I enjoy mine anyway...I think I'm blessed that I do....always feel very sorry for people who are stuck in jobs they hate and can't afford to leave due to having kids/mortgages etc.....it must be amiserable way to live dreading going to work everyday for years on end with no positives atal from it

I actually dont mind it at all, but a lot of days I've **** all to do for 3 or 4 hours and the day drags like hell. Feel like a bit of a spare prick standing around as well.

    No.

In my work I deal with a lot of difficult 'customers' of the organisation.

Many of the staff do just the bare minimum.

Management don't give a **** and are too busy covering their arses.

Outsiders think I get paid too much, when in truth I'm not being paid enough.

I do however get on well with the couple of people in my particular office so it's not all bad!

Yes I love my job. It helps that the majority of people where I work are lovely (most of the time).

Most of the time it's a great job, except when things go pearshaped and a certain someone has to sort it all out..

I don't mind my job, certainly don't dread it tbf. It could be a but more challenging and I wish I got out a bit more but I have gained a lot of experience from it. All in all, it's grand.

I'm leaving soon and starting to feel very sad about the people I'm saying goodbye to and the office in general is a lovely working environment, but careerwise I know I need to move on.

Yes, I like my job. Can get a bit repetitive at times, but most jobs do I guess!

Work driving me wrong lately, everyday seems to be me talking myself out of jacking, just going to hang in there till Xmas and then see if I can find something else for the new year .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,070 ✭✭✭pauliebdub

I hate mine for the following reasons:
    1) Im bored with nothing to do half the time.
    2) I dont feel valued or particularly wanted and dont have a great relationship with colleagues.
    3) There is no promotion or career progression at all.
    4) The work i do is tedious and very boring.

Ive been looking for work but not finding anything. Ill give it a serious lash in the new year.

I always find it difficult to empathise with those people myself who complain about their circumstances, yet do nothing themselves to change it. There should be no excuses and no justifications to remain miserable in their choice of careers, because there are infinite opportunities especially nowadays to upskill and retrain and enter into a career in which they'll obtain fulfillment and job satisfaction.

The alternative is simply continued misery which will seep into every other aspect of their lives, and eventually spread out to everyone else close to them. That's why those who say they're not happy with their job but they stay in it to provide for their families, pay their bills (or the ever classic - "there are no jobs out there"), etc, they're using excuses and putting the blame on other people already for their own lack of motivation and ambition.

I like it but the pace of things causes time to fly by at an alarming rate. August feels like last week.

I wouldn't say I hate my job, but, it's close. I can't move away right now, since it's a permanent position and it would look bad in the CV. Maybe I'm just unlucky but it seems that employers don't believe that an employee can leave a job because isn't happy there...

    I'm in IT.

Looking forward to get another job that makes me hate weekends because they keep me away from work :)

I've only been in my job for about a month or so, I wouldn't say I love it but it's definitely more bearable than most other things I can imagine. I don't think there's a single job in existence that I would truly love, sadly I seem to have no real passion or aptitude for anything. Mainly I'm just grateful to have a job - being unemployed and facing constant rejection made me feel like I was worthless and completely useless to society.

Last year I would have said "Yes, absolutely love it". But now.. I still enjoy what I actually do, the day to day stuff - I really do love it. But management, politics, contract issues, combined with the fact my "lunch" breaks are now all over the place (i.e. at 10am two days a week, 11am one day) has made each week difficult to be honest. No set structure, the days just seem to go on forever.

Same here to a point. I actually really like many parts of my job, but the poor management and being understaffed has made me want to walk out of there a few times. I don't plan on staying at it anyway, because of the poor pay but mostly because I want to get out of support roles and use my brain a bit more. Unfortunately I don't have an exact idea of what I would like to do. I like the area I'm in, and the department even, so the lack of room to progress within my department really isn't working out so well.

Employers don't like when you leave permanent positions, especially when is less then 1 or 2 years, like my case. It sends the message that you can't stay in a place time enough to contribute to the company. Like I said, most employers will not consider that actually you're a good professional, and that the problem resides in the management side.

Love it, more a career than a job. Pay is amazing and I travel a hell of a lot. Stress is extreme but I thrive on it. I'd say I live to work more so than the other way round.

I love my job, they treat me like a person rather than a number, I'm presently on week 7 of compassionate leave to help with a family medical emergency, no paperwork, no issues, just told them the problem and got 100% support.

Like most, I have bad work days, but its the fact that they treat me with respect that makes it all worthwhile :)

It's like the De Niro quote from a film I can't remember, Heat maybe? Never work in a job you can't leave in two minutes flat. That's my motto.

I absolutely hate my job. It's boring, slightly embarrassing, low pay and only on a 16hr contract so I have to beg every week to extra hours, usually 30.
There are no promotional prospects and even if there were I couldn't work with my boss who is an uninspiring, socially inept prick.

It's shift work over the weekends so l never get to meet my friends or join clubs or do an evening course. The last couple of years has been tough.
I try and take the positives out of it though like I never worry about my job when I finish a shift and lm not stressed out except for money cause then I know its a week of cheap dinners , walking everywhere.
Anyway I've a job interview in 2 days so wish me luck.

