We only have a small plastic Christmas tree in our apartment. We never took it down throughout the year, only "decommissioned" it by turning the lights off. I turned them on again the other night when I couldn't sleep and was resting on the couch feeling miserable. I'll say they'll get their official turning on December 1st.

I've got two sets of electric-candles sitting in my hall, I meant to move them last January, but there they sit!

Only came to mind now that I read this thread :)

    Never took them down...

I love Christmas decorations, seeing as it is just me this year in the run up I was thinking about not bothering. But **** it it wouldn't be fair to leave the best dressed tree on the street out so I will put it up about the 12th! :D

December 8th. Lights get switched on at 6pm :)

Probably weekend of the 12th/13th December. Time enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 938 ✭✭✭Ice Storm

II'll probably be too lazy to bother with decorations this year as I live alone and don't own any.

If I do put them up, it'll be well into December but decorations put up from 1st December are ok by me.

There is a business near me that had tacky flashing lights on as soon as Halloween was over!

My tree is up and decorated, the presents are wrapped under the tree, the "fireplace" (storage heater that I don't use) is decorated with fairy lights and Christmas statues and candles, and my wreath with LED lights is on the door :):D

I never took them down in June for half-christmas so I might as well leave them up for the few weeks that's in it now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,658 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Probably the 1st December as the OH wants them up early. I'd prefer the weekend after, it may come to that, but most likely not!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,130 ✭✭✭mel.b

It would be the 1st Dec, but I'm heading to Oz on the 4th Dec for the month so this year I won't be putting any up.

    First Friday of December.

We put them up on the day of the Toy Show with the kids helping, we also treat them to a take away and crash for the night watching the late late.

    About a week before 25/12

Fookin hate the early adopters as really, it's just being greedy hogging all the 'cheer' early.

Xmas lights etc in November is pathetic.

Usually on or after December 8th but I think we will put them up earlier this year, they really add to the cosiness of our sitting room so I'm itching to get the tree up.

In Ireland I think so although Christmas time starts on the beginning of the new church year Advent Sunday which usually falls around the beginning of December.

Myself and my girlfriend have agreed on the first of December.

I'll put up my small Christmas tree in my bedroom on the 1st of December. The big Christmas tree and decorations will be going up on the 8th.

Up first weekend in December and down first weekend in January.

I love Christmas tho, and the house feels very cosy when all the lights and tree are up. I don't understand people who complain about people putting their decorations up in November or whenever. What's the big deal?

The 8th of December is always the day the Christmas tree goes up at home. I won't bother putting up anything where I'm renting as I'll head up home for over two weeks from before Christmas until the new year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,593 ✭✭✭DoozerT6

I never put up decorations. I live alone, have no children and will be at home with the folks over Christmas anyway. I'd feel silly decorating the place when it's just myself here and I don't give a fook about tinsel and all that ****e.

    Humbug, anyone? Mint humbug? :D

Christmas eve. I'll be taking them down St Stephen's day. Proper order.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,106 ✭✭✭catallus

If only we could adorn our hearts and minds with the true spirit of Christmas as readily as we bedeck our homes with the embellishments of tinsel and lights! We are far from God indeed when we must fill the vacuum of our souls with the glitter of consumerism!

Same here,as much as I love them once Christmas day is over I just want them back in the attic.

I'd say I'll have them up by the start of December this year. I know it's early but I live with my best friend, this will be our third Christmas in our apartment together and our last. We both absolutely adore Christmas and have had so much fun the last two years decorating our little apartment as tackily as possible!

She was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma a few months ago and is going through chemo at the moment. She had expected to have to move back to her parents a few months ago but she's doing well and is still here with me! However I'd say she'll be back home with them as soon as Christmas is done (or maybe even before) so I want to make the most of the end of our happy co-habiting :D

Is it just me ...but when I put the decorations up I feel the need to have a beer while I admire my work.

Anytime from December seems to be the norm with most people. Seen a few tho over the years putting them up in the start of November. No harm I guess. Getting into the spirit early.

Fair play to ye. I hope that your friend gets to spend many, many more happy and healthy Christmases with her loved ones.

I'm going away to 'Murica on Dec 15th. I'll will be gone until the New Year, so am not gonna bother with the whole tree malarkey. Will probably hang a few lights & decorations on the windows, fireplace & what not, so I don't feel like a total Scrooge. But the pressure of not having to "do" all the decorating, and find the "perfect" tree, is bloody brilliant.

For those of you that live and alone and don't see the point of decorating your house, consider throwing a tree decorating party. You provide the food and booze (beer and pizza generally goes down a treat) while others do all the hard labour & argue about the perfect placement of tinsel. It's a great way to have a bit of Xmas craic & get yourself a decorated gaff with minimal effort, without feeling overly self conscious about being by your self at Xmas.

I do agree if you plan on spending Christmas away theres no point putting up decorations.
