A few bad apples are souring thing's for everyone. I see a big rise in no shooting or hunting on this land this year. Soon we will have no land to shoot on if something is'nt done now. Here in my gun club lands i am a member of two clubs we have the same few twats going around guns out windows or 4 or 5 in a field' ( we have no more then 3 in a field rule for safety ) hunting fields with sheep in them. shooting where the club have no shooting signs. And these lads are in no club and have on insurance. So now the farmers are putting a blanket ban on everyone because of these bad apples.

Same problem all over i think, happening down here in the south as well, another problem we have here is the snipe shooters, walking around big green fields firing at every snipe that gets up, was talking to a local farmer the other day who is thinking of preserving his land because of them, he said they were hunting his place for snipe last weekend and between two fellas fired over 30 shots in 2 hours, joke... Sooner they bring in a bag limit for snipe the better imo...

    Bag limit on everything mate.
Good thing about snipe though is they are tricky little buggers to hit being how fast they are so I wouldn't say 30 shots connected. Hopefully just a small percentage

Its not really about how many connected but the landowner having to listen to 30 plus shots on his land in 2 hours thinking whether its a Vietnam warzone down the back of his house!!

sorry to say but bag limit will make no difference to them, as they will not obey them anyway.

My brother in law had his quad stolen three weeks ago, some lads were seeing in the area lamping that very night , he said they tipped some people off, he now has put up no hunting shooting and trespassing signs up on his lands and watches all movement now, he is paranoid about people on his lands

That's a f***** joke, they are some sports men, there's no way a man ( besides the fact we have a game nite) would leave a pheasant in a field, and if he did he wouldn't be in a club or shooting that ground again up my way. That's a disgrace to the sport

fair idea who did it, they wouldn't be club men, just pricks who will shoot a cock for table then shoot rest of the day just to shoot a few birds then let them there

same thing around here. dogs being hunted in the same fields as cattle, fences broken down and cattle chased into other farms. then the wrong lads got blamed. and the ones that did the damage weren't even from the area. but were chased out of everywhere in their own townlands. same lads will be in the pub boasting about all they have shot and what great dogs they have.
any strange car/jeep seen in our area now is reported for acting suspiciously in the area, let the garda sort it out.

But will the Garda sort it out?
Will they come out if they're called

if a garda has a word with these people they wont want to be spoke to again as they could lose there guns for shooting of road or out of jeep

these scum are a disgrace to our sport....i have neighbours/friends hounding me for pheasants every weekend...surely they could have brought them to someone that would appreciate em

Found 2 pheasants this week lying along ditch dog brought one of them over to me both had breasts removed, seen it on gun club video last year standing on the wings and pulling legs to remove breasts makes for light carrying but its nice to admire the bag at the end of the day not looking at a load of raw flesh.

I think it the fact their so visible anyone passing will know their there and that draws lads.

People invest time and money in rearing and protectin them so it is frustrating to put it mildly when everyone turns up to shot them.

That's one side of the story.

The other side is where a few lads get together
and stock an area but they're cosy party doesn't invite the other lads that shoot the ground to participate then they get thick when they show up to shoot like they always have.

This has happened to me on my uncles land.

So I can see both sides.

Problem is it is really the only game bird we have in this country that you can go out and hunt with a dog,it is the reason that gun clubs were set up without the pheasant I would say most gun clubs would disappear.

    So true.

I love it when lads disparagingly use the term "Wild West."

Some of the antics I have witnessed in Ireland are closer to the likes of Somalian technicals than the Wild West.

Lads hanging out car windows, sunroofs, and pick up trucks with lights and guns.

So many red, white, and orange lights scanning a field that if I had some one lay down a bass-line, I could charge admission to a disco!

    Crazy.

    Enforcement is needed.

Think about the storm Irish firearm owners are facing right now. Imagine what that storm is going to be like if someone gets hurt by some reckless idiot.

Also, there may be a few bad apples. But, there are even more bad habits out there.

    What about the woodcock .

Your right about the woodcock, but it will not cause the mayhem that the pheasant causes with greed, poaching and general trouble.

Was driving up to the Midlands yesterday afternoon and coming in along the bog road from the turn off before Blueball ,I came across a couple of lads and a half dozen dogs out for a days hunting, after almost hitting one of their dopey dogs who decided to walk out in front of me I just stopped to make sure the dog was ok ,which he was.No problem, grand have a good day now..However 30 meters up the road on the road there is a freshly shot crow lying on the road.:(
Fine crows or vermin and get shot..But FFS lads,if you shoot it at least have the decency to chuck it into the ditch or over the hedge where no one of a less sensitive nature will spot it.Had I been an anti,i could have made utter hay out of this incident as it wouldnt require Sherlock Holmes to figure out the connection here or even imply who the guilty party was.
We really are somtimes our own worst enemies.

Today I came across 4 hooves from what was possibly big stag I've seen about in this area
Not even dumped in a ditch. Just left in open field with hair and blood around. At least lads could ditch it.
Seems it's too much effort now
