have a good CV and know what the company actually did.

I think this thread was just one big trolling his username is costadeldole.

Interestingly I think 150 people applied for my job and they interviewed just a handful.

Jesus. Trolls used to bother their holes covering their tracks. FFS.
    You are mistaken.
Today I was called back to the second round of interviews next week.
    Your guess wasn't good.
Just thought I would update you all.
I attended the second round of interviews this morning, and in the afternoon I got a call offering me the job..

I will ban you permanently from this forum if you troll it again.