Before this job, I was in my last one 9 months, one before that was 9 months though it was an internship, and the one before that 9 months internship. My current job is permanent as was my last.

    Not really, at the moment.

I wish there was more balance with the people I have to engage with on a daily basis - those being primarily fusty, bitter old spinsters that lose their sh%t at a moment's inconvenience for the smallest thing. It's becoming quite untenable and such a very odd circumstance for me, just watching these loons wandering about the place seeking out any sliver of attention when the urge takes them. On a good day this oddity provides some mirth but generally it's tough to entertain feeble, hate-filled minds every week.

My boss is weak and a snivelling sycophant, afraid of his own shadow, fearful to burden the overlords upstairs to be able to run our section in a fair and reasonable manner. His permanent and magnified condition of failing and servility is apparent throughout the firm thus giving any odious cretin carte blanche to act the bastard without reproach. It's all very tiring.

    This.

Feeling respected makes a huge difference. Luckily I feel that from my line manager. I remember once chatting to her and mentioning that I was coming down with a cold and was quite busy, she told me that if I felt like I needed a day to head it off to take one no problem. I didn't in the end but knowing that she trusted me enough to offer it and that I wouldn't have to face a big ordeal calling in sick (as I had in previous jobs!) made me feel better by itself! This year she's been on leave for stress due to ridiculous pressure from the powers above. Not a nice atmosphere.

I like my work but have one or two work colleagues that are soul destroying to deal with. It's like they hate everything and everyone. Working with them is unavoidable so I find lately that I simply endure. Given that so much of my life is devoted to work this is a situation that is fast becoming intolerable. My falling down moment could be imminent :pac:

I don't have a job, but I will tell you about my last one as I feel its relevant.
I was a Duty Manager in a Dublin hotel, which was family owned.
The family had a policy of employing Romanian housekeeping staff, and Brazilian reception staff. It soon became apparent why.
They were desperate for work, and had no knowledge of the Working Time Directive or their legal rights to rest periods, or maximum working hours.
The rosters I was ordered to make up were illegal, and I refused to do so; on the basis that they breached the Working Time Directive, and the hours the staff were being forced to work were making them sick and fatigued. Needless to say this didn't go down well with the hotel owner, after I had emailed a copy of the WTD to every member of staff to familiarise themselves with their rights. My card was marked after that.
The day I snapped was when I came on my shift and saw a heavily pregnant receptionist standing behind the desk with no stool to sit on. I asked her how long she had been like that, and when I found out she had been working 6 hours straight without a rest; that broke me.
I sent her on an hours break then marched straight into the General Managers office to have it out with her. I let her have it, and was fired on the spot for gross misconduct.
3 months later and my unfair dismissal hearing came up at the Labour Relations Commission. I produced the illegal rosters I was forced to make, and their inspector confirmed the working hours didn't match the staff's pay slips hours.
They were fined, and order to comply with the WTD. I received a small amount of compensation for my loss of earnings.
When I look back now, it still upsets me to think of how those workers were abused, and taken advantage of; not knowing their rights.
Sometimes a man can't stand his job and either has to jack it in, or get the sack to be free.
I just couldn't turn a blind eye to it like the other Duty Managers that had gone before me.

Been working in my current job for 8 years but I handed in my notice last week. No real reason just it didn't really excite me anymore and I wanted to go travelling for a while. I had been saving for a rainy day so I bought a campervan and will head off after xmas. Don't care about having a gap in my CV, if I spent my whole life worrying about my CV I'd never do anything fun.

I veer from loving it to hating it. The work itself I love - very interesting and varied, but there's a lot of stuff going with it that can ruin it at times (stress, politics, money not being great).

My joy is ok - I can not say it fills me with excitement in the morning - but I am challanged by it and kept busy and occupied - and I never get up feeling "Oh no not again".

But the hours and pay are fixed at just around where I need them to be to allow me to indulge the things in my life that I do love. I might be able to get more pay - or less hours with less flexibility and so forth - or that I enjoy even more than the one I am in - but I would not really benefit from that - as it would eat into what I want to do with the rest of my time. I _like_ being able to do 12 hours on a monday and tuesday at a whim - or work over the weekend - and then simply take a day off during the week in flexi time. It allows me to do with my life what I want to do - as and when I want to.

Was in my last job ten years, best job ever, always had the same female boss, who turned up one day in a sh1t mood. Usually I would agree with her, anything for an easy life huh, but this day I decided to be honest. She refused to talk to me for 2 weeks an when I called her on it she said all was ok. I then was shown an email she wrote to the boss about me, I found another job and left, she never knew I knew and I really wanted to leave a copy of the email so she would know, but I got thought to go out with dignity. She pretended all was well & bought me a designer handbag as leaving gift.

The new job did not work out but 7 months into a completely different area I love love love going to work.

The odd thing bugs me, but it's a great feeling when you enjoy what you do.
