If all players had to return to their parent club

Imagine if FIFA said that all players can only play for the club they started their senior professional careers with. Bale returns to Southhampton, Messi stays at Barcelona, Gotze returns to Dortmund, and so on.

Who would have the best team in England, in your opinion? In Europe? The world?

    Discuss.

Edit. To be clear. A player making his debut while on loan doesn't count. The club that owned him counts here. For whom did he make his senior pro debut for, with tha club owning his contract, etc.

Sepp Blatter as Herod ? I'm sure that there are plenty who can see the likeness!

You'd have to imagine Barcelona, Bayern would also probably have a decent shout. But at what age are we determining parent club?

That's the thing need to know what age cut off point is. Messis parent club could really be Newells in Argentina depending on the cut off point.

Dutch clubs would likely do quite well out of this.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

League of Ireland teams would also do well.

What about the opposite, who would have the worst team?

Chelsea or City without much thought put into that answer

Sporting Lisbon would probably be in good shape, but yeah, basically the answer is Barcelona.

Coleman would be winning medals with Sligo Rovers.

What if a player had their first senior appearance while on loan?

What if a player had their first senior appearance while on loan?

Yeah. Let's just keep it to the club they are contracted to, at that time.

southampton would be v strong..lallana, walcott, bale, oxlade chamberlain, shaw, chambers, nathan dyer

Of the English clubs, I guess Southampton would win the league every year? Bale, Walcott, Lallana, Shaw, Oxlade Chamberlain, Chambers. Of all the players currently on the England squad, the largest contingency of any academy would be there's.

Everton would be up there as well.

TBF nothing, United have an absolute raft of ex-players still playing at a very high level, they would do very well in a scenario like this.

Did the likes of Shawcross make their senior debuts at United?

    Recent Southampton graduates. Notable.

    Gareth Bale
    Leon Best
    Wayne Bridge
    Calum Chambers
    Adam Lallana
    Ox
    Luke Shaw
    Theo Walcott

That's impressive for a small club.

It would be United, think of the amount of ex players they'd have back, they'd have Paul Pogba!

It is not so simple as that. Both UEFA and the Premier League apply a test of home-grown to players so that they have to have spent three years between the ages of 16 and 21 at the club.

Players like Walcott and the OX are Arsenal's using that criteria, not Southampton's. Fabregas is Arsenal too.

All Premier League teams would weaken because by playing at a higher level, they loan players out to lower levels to make their first-team debut.

Ashley Cole made one appearance for Arsenal before he went on loan, but if he hadn't, his 14 appearances in three months for Crystal Palace would have made him their player even though he spent little time with them under the OP's criteria.

Read the thread. We dealt with loans. I just edited the op, on this.

Plus, this is a thought exercise. Allow wiggle room for nitty points.

Who? Pogba, Pique, Rossi, Welbeck, Morrison, Fryers, Shawcross, Gibson, O'Shea? Wouldn't really set the world alight tbf.

Everton or Southampton would most likely be in the best shape. Leeds and Crewe would benefit most from it though I'd think. West Ham would have five years ago.

You'd probably find a lot of similarities to the early - mid seventies in terms of which clubs dominate Domestic leagues and win European Trophies.

Important to bear in mind that City's incredible investment levels in their academy and youth development wouldn't disappear overnight. They would likely be significant players in years to come.

ManUtd would be among favorites to win the league.

All these players played their first professional game for either ManUtd or other team when contracted with ManUtd
    Robert Zeiler

    Rafael Pique Shawcorss/Evans Fabio/Fryers

    Pogba Cleverley/Fletcher

    Januzaj Rossi Brady

    Welbeck

With players like Gibson, Rochardson, OShea, Brown, Drinkwater, De Laet, Campbell, Morrison on the bench.

That really doesn't sound like a team that would conquer all that lay before it

Crewe Alexandra would defo be in the Champions league every year

    Rob Jones
    Seth Johnson
    Danny Murphy
    John Pearson
    David Platt
    Geoff Thomas

    to name a few

The original poster commented that United would be right up there for being one of the worst teams in this scenario, you might not call it the greatest team of all time but the idea that they would be one of the worst team is clearly not true.

Yeah because I said this team would beat whatever is put infront of them isn't it.

Go on and make a miles better team in PL.

The standard of most of the teams in the premier league would drop quite badly in fairness

Maybe not but who exactly would they going to be up against?
There's not going to be any team that looks all conquering.

Once again, who said they would? The original claim was that United would be right up there as the worst team in this scenario.. Clearly they would not be anything like the worst team, in fact they can make a pretty good stab at being one of the best.

Stop comparing that team to the current Chelsea/Barca/City teams, compare them to the Chelsea/Barca/City teams they would have under the same constraint.

Made his professional debut for Antwerp when he was still ManUtd player.

Try Madrid, Dortmund and any other top teams except Barca and Bayern. You are underestimating how quality drops for all teams when this criteria is set.

He was sent to Antwerp first, he made his professional debut when he was United player. If we ignore that debut for Stoke when he was still United player means he will be counted for ManUtd as per OP.
