Seems to be loads of offers for the club card points but this seems to be one of the most practical. Thought I would draw attention to it as redeeming it is quite convoluted.

First connect your Bord Gais account with the club card you want to use at https://www.bordgaisenergyrewards.ie/ Scroll to the bottom and add Tesco account.

To redeem these club card vouchers
    1. Log on to tesco.ie/clubcarddeals, select the Bord Gáis Energy Deal and enter the 12 digit online code(s) on your Clubcard voucher(s) on the request form

    2. Receive an e-mail within a day with your Bord Gáis Energy unique voucher code

    3. Log on to www.bordgaisenergyrewards.ie then enter your Bord Gáis Energy unique voucher code to credit your Bord Gáis Energy account in the next billing cycle

The value of the credit is twice the value of a Tesco Clubcard voucher (e.g. every €5 worth of Clubcard vouchers equals €10 off your Bord Gáis Energy bill). You get 100 free points when you register with bordgaisenergyrewards.

+1. And works for billpay too. :D

You also get Clubcard points for your BG bill. You also get a 5% discount if you go paperless. Then if you work out all those discounts, BG will work out as the cheapest supplier.

Are you sure they're U.K. owned?

Yes. BG's commercial arm is own by Centrica, a UK company, inturn owned by...and so on and on

Tesco is of course a British company responsible for the closure of thousands of bakers butchers and small family grocers all over Ireland and the UK.

    enjoy your vouchers.

    Centrica are a UK PLC.

They are not owned by Tesco despite what is being claimed up thread!

Not trying to derail the offer, but to confirm other poster's comments:

"Bord Gáis Éireann was renamed Ervia in 2014. Ervia is a commercial semi-state company delivering water and gas infrastructure and services for Ireland."

Reclaiming the Tesco vouchers for your Gais bill is very convoluted. Its nuts! I cant imagine any elderly people been able to navigate this nonsense. They should look at it to simplify it for customers.

I regularly do this. Works a treat as well if you have a Tesco credit card as you get points for purchases.

It is a convoluted process, but worth it to me. Last year, I was so much in credit with BG (I do level pay which they work out at the start of the year based on the previous year's bills), I got them to send me out a nice cheque at Christmas time - the process here was also a little convoluted, but it was an extra bunce in my pocket at just the right time, bearing in mind that half of it was basically free money. They adjusted my level pay this year, but I'm still in credit, so I'll look to do it again.

The other thing is they have a nice symbiotic thing going on. Use vouchers to pay your bill, you get points for paying your bill, you get vouchers for your points...

Corblimey - Quick question as i also usethe level pay system. If i redeem the vouchers online on the BG rewards site will this then be deducted off a subsequent bill from BG? If so will it then show up as reduction on the next bill?

Clubcard points arrived this morning - €14.50. I have the credit card as well so I get 1pt for every €2 spent on that as well. Don't actually spend that much in Tesco itself.

I use my vouchers for Tesco Mobile.

For example the above €14.50 is just 50c shy of getting free calls for three months with the x3 boost with TM.

The way it works for me is I pay X every month, and use my Tesco vouchers as they arrive

On each bill then, it shows
    Level pay month X
    Level pay month X
    Tesco Y

All of this is taken off my bill resulting in the amount getting progressively lower. The level pay amount doesn't change month to month based on the amount of credit on the account if that's what you're asking

I used to do this but switched to Energia, saved 200 euro and now use them for my mobile instead. €5 in clubcard vouchers gets me 6 -8 weeks of mobile calls, texts and data. Tesco get a lot of stick but they have some good deals going on.

I use my tesco vouchers towards BG bill but after a year I still cannot fathom out how it works! Im on level pay and pay about €50 per month. when I enter vouchers (sometimes I could have €200 worth of BG vouchers) its just credited to my account and €50 is still be debited form my bank account each month! right now my account is €553 in credit!

They have a standing order with your bank and are deducting that amount no matter what. Maybe you should go back to direct debit bill by bill.

That's what happened to me last year, and I got them to send me out the money in a cheque. I had to do some hoop jumping around cancelling the level pay and calling again in the new year to reinstate it, but it worked.

I believe they will also take that credit and use it to adjust your level pay for next year if you prefer to do it that way. Give them a call either way, I'd say.

I was with BG up to two weeks ago on their level pay scheme, I only used my Tesco Vouchers for Tesco Mobile so had a lot of vouchers built up so I cashed in €400 in vouchers before I left BG and got around €800 back upon closing my account. I moved to Airtricity to avail of their €55 credit upon joining and much lower rates.

Cheers guys. rang numerous times over year and each time was told the credit on the accoutn was normal, not to worry about it, it would even itself out at end of the year but still every few months my direct debit payment would creep up! but i did decide to ring today as I put on €280 credit during the week and fair play to girl she worked out new bill based on my meter reading and credit on account and dropped my monthly bill by nearly €40!

slave1- did they give you a cheque for all the credit left on your account?? this is good to know if so! we signed up with them last year as they were the cheapest but not the case these days

tbh, I'm not sure the difference between providers is that big but obviously it depends on what tariff you're on. Airtricy offer at present is good but looking at the rates they are more expensive after the first year. I would make a marginal saving in the first year. More than likely some people shop across the supermarkets which will mean they still pick up a certain % of stuff in Tesco. Add to that I'll do most of my booze shopping in it for xmas, buy petrol etc. It's nice to be aware you can use the the vouchers towards this.

Agreed. We saved around €30/40 a week shopping away from Tesco - not a small sum over a year. No clubcard deals can beat that
