Pain when running

Hi all. Just got back into running on the roads the past few weeks. I had a pair of ordinary asics and they were fine but after a few runs the arch in my right foot would get severe pain and spread along up the side to my ankle bone and in around my heel. I went to a sports shop and told the woman etc about it so she recommend asics with the gel in the bottom of the runner. When I started with them they were really comfortable but again after about 10k the pain came back. It's only when I'm putting pressure on the foot as in running or when I land from squat jumps or tuck jumps etc.

Can anyone recommend any exercises to get rid of the pain. It's obviously a mobility issue or the way I'm walking. Any help be appreciated. Thanks :)

Thanks for th infor Transform (yet again). Will sit down when I finish work and have a good read and watch the videos properly. Forgot to mention I get a pain on top of my calf but I see in the video you address the ankle and calf mobility. Thanks

Don't know where you went to but it might be worth trying somewhere that does gait analysis. I've always done well with Amphibian King but there are other shops that offer it such as runways (Elvery's too although reports suggest that the quality of their analysis can be a bit hit and miss). Also, try a brand other than Asics. I think that Asics make a great shoe but I can't wear them because they're too narrow for me even though they feel fine when I put them on in the shop and walk around in them.

I can highly recommend Runways for a gait analysis. They know their stuff and I'd trust them. The guy wouldn't let me near a pretty blue pair I was looking at, after seeing how I ran :p
I used to have issues with other asics ones but the ones I have for running I think are also asics, they're just completely different and I have had zero issues with those

Have you been to a physio? From your description it sounds like it could be plantar fasciitis as I had something similar but I did't have severe pain just a mild ache along the arch which spread to the heel.

re gait analysis - these are generally sales tools to guide you into buying a certain show which isnt necessarily a bad thing but the underlying issue is NOT being resolved.

its a band aid approach that needs to be fixed.

keep in mind that this just covers the ankles and calves, you should be addressing the entire body and from my experience with runners they are very very weak and should be doing far more strength work

    This sooo much.

Gait analysis etc is great but not much point doing it and getting new runners if the problem is more fundamental.

Work from first principles. Do the mobility work and if it's not resolving, then consider gait analysis.

run on softer ground - find a field or park and use it instead of the hard paths/road

look at Dom's videos, the lower legs and feet can be so tight and its generally an area people pay very little attention to
