    Hi Guys,
Hoping somebody here can give me some idea as to whats the best treatment and how long its going to be before i can get back to running again (football) with a slight tear in my achillies tendon. Has being sore for about six months before, and now its even sore to walk and thats after five weeks with no running. I had an MRI scan and few days ago and thats shown a slight tear. My doctor got the report and wants me to see a specialist, but its going to be a few weeks before i can get to see him.

I'd go see a good physio. Should be able to see one within a week, I'd have thought

Do you think a physio would be able to treat a tear, that would be great i would much rather go that route if i could. Was seeing our club physio and didnt think he was doing much for me, just told me to rest. Given that i think he is not very experienced.

Skippy don't tear it. I'd rather break a leg.

Rest it within reason until you get to see a good physio or the specialist.

Don't mess about with something like the achilles.

You can wait until the specialist. Even if itis a few weeks away, it'd be ill advised to do anything in the meantime anyway

I had a relatively serious tear, didn't treat it properly, had to give up after nearly a year and start again. Dry needled out a load of scar tissue, gradually built it back. I would say a good physio will be a help but don't mess with it, it will only end in tears (see what i did there?:D)

    Thanks guys.
Think i might look up a good physio first and take it from there. Going to see a specialist dose not come cheap, spent 350 on two MRIs

    Where are you based?

You might get some names of physios to go to.

I guillotined my tendon (cut through it with glass) in an accident June 2013. It's still not right :( sometimes they can grow back too much and you get a bulge and you need a small procedure to get the excess removed. A physio or doctor might show you how to wrap your ankle up in a fabric bandage in a figure of 8 to support the tendon. You might have to get a boot for a few weeks of its very bad. Being honest, now I can walk, run and cycle no problem, but I do get tired easier than before, and Id be afraid to kick a ball now! It's a horrible sensation and pain. If you havnt been to see your gp I would do that soon!

You will need to do eccentric exersise to strengthen it. Go to a good physio asao & they should give a plan to help strengthen it.

Have being to see my gp, it was he who sent me for scan. What i havent told ye is that it has being an ongoing problem maybe a year or so. Got two steriod injections which helped me train and play with almost no pain. Last one has worn off now and cant get any more. So its time to get it sorted.
