I remember eating that rock bun,
The result of it was not much fun.

There is a serious side to this issue though - whenever he applies for a job in future, they will ask him about this incident, possibly adding "Woo hoo....everyone knows it."

It sounds like they were just looking for an opportunity to sack the guy really. I'm guessing there's more to the story than a couple of stolen jam tarts.
Mr Moran told the tribunal that he was aware that he was not allowed to eat food while working but he had done so so many times.

"If this is the first time you've done this Elton, we'll let you off with a warning."

"Nah, sure we do this all the time, what's the harm?"

Clearly not the sharpest tool in the box, this guy.

The picture in that article is clearly of a mince pie, not a jam tart! ;)

Companies who produce perishable foods like Keelings are under pretty strict guidelines as to how the food is handled and how staff operate around the food. Finding out that staff members are sticking their mucky paws into packets that are due to be shipped to consumers could easily lead to a fine or sanctions from the FSAI, so I'm sure they have very strict and clear guidelines about what staff can and can't do around the food, packaged or otherwise.

I worked in a supermarket and anyone who had any involvement near food (e.g. the bakers) weren't allowed to consume any food, water, etc in the food prep areas. If they wanted a drink of water, it was safety gear off, wash hands, go upstairs to the canteen, get some water, back down to the area, gear on, wash hands.
Funnily enough even the girls who worked in the canteen making the food for the staff had to leave the canteen, go into the locker room, wash their hands and come back into the canteen before they could have their lunch.

Breaching these rules was pretty much an instantly sackable offence.

They asked him to apologise but sorry seems to be the hardest word.
